OET Role Play For Nurses 2 - Infected Wound

#OET #Roleplay #Infectedwound
#Cut #Debridement
In each Speaking test, your identity and profession are checked by the interlocutor and there is a short warm-up conversation about your professional background. Then the role-plays are introduced one by one and you have three minutes to prepare for each. The role-plays take about five minutes each.
##TASK: The 27-year-old patient is presenting with a painful, red and swollen 2cm cut on his/her upper left thigh. Three days ago, the patient fell and cut his/her thigh on a piece of metal. You have examined the cut and determined that it is infected and will require treatment.
Wounds that have been clinically diagnosed as infected could be treated with a topical antimicrobial that is appropriate for the clinical indications (e.g. exudates and odor management) as well as safe for and acceptable to the patient. Systemic antibiotics should be considered and used cautiously and in consultation with a specialist member of the multidisciplinary team.
A multidisciplinary approach, coupled with a treatment pathway that enables timely referral to specialists, is important for optimal outcomes. Thorough, ongoing assessment should be employed to evaluate the progression of the wound (according to the treatment goals) and the effect of treatment on meeting treatment goals.
