Uliana Lopatkina's performance is the cleanest so most elegant in terms of music! I have never seen something like that beautiful before - comments from a lady from Science not Art, so could be wrong.

Nunez is the only one really dancing rather than going through a series of poses.

Nunez is off the music because her self satisfaction has blinded her from what the real work requires. She thinks she is better than the score. She isn't. Everything she does is covered in this self satisfied schmaltz. And what are those feet? Zakharova is resting on her facility because she has never been criticized. Jerky and awkward. Lopatkina's interpretation is musical and soft but has a deliberate and reliable force behind it. She clearly has some humility and therefore approaches the role, the choreography and the music as an artist, with steps of inquiry.

@@gzucc very well said. I watched Núñez dancing on different stages and it can’t be just the sound delay, she’s is very often off the music. Here I don’t see Odette, I see Núñez screaming at me “Look how I can bend. Look! And I also can do this stretch and turn. See that? And now this this! Huh! Oh the applause coming up and the bravo screams!”

My favorite Odette remains Zhakarova. Her fluidity, finesse, delicate, vulnerable, fragile, perfect ballerina body and her arms and hands are a marvel (Baryshnikov picked her out for them), also best extensions.

Lopatkina is a magical dancer! She is a swan-princess, not just a princess! She performes like a real creature made of water, air and feathers! Breathtaking! That's ballet is all about!

Lopatkina. She dances with her entire body, has exquisite legato and epaulement, and I love the heavenly length of her legs. I agree that Zakharova and Nunez are both very good and also all three are very different from one another. Thanks for posting.

@@Marta44339 Agree, Lopatkina was an Odette like no other. I was surprised to hear in an interview that her favorite role is Queen Meme-Baku {I think that's the name---the queen in Legend of Love} rather than Odette/Odile. She does this little body ripple thing going into the fall in the first part of the White Swan pdd. And she and Sveta are of a height I'd previously seen only over at NYCB. Nunez is smaller and built more like a normal person, but her dramatic skills, musicality, feet, arms, hands, turn-out, overall technical skill, energy and overall nice-Ness and work ethic do it for me. But this is choosing on 10 out of a field of 10s. That's why it's art: different elements that combine to make dancers of this level appeal to different dance enthusiasts.

@@minissa2009 Surprising. I don't like what I've seen of Legend of Love. However, at the end of her career I think Lopatkina gravitated more to contemporary or nonclassic works. Another tall dancer I love is Kondaurova, not represented in this compilation.

Lopatkina gives one the sense that she is being carried on a cloud and the air beneath her is a carpet of wonderful things, which she allows us to marvel at during her daily oxygen bath in the sky. Lovely!

I gotta choose Lopatkina over Zakharova such grace and delicateness on both but Uliana is flawless!!💖Of course techniques are different so to each their own Bravo but Russian ballerinas express more swan like fluidity!!🙂

All are amazing! but Lopatkina is like water flow, she uses her arms perfectly and she is very balanced

Marianela is the most beautifully controlled of the three with a slow motion quality that gives the feeling of dreaming - flowing through each movement with absolute precision and mastery of every step, and her arms portray a sense of royal dignity that only she has been able to date to create. The other two are also very beautiful but for me Nela is the bela the ball, even as a swan!

To me, I see a better swan movements in this Lopatkina's performance. But they're wonderfull, of course.

Marianela is my favorite. Her economy of motion makes her dancing fluid and her gracefulness is beyond compare. Just beautiful!

Lopatkina is the weathered swan, succumbing to the mannerisms, peckishness, and fluidity this form yields her. Her interpretation of odette to me felt of a swan more than a woman... who knew more than the story could ever convey. (This is my favorite, the spiritual rendition) Zhakarova, embodying the innocence of the trapped Odette, who feels this cosmic connection flutter the humanistic expression. (The expression of the mind) Nunez, a dancer of the swan song itself, the pleasures of love, the unforgiving swiftness it encapsulates our life, the hormones it produces (the dance of the body)

It seems that Zakharova particularly understands the frequency of music and the twists and turns of the direction. Her movements are gentle, listening to music or compressing, pausing or moving. These internal connections are difficult to describe clearly. I believe that Tchaikovsky would appreciate Zakharova’s thoughtfulness to music and would inspire her to write new works for her.

