Figures like Gandalf and Santa Claus are based off of traditional depictions of Odin, so it is really fitting that instead of giving us a muscular mega god, Odin is a skinny, balding old man that uses his words to command the room. @@thegodofwar.6321 I’m pretty sure Cory or one of the game devs confirmed that old Kratos is stronger. Kratos got beat by Baldur cause he was rusty. And gods get stronger the older they get. And Kratos only held back against Thor in their first fight because he wasn’t trying to become the god he once was. Thor even confirms that Kratos didn’t hold back on that last punch. Young Kratos just had a lot of gear, and help from other beings.

Not in the slightest. If you're stronger than him he'll just attack your kid to get you to do something. Zeus will just kill you where you stand and tank the consequences but to him there are none so... That's way more terrifying

You guys also should consider that in the beginning of GoW3, the single charged lightning bolt of Zeus heavily damaged Gaia (since it contact her initially) and aftershock of the bolt sent Kratos flying even thou Kratos literally tried to use Golden Fleece(It can be seen in a split second). The same Golden Fleece which can block the hits from Blade of Olympus.

One of the best battles so far.

I think what's most dangerous about Odin is he doesn't look very physically imposing. He definitely evokes the cunning and strategist that the first game built him up to be. But when he needs to fight, he _can._ And he's not a pushover, either- arguably his skill with Gungnir and magic makes him one of the most dangerous gods in the Norse pantheon.

Idk if it was mentioned in the game but mythological Odin possesses a quite spectacular thing - Gungnir. The spear that always finds its target and strikes it down no matter what. Also Odin is considered a God of War more Athena-wise (strategic war and giving power against a foe)

His entire purpose of existence is strategizing to win ragnarök, a war that he's literally destined to lose, while being at war with frost and fire giants at the same time

I believe it's a pretty even matchup but who wins is dependent on something crucial: Time. If you tell Zeus he's gonna square up against a head god of another pantheon tomorrow, he'll sit back and probably laugh at you before gathering a few trinkets to help in the fight against them the next day, he's confident in his abilities. Odin would probably send ravens immediately to every corner of greece and scandinavia to ensure a solid victory on Zeus and then kill him, staying up every second looking into Zeus's portfolio and set up the perfect plan to fuck him over. It's not like he'd play fair either, if anything he would use his spear to end Zeus before the ref even starts the match, not like he gives a shit about honor

Kratos would have a harder time fighting Odin because he uses the magic and could block him or, in general, cast strong and annoying spells, while against Zeus, brute strength and the power of Pandora's box are enough to kill him. Now, the fact that Kratos needs a special and almost unrecoverable power to beat Zeus, while to beat Odin he just needs to get angry so he simply becomes too strong (since the more angry Kratos gets, the stronger he becomes) makes it clear that Zeus is actually stronger than Odin, although the latter could use spells and similar stuff to escape from the fight or to imprison Kratos and save himself, while Zeus cannot.

First of all kratos and atreus lost to odin in a 2v1 and they only won after Freya joined despite the fact that old kratos is said to be stronger than young kratos by the developers while they also said norse gods are stronger than greek gods. It's true that kratos needed the power of pandora's box to finally beat odin but at the time kratos was weaker than the time he fought odin. So odin is definitely stronger than zeus.

In greek mythology Zeus is considered as immortal unkillable god unlike odin.

So the fact that the Norse gods are giving old Kratos as much of a hard time as they are says something. Kratos didn't win his last fight against Baldur in a 1v1. He had Loki’s help. Same with the Odin fight. Odin killed Thor QUICKLY. I find it hard to believe that Kratos would win in a 1v1 against Odin. #2- according to Kratos himself via the God of War 2018 audio book, Baldur was his toughest fight yet (I'll find the timestamp eventually). Agree or disagree with the consistency of the writing, that's what is canon.

Norse hard loses this one. Based on what we saw and how they scale Kratos despite holding back the entire time, beat every single Norse God with no issue at all. Other than Thor and Odin and maybe, maybeee Heimdall, the Norse pantheon gets one shot by Greek Gods.

I think that the devs' intention with this design of Odin was not to make a bulky and body-builder fighter, but rather a mastermind of the battlefield. He knows how to manipulate his enemy to get an advantage. And he also has a vast knowledge of magical abilities. All this combined, this actually kind of gives an edge to Odin over Zeus. In raw combat, Zeus might win, but in overall combat, Odin takes the cake.

Norse God's are literally destined to die to giants. Greek gods killed the titans when they were younger and therfore weaker. 2, Odin himself maybe more knowledgeable and smarter than Zeus, but that's not to say Zeus himself is an idiot. In the real mythology Zues has his own wisdom as well as the wisdom of the goddess of wisdom within him because he ate her. 3, thor is not fucking up zeus lmao. Zeus is stronger than Thor straight and gave Kratos a way harder time than thor. 4, Kratos is stronger now, yes but he's also much more mellow and HOLDING back. The Kratos Zeus fought was tbe absolute peak of Kratos' rage and bloodlust AND Kratos had access to his magic and the blade of Olympus.

This misconception about “Greek magic>Norse magic” is getting really old. I’m pretty sure you’re referring to what mimir and freya were saying with kratos yes? They were talking specifically about the sisters of fate, who are without question the most powerful entities in god of war lore. That had nothing to do with zeus himself. They were talking about the ability to travel through time, and were happy that Odin didn’t have access to that power. That doesn’t mean Greek magic> Norse magic lol…
