Thanks for the shout out guys and great episode as always. Apart from moisture Fridge Friend also absorbs ethylene gas (thus extended the life of fresh produce by up to 169%) plus airborne bacteria, mould and odours 🙂

Great video, thank you both for taking the time. I use a vacuum sealer as well, so MY TIP is to prepare meals before you seal them i.e. cooked spaghetti bolognese, cooked curry dishes, marinated uncooked chicken thighs etc so you don't have to take all ingredients with you. The meals are quick and easy to reheat with minimal clean up. I hadn't thought about dehydrated vegetables, will look into them. Would definitely be a space and weight saver. Also the popping corn tip is a great one. Travel safe.

Hey Simon & Liz. I reckon freezing a few precooked meals e.g. spaghetti bolognaise, stews and soups before you leave home and storing them flat in the vacuum sealed bags. Sure, they take up valuable fridge/freezer space but all your meat & veg are already included and ready to go once defrosted and heated. Pre-made meals such as the bolognaise can also double up as savoury mince jaffles too. Can also make your own bread/damper rather than getting fresh bread too 🤘

We’ve been travelling Aus for 43 months (not all in a row! -haha) but you can always pick up something new. Thanks for your great tips. One thing I do is make my own butter chicken spice mix which I use specifically when we’re going through quarantine controls and all the veg has to get cooked or get thrown out. Everything gets added to some chicken and my spice mix for the most delicious “border control butter chicken” ever. It either gets frozen then or eaten over the next few days.

@@carladalton6220 Spice mix: 2 teaspoons garam masala 1 teaspoon ground cardamom 1 teaspoon ground coriander 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cumin ½ teaspoon paprika 2 pinchs cayenne pepper (optional) 1 teaspoon ground turmeric plus some salt. That’s enough for 700g chicken thigh fillets. I usually treble or quadruple the spice mix before I leave home, then very simple to make the butter chicken. Enjoy.

When I get to a c/park, I grocery shop, and pre-cook (in my pressure cooker) all of the food (make stews, casseroles, soups, cook rice, mash potatoes). Like you I take the air out of everything, and I then vac seal all of my cooked meals (as single meals), stack flat in the freezer. I freeze milk, plus I use powered milk for drinking & cooking as well. Sustagen (no flavour), dried soup mixes, chick peas - these add protein to my foods. They stack small too. I use oats almost everywhere, they're so versatile. Then I go off-grid once I've resupplied. Thanks your the hints about that Fridge Friend. My nearly dead veges always get made into soups!

Good job guys. We live on the road and like to do a big monthly shop at Woollies to get frequent flyer points, so stock up on things that are on sale, especially half price, like our almond milk (I’ll buy a box full). (We don’t have really tight weight restrictions). (Btw, we are just a tad off enough points for 2 x ‘Round the World’ tickets in Business Class, so well worth it), We buy bulk meat and pack like you do, make our own coleslaw, have plenty of wraps, use fresh and salad stuff first and cook double batches to freeze in chinese takeaway containers for quick meals. Quick cook rice sachets are great and can make a quick fried rice. We’re all electric too and have plenty of batteries/solar. Don’t have a thermomix but have an air fryer oven, which is invaluable. Makes great rotisserie roasts - the best crackling ever. Love your work. Enjoy!

Liz I have found a lot of fruit & Veg might store out of fridge in cooler climates but in hot areas or items sometimes purchased in remote locations they will not. Found out the hard way with mushy smelly greens & spuds, so be careful & keep that in mind too. Try to buy local fresh if you can stuff that has to travel to shops can sometimes be old before it gets to store.

As always an episode full of simple great ideas. We don’t travel full time but do some extended trips. My thought is this. While at home we do a lot of pre trip cooking, savoury mince and rice ( mince is easy to pack and store) and freeze the mince or what ever. Vacuumed packing is something we didn’t even think about, so thanks for another good tip. Will you do an episode on spare bits and pieces to carry for the van as opposed to car parts. Another couple with a dog had issues with water tanks and no bits. All sorted after a drive to somewhere not planned. Glenn in Bunbury.

There are some great tips there team. We "flat pack" as much food as we can. Dehydrated veges are fine & weigh next to nothing. We'll pass on the cask wine though. Thanks guys. 😊

Great series and great tips guys. Interested about the powdered milk… do you make up a litre or so and keep in fridge, or just make enough for whatever you need right then?

Our pleasure! We're not 100% sure cause we bought them 2nd hand. We had a quick look at the website, and we reckon they're the medium ones. We have 1 tall and 2 small. 👌

I noticed you have a portable twin induction cooker, any power problems using both at the same time? Titanium have stopped installing induction cook tops and now only supply portable units.