Я тоже за Захарову.Больше по другим партиям нравится Лопаткина ,но Захарова здесь по музыкальности и сложности интерпритации и вовлеченности в образ- лучшая.Захарова здесь женщина - лебедь,она настоящая .Лопаткина ,конечно ,это лебединая песня,грустная и нежная.А не русская балерина удивила и покорила своей удивительной красотой долгой позы ,и очень много красивых пордебра и работы головы,координация отличная.

I feel similarly. Zakharova mixes the types of gestures she uses, some are smooth, some are sudden and unexpected (I would almost say purposefully awkward). This creates a depth of psychology beyond pure beauty which all three versions obviously posess. There is something tragic in those repeats of the little double jump she makes twice on the repeat of the main theme, it's almost as if she is trying to escape from the physical realm. I find it almost hard to breathe while watching her.

I am neither British or Argentine, but I am a former dancer, Nunez is absolutely the best in this variation. She is flawless in technique and interpretation. She is pure perfection,

I do not agree at all! She is the best Kitri, yes, vigorous and fast, but unfortunately she has absolutely no real Vaganova's technicity and soul to perform this variation. Zakharova is the best Odetta ever !

I can understand that Argentines and the British root for the home team. But Nunez has an economy of movement. Some would say limited movement. After all, it is easier to not make a mistake if the movements are limited. Lopatkina and Zakharova both bring forth a true image of a swan. I personally would choose Zakharova as my favorite. I have seen her several times in Russia, and she brings the house down with almost every scene that she is in. Even twenty years after her debut, every performance is fabulous. Lopatkina is equally enthralling to watch. Russians have an absolute lock on Tchaikovsky's ballets. They understand it and feel it as they dance.

Ulyana è Divina......fantastiche le altre

The one that makes me dream is Lopatkina, so this is the version I prefer. Zakharova is sheer perfection. And Marianela is precise as a clock.

If I squint just a little bit, I can actually see a swan with Lopatkina. For me, she is an icon in this role. But, it is certainly hard to take your eyes off the beauty of Marianela Nunez. She is just out-of-this-world good. I don’t think there is anything she cannot do. Zakarova is exquisite as well, but I don’t feel she inhabits the role as well as Lopatkina and Nunez. Once again, thank you so much for posting.

Lopatkina and Zakharova are the Best!!! Bravo!!!

Lopatkina manages to show a swan floating on the water! Magical! Nunez adds some wonderful nuances. Zakharova's was the most athletic interpretation. I love Nunez, but Lopatkina is simply the best!

Lopatkina Odette is mystical and unhuman. Nunez Odette is warm and human side is more emphasized, like saying "I'm a princess, this figure is temporary". Zakharova Odette seems trying to show her physical superiority. It's like swan bustle around.

I don't really know, i feel like zakharova is the perfect mix between lucid emotion which lopatkina lacks, and superior swan-like grace which nunez lacks.

@@shandanakhalid2904 i feel the same way, for me Zhakarova is the best, The real Odette. Fluid, pliable,delicate, so light, finesse, perfect ballerina body, vulnerable, unearthy, her arms, hands are a marvel, Baryshnikov picked her out for them. Best extensions too.

Меня удивляет Захарова - есть превосходные физические данные, а смотреть скучно, балерина не создаёт образ, лицо без эмоций и, какое-то, старообразное. Не балетный спектакль, а гимнастика в балетной пачке. Скучно!

Ulyana's head moves more expressively and her arms are out of the world, and she has the soulful quality in her looks.The other two girls look a bit contemporary.

