Hi there :) We're Marc & Allys, a couple who left the UK in 2021 to search of somewhere we could build a homestead. This led us to one of Portugal's beautiful natural parks.
Self-sufficiency is important to us, whilst we're not off grid, we're keen to rely less and less on external systems. Follow us as we take on many things for the first time - learning as we go. DIY, Gardening, Growing our own food, Homestead'ing, Studying our land, Learning about permaculture and other farming techniques. We also plan to regenerate our abandoned land and create a thriving ecosystem - which isn't an easy task given we're in Portugal's hottest region (Alentejo!)

A very useful device, that Jackery. Something very worth having on your property. just amazing how many batteries that you plugged in at one point. So with the solar panels (and a good splash of sunshine) there's only a short list of jobs that you actually can't do. Well in, Mark and Alice. Keep working and we'll keep watching and learning. Marc's drive to get it all done is simply astounding and admirable. And if you've ever owned land, you know it never stops. The amount of work completed on solar batteries is also astounding. No noisy generators burning gas! What a concept! Looking forward to Summer. Best wishes.
I love the idea of having a solar battery bank. If only we had the sun in the UK these days to power it. It's just rained non stop for a week, again 🙄

Creating walking pathways. Use the brush cutter on fence lines and around trees. Speed up the job with a mower or tractor/mower. Continue to thin out fire hazard areas. Making more space for fire resistant trees like oak, olives, rubber.
