I don't understand how people who put those large tires but don't enhance the components too handle the larger tires expect the regular components too handle it.

I'm impressed you brought it back from drive train carnage on the costumers budget .
Seeing this ranger makes me miss the 2001 ranger I had. It rusted out before the drivetrain failed on it at 525k miles 3yrs ago.
It's so nice to see Wife Unit cheerfully step in to help you when you need it. She is definitely a keeper!
Ray and Mrs. Ray (when he lets you on that is) I just wanted to say thank you for the entertainment that you provide through your channel. I’m floating in and out of hospital at the moment and any spare time I have is usually in a waiting room. BUT, any spare time I have at home…..it’s seek out Ray and “ The Spousal Unit “ for some r&r. Thanks guys, I really love your show. Sincerely, Rod

When everything is a hammer 😂😂😂 the only sad thing is that I can't help but feel that it won't be long before another wheel / axle lets go. And no Ray, not trying to take a cheap shot at you, I 100% understand commercial realities. If the owner of the vehicle doesn't want to do a full rebuild then whatever happens next is ultimately on them.
@mtebaldi1

Never a budget repair on safety. That said Ray knows what he's doing.
@frazzledude
11 ай бұрын
Being cheap and on a tight budget is usually much more expensive than spending the money to do it right the first time. For example, the owner of this truck is probably not going to spend the money for a front wheel alignment. Those tires already need to be replaced, but if he doesn't do the alignment, he will just spend a lot more money on tires. It costs more up front to do a complete and thorough job, but that is what credit cards are for.
@hot_wheelz
11 ай бұрын
@@frazzledude yep being cheap does cost more in the long run but if things are tight enough that it's a choice between keeping a roof over your head, clothes on your back, food on the table and the keeping the lights on then I also understand that from a practical standpoint sometimes people simply have to do what they have to do and try to ride out the rough patches until things improve. I am not about to give the owner of this vehicle a hard time for needing to make difficult decisions because we don't know their situation and circumstances. It's easy to sit in a glass house throwing stones, criticising others but honestly if you haven't walked a mile in the guys shoes then you've got little business telling them how they ought to live their life. One thing about Ray that I appreciate is that he understands such realities, and he does his best to make the vehicle as safe as possible given the available budget knowing that if he doesn't do the job then someone else will only likely in a far less safe manner.

Wow 😳 that's a lot of pressure on that suspension,no wonder it basically ate it's self up😅, it's nice of you at least trying to help them, since their on a budget, and I get to learn as well
That lift contributed to extra stress on the front wheel bearings. The angle of the CV joint is a giveaway.

its a typical thing, people are retarded, they want a lift kit so their truck feels like driving a Semi, but then expect all the OEM part to magically adapt and last, that CV will gone year or earlier, taking the hub in the process and likely fucking the shims in the diff

I wonder how many really nice trucks have been dealt the same hand as this one by their wannabe Grave Digger owners. Very few things look as ridiculous and are as useless as lifted pick-up trucks. Every one of them has this same front suspension failure waiting to happen, it's only a matter of time. Oh well, whatever floats your boat I guess.
"The owner is aware they are lacking in the nut department" 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah... We figured on the owner's lack of nuts problem when we saw the what appears to be purple glitter painted grill. 😂
Oh I can feel my old instructor spinning in his grave. Using old brake pads with new brake discs (rotors, in the US, right?) is apparently an unforgivable offence. Never understood why and I’ve done it under protest, sometimes, without any problems. It’s good to see another professional do it, probably also under protest, given the age of the truck and the extensive parts list. Sometimes you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do.
@duncancremin1708

Yup. A few minutes later, he clarified exactly that.
@theundergroundlairofthesqu9261

In the US, rotor or disc. In theory, you want brand new machined metal and brand new pad to get to know each other, but I'm not the only one here to have done a "pad slap" here and there, I'm sure. I'm not sure, however, what's so 'orrible about used pads on new rotors. Bedding pads, as I understand it, is about breaking in the rotor surface/depositing the nice layer of brake pad on them. Of course, a used pad may not be square/level/evenly worn, too.
No wonder he couldn’t hear or feel his wheel falling off lol 😂

