Off Grid Cabin Additions (Bedroom) | Ep. 3 | Building 2x8 Logs, Dinner with My Wife

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Finally got back to the cabin after a month away. The farm has been busy with new additions and my kid’s sports schedules are ramping up.
Was able to get a couple more courses of logs done plus have dinner with my wife at the cabin.

Showing a baby goat balancing on it's mother back and then cutting to a sheep getting a feed bucket stuck on it's head is a pretty good summary on sheep and goats.

Howdy, I'm Off grid In Kentucky. The past storm took down over 7 trees on the property. Uprooted them. A lot of problems happen from that storm. We are all Working together to get the trees cut up cleaned up and firewood Stacked. It only takes one storm to Rec-havic

Nice to see a new video glad to hear all is well and changes sometimes are a good thing. Life goes by so fast and we don't even realize it until one day we wake up and say to self: "it's time to change priorities", Even small changes can make a huge difference and we can get grounded again and even change our way of thinking. We only go through this life once and by golly do what you love and others around us as well. God has blessed you with a wonderful life, family and even special Gifts of building your cabin. Thank you for this video and the cabin is beautiful.

For the wall "logs," it would be efficient to take stock of how many of each variation is needed. Then, in a flat area, lay out all the boards and put them together as such. It might be more exact, and there'd be less picking up and putting down of various tools. That way, when it comes to building, it'd just be playing with legos.

  • @TheOffGridExperience

    @TheOffGridExperience

We use a cast iron skillet that has been passed down from my great grandmother. She died in 1988 at the age of 94. When using a cast iron skillet, some of the iron leaches into the food, which in small amounts is good for your body.

Here's some synchronicity for you. I was just watching another channel I follow Martijn Doorland who is restoring a stone cabin in the Italian Alps and he just suffered a tremendous storm with devastation on his site. He's spent the last week restoring things. Adversity strikes but we keep a stiff upper lip and move on. Loved the baby sheep and goats. We used to keep goats and they were terrible brats. My Dad would come in for a break and they would try to turn the door knob so they could come in too. They were up on our cars and eating my Mom's precious flowers. lol

Storms are always a concern where trees are, unfortunately. Goats are fun animals but pains in the ....haha.

I agree! Sheep are so much easier to raise! They look at fences like it a safe zone. Coated look at a fence as a challenge to conquer!

Love your cabin. One of the most interesting builds on KZread. I haven't heard you mention you children before. I'm sure for good reasons. Do they ever visit the cabin. Will they be enjoying the cabin in the future? Thanks for sharing your journey.

That little lady needs to learn how exceptional her father is! If my dad did you what are doing I would think he walked on water and hung the moon. My dad is great, but he ain’t THIS great. I hope your other kids really appreciate your talent and work-ethic.

To hoist stuff try a self adjusting friction hitch. A Schwabish(there is another c in there somewhere) or a Distel hitch. Either of these knots will hold your load while you maneuver it and they are infinitely adjustable.

Great videos, thanks for all the hard work putting the content on this channel. I'm curious how you would compare your method to the tongue-and-groove d-logs you can buy.

Thanks for watching 👍 Not really sure on the comparison only that this method should be a bit less expensive.

Looking good. I believe I would have knocked together a couple of sawhorses to build those “logs” more at waist level. That’s a lot of bending over, at least for me. Also a couple of jigs to get the spacing the same rather than measuring each one. Measure once, build a jig, end repetitive measuring. You’re doing good though holding down a full time job, farming animals, and this. Got a little worried it had been three weeks since your last video.

Jamie I had so much anxiety while you were building the logs this time. I had the most anxiety while you were in the corner with the circular saw. I just knew you were going to injure yourself. I believe you would have been far safer with a reciprocating saw or the saw you used in the beginning of the video to cut the tree. As you were assembling the logs you dropped your caulk gun and other tools at your feet hindering you and tripping you too. Just as a suggestion, you could spend a few minutes building yourself a jig to get the offsets you need for your log assembly. I speak from experience, the clutter at your feet during a project can cause an injury. It may be a minor injury or major, but take that moment for prevention, or this cabin build may end up feeling like the farm chores you spoke of in the beginning of the video. Thanks for sharing this build with us, and tell your boss lady thank you for sharing you with us too.

THESE VIDEOS ARE GREAT!!! Question: In TN you can just build without permits, plans, contractors etc? This is what I want to do! Land is handled (TN), now I just need the time and knowledge!
