Since it's foundation, A38 Ship hosted performances of underground legends and also mainstream - aka pop-rock, indie and electronic - superstars; in many cases, for the first time in Hungary. Acts like M83, Crystal Castles, Warpaint and Zola Jesus hit the famous stage on the Danube, and after 10pm, DJ-s like Ben Klock, DJ Marky and Blawan stood behind the decks to take the night to the next level. A38 Vibes collects the most memorable moments of the ship's own concert-footage archive, from The Boxer Rebellion's hymnic indie rock anthems to the funky moves of !!!'s Nic Offer. I downloaded “Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?” back in December 2007. I’d moved from Holland to Ottawa 4 months prior as a myopic rising sophomore and had no preparation for the ensuing six months of winter. My best friend left school for rehab, I was the sole day student who wasn’t from the city, and the border students had their own circles. I moved as a ghost from group to group, and downloaded gigs of music off Oink before it was shut down by Interpol in October 2007. This song made me feel minor grief at 15: today, as a 29 year old who’s loved and lost so many, i keeled over. Kevin Barnes is a Magi who came here to work some amazing spells

I fell in love with my girlfriend’s new best friend in freshman year in high school. The things is that I didn’t go to their school. I was home schooled. I showed up when school was out to pick up my girl. While I was waiting for her I was feeling really uncomfortable. I was shy as fuck and to be there amongst the masses was killing me. Well, while I was waiting for Mari a girl came up to me and said her friend had seen me and really liked me and wanted me to go to a party that night. I was as stand up guy and said I had a girlfriend and that was that. This made me so happy though. I felt like a complete outsider and my anxiety was like daggers in my spine. The fact some unknown girl had an interest in me meant the world. Well, about 3 months later I was waiting in front of my house for my girlfriend to show up with her ride to pick me up and she had her new best friend with her. The moment I saw her friend I was in rapture. I don’t know how not to sound cheap or rude about it but I’ll just let it rip. She was so perfectly symmetrical and thick. 5’4 with huge beautiful eyes and huge beautiful tits. I was dumbstruck by her. It turns out she was the one who sent her friend over to ask me to the party and she recognized me and thought I might have seen her and she was toast. I never knew it was her until 5 years later when after my girlfriend left me. We got together and have been together now for 33 years. I think the muses were working overtime for us.

I saw them at Lollapalooza once, at Pitchfork I think twice, and then headlining one night at… I want to say the Logan Square Auditorium, but it may’ve been the Aragon Ballroom… during the stretch of the ‘00s when they were touring furiously, so all in the span of 30 short months, and within the era when Kevin Barnes was making giant papier-mâché heads for his band, and bringing up 10 or 15 random people to wear them too, plus dragging this unruly crate of costumes onstage for everyone to change in and out of throughout the set - and it was all glorious!!! The first time I saw them, I had no idea what to think, but by the time they wrapped up I was cheering with glee! Sheer genius energy, every time.

LYRICS The past is a grotesque animal And in its eyes you see How completely wrong you can be How completely wrong you can be The sun is out, it melts the snow that fell yesterday Makes you wonder why it bothered I fell in love with the first cute girl that I met Who could appreciate Georges Bataille Standing at Swedish festival discussing "Story of the Eye" Discussing "Story of the Eye" It's so embarrassing to need someone like I do you How can I explain, I need you here and not here too How can I explain, I need you here and not here too I'm flunking out, I'm flunking out, I'm gone, I'm just gone But at least I author my own disaster At least I author my own disaster Performance breakdown and I don't want to hear it I'm just not available Things could be different but they're not Things could be different but they're not The mousy girl screams, "Violence! Violence!" The mousy girl screams, "Violence! Violence!" She gets hysterical because they're both so mean And it's my favorite scene But the cruelty's so predictable It makes you sad on the stage Though our love project has so much potential But it's like we weren't made for this world (Though I wouldn't really want to meet someone who was) Do I have to scream in your face? I've been dodging lamps and vegetables Throw it all in my face, I don't care Let's just have some fun Let's tear this shit apart Let's tear the fucking house apart Let's tear our fucking bodies apart But let's just have some fun Somehow you've red-rovered the gestapo circling my heart And nothing can defeat you No death, no ugly world You've lived so brightly You've altered everything I find myself searching for old selves While speeding forward through the plate glass of maturing cells I've played the unraveler, the parhelion But even apocalypse is fleeting There's no death, no ugly world Sometimes I wonder if you're mythologizing me like I do you Mythologizing me like I do you We want our film to be beautiful, not realistic Perceive me in the radiance of terror dreams And you can betray me You can, you can betray me But teach me something wonderful Crown my head, crowd my head With your lilting effects Project your fears on to me, I need to view them See, there's nothing to them I promise you, there's nothing to them I'm so touched by your goodness You make me feel so criminal How do you keep it together? I'm all, all unraveled But you know, no matter where we are We're always touching by underground wires I've explored you with the detachment of an analyst But most nights we've raided the same kingdoms And none of our secrets are physical None of our secrets are physical None of our secrets are physical now
