Hello everyone, I read your comments and am working on adding transcripts and tips on good practice to some of the upcoming videos. OET is a test of English, not of medical knowledge, so recommending fruits to a diabetic and/or not warning them about the sugar content (as a professional would do in real life) would not make you lose marks. Not asking the patient's name might not be a huge issue, since it is assumed that you, the "professional", have read the "patient notes" and know their name. Much more important is the polite and professional tone the "doctor" uses to introduce herself and ask about the patient's problems. Also, check your role play to verify if it is a new patient (then you should clearly introduce yourself and ask the patient name and a few personal details) or a returning/old patient, in which case you should understand that you and the patient have met before, so personal introductions are not needed.

:D in some roleplays, yes. But it also depends on the kind of role play, "patient", and stage of the role play. In the information gathering, the doctor asks open-ended questions to get the patient speaking and get more information. In the information giving, the doctor may do more speaking. OET looks at not many words are said, but how effective the doctor's/candidates language is at getting information, giving information, and guiding the interview. If the candidate is so skillful that their language is concise but effective, they still get a good score.

It can happen, patient centered care. I think hen that happens, the doctor can moderate and steer the conversation during the consultation while not compromising her responsibilities as the DOCTOR

Why the doctor never asks about the patient's name at the beginning ? I have seen many videos but no one ask about that? Is it unnecessary ??

This might have scored a B - clear speech, showed empathy and good relationship-building, non-judgmental, open- and closed-ended questions, giving information in language the patient could understand, and keeping the exchange going smoothly without long pauses or hesitations (because vocabulary or grammar is difficult). A few grammar errors, but they do NOT distract from the flow of the exchange.