Good morning Ray, I knew you would get that truck back on the road again! You did a fantastic job with what you had to work with. The most important things are that first it's safe, you got it done within a tight budget and I'm sure the owner is a happy camper 💯 It's always nice to see the wife unit in action. Hope y'all have a great day and stay cool 💯🇺🇸✌️

Up here in canada that backing plate wouldn’t be a problem ,it would have long retuned to where it came from!
You always do what is best for the customer. Sometimes it is replacing everything and sometimes it is doing bare necessities!
"when all you have is a hammer, everything begins to look like nails" AvE
It's good you're replacing the whole caliper since the force that bent the bracket most likely damaged the piston seals. That happened with my 2018 Mazda 3, the wheel came off because the mechanic forgot to tighten the lug nuts. We had to replace the wheel, the fender and the lower control arm knuckle. A month later we noticed the caliper was leaking brake fluid so we had to get that replaced as well. Luckily, it was all covered by the garage's insurance.

if the wheel come off ( most responsible places ) you looking at bearing hub, calliper, axle shaft and joints, i would pop the diff and look play in the carrier/ spider gears too...now buddy got his own shop, a helper kid, he just starting, so he wont turn down a job even though he knows he customer needs more, im assuming the laws in florida are pretty permissible
Best visual of the Carolina Squat ever!
That backing plate looks like its mom had a one night stand with Freddy Krueger...
Ray there is a lot of stress on on the ball joints the axle and he brakes. This truck wasn’t meant for really big tires so get ready to do the other side,get ready. Have a good day
I love how much of a dorky guy you are. I assume its not just a show you put on for the videos, it comes off as your natural personality. I bet you're a lot of fun to hang out and chill with.

In todays world when money and customer dictate repair, probably better off sending the job down the road. Way more trouble on the horizon then what you make on the job.
The "Carolina Squat" clip at 16:11 was fuckin mint lololol!!!
The protection ring is a bolt keeper. Ideally you slide it up the shaft, insert the bolts, then pull the protection ring back in position.
I like that there is a person that will do work (economically)!!! Much love from the tip of the mitten state!!!
Glasses lady is wayyy less scary and nicer when not pointing at couch😎
Shop class in 1970, first class consisted of watching a movie. "The ABC'S OF HAND TOOLS", with the main character was named "PRIMITIVE PETE". The main topic was the dangers of using your tools incorrectly! Ray must have seen the same movie, everything is a hammer and a pry bar. Nice work Ray!
it's nice to see you helping the owner out, agree rotors and pads should be changed in pairs, but you really are trying to keep the cost down :)
The speakers are used to hide all the noises that truck makes 😂
The "dragster dog" at 16:13 is hilarious!
This Ferd is gonna be back. Hopefully before the bearings on the other side let go.
Morning Ray. Everything is a hammer 🔨😆. Those speakers have a lot of Bark.

_"When your only tool is a hammer, everything looks like a nail."_
Those swaybar end links should really be upgraded to solid bushings from those cheap plastic especially with all of the extra weight from the tires. You could reuse the one of the studs from the busted rotor?
@KenzertYT

The sway bar in these trucks does barely anything. This is an identical setup to the front IFS for the Explorers. It helps but most people take it off entirely if they take their trucks offroad.
I wonder if the extra loud exhaust, plus extra power stero were louder than the failing wheel bearing? a case of more is less.

Hey Ray, great video. Glad you coild get all those parts for it. Great work. Cheers!

On parts you can't find at a parts store you can find them at a salvage yard. Things like those bearing bolts, seal retainer, dust cover and such. If you have a you pull it yard it may take pulling the parts you are after to find good parts. Things like bolts sometimes don't come out as usable. You might to want picking up extra bolts and such just to keep on hand. There are other things that can be handy to keep around. Things like relays, lug nuts are things I collect when at the yard. They don't cost much and can save you a lot of time searching for them when you need it.
What we learn from Ray is no nuts is a bad thing, gotta have ALL ya nuts.
That could be a nie little truck if the owner is willing to get the maintenance done. You an outstanding job as always Ray.
