G'day viewers,
Time for us to start another natural building project. In this video we begin the journey of building a large storage shed/shelter we are going to use to house our sawmill, as well as seasoned dimensional timber and cordwood.
It's gonna be a bit of a long project so i thought I would split it up into smaller parts. In this volume, we go about building some round wood ceiling trusses out of some sassafras saplings we harvested from the mountain.
Stay tuned for part two, which will probably comprise of us raising some trusses onto support posts and preparing to install the corrogated iron roof.
Cheers,
Tarn.

After 3 years, any observations on stability, snow weight? Truss spacing? Planning to follow your design, thinking truss every 2 feet apart.

    Just use Timberlock screws instead.

Wouldn't you be better drilling and knocking in a dry dowel pegs rather than nails? As the wood drys it will tighten on the pegs.

Trusses look like your roof may last 10 years or more. The bark being left on is my only concern, but I assume practicality trumps cost. I don't see an issue with all the cost-saving shortcuts, since it's just a small shed. So all in all, well done mates

Don’t believe what you hear about bark left on logs. We have log cabins here that are well over 100 years old with bark still on them. We have houses with log foundations that still have bark on. No problems at all. I guess it depends if you have termites etc. Here we don’t.

10 years? I have a pole barn build exactly the same way and it's 40+ years already and still going strong. It survived 70+ mile hour winds and crazy snow loads. As long as the wood stays dry they won't have any issues.

кору надо было снять - гнить не будут, а так сгниют через пару-тройку лет.