Svetlana has always been my favourite Odette, because I love how she uses her whole body to express the emotions of the character, but I also like Ulyana! Marianela is good, but I think that in Swan Lake the Russian ballerinas are the most amazing 😍😍

I agree. Zakharova is unbelievable perf cation and Uliana is a dream creature. But I simply love Marianela. Always the same words describe her: softness and grace. Somehow beyond exquisite artistry.

Swan Lake, happy ending, Mariinsky, Lopatkina, more traditional story, her Odette is romantic; Swan Lake, sad ending, Bolshoi, Zakharova, Grigorovich choreography, Odette is aloof. I love both versions, both ballerine.

Marianella Nunez, just perfect control and so emotional

Lopatkina is very smooth and her legs and generally extremities are so long which adds to her elegant movement, virtuosity, and fluidity. She is a unique and very beautiful “swan.” Nunez’ delivers clean perfect performance and uses larger part of the stage. I like how she positions her feet in forth on the floor after bringing her leg down from developpe . She is so good technically, musically and her version of this variation is the best. Svetlana Zakharov’s is a ballerina with so much potential, talent, elegance, artistry. I look at her and it’s hard to take my eyes of her. She is soooo technical and sooo elegant , and she has the capability to make a single small movement extremely elegant and beautiful. She is like a “real swan coming out from the lake.” It’s impossible to compare the performances of three amazing top professional ballerinas principles. I can only compare the three different versions of one variation. Nunez dances the best version and the other two are so beautiful because of the dancers’ qualities, unique beautiful features and personal signature and input in the variation.

All are amazing... but Nunez...she moves me.

Sveta & Nela ...& Lopatkina.....don’t make me choose amongst all complete Perfection. 👏💐🦢 Sveta May be Prima Ballerina Assoluta for me it’s so hard to dry knowing Nela is perfect in another style...and Nela’s kindness is overwhelming. I e had the honor of witnessing Sveta dance Giselle with David Hallberg in D.C. it moved me to tears and changed my life so: that affect is impossible to forget or deny. For me personally.

amo a la Núñez delicadeza en sus movimientos..

They are all very good, they feel Odette's melancholy, but in my opinion Svetlana is the best! Best performance, best interpretation... she not only dance, she act, she actually put herself in Odette place and later she completely change and became a perfidious Odile... moreover she feel the music like no other dancer!

I just enjoy the genius and beauty of all 3!

All three are astounding dancers but the two who stand out are Nunez and Lopatkina - Nela’s control is off the scale - 3.27 as she turns in attitude is unbelievable. Lopatkina completely embodies a swan.

all ballerinas are wonderful in their own way. Lopatkina is tender, Nunez is very warm and graceful, Zakharova is amazingly graceful but lacks emotions.

Nunez does wonderful phrasing and musicality. Zhakarova gives such beautiful full-out technique to the steps.

Nela has the best artistry and spatial tension by far. Lopatkina was not on her leg, the turns at the end really showed that. She's a great dancer, but we all have our off days. Svetlana was gorgeous as always, but odette is all about expression, and it did not come through as well as it could have. One of the things I LOVE about Nela is that even the most technical parts are SO expressive!! Those turns are her specialty. Also every time she does an attitude balance turn thing, she just hangs in the space, CONSISTENTLY! I'm super biased, but that's my 2 cents. Ballet is more than a pretty line.

The technique of Marianela is enviable, and the way that her movements coordinate with the music is just perfect.

Look at the way ALL THREE DANCERS COME DOWN FROM THE POINTS!!!!!!! There you will see who is on CONTROL of the position.... Miss Nuñes is THE ONLY ONE WHO NEVER, EVER DORPS FROM THE POINT TO THE HILL, like the other two dancers do... very high legs, and all of the millions of port the bras and the very russian way, is true, but Nuñes has a permanent control of her dancing....and because of that, she gives a much more round performance, more fluid, more articulated... See Sakharova at 7:21, a principal dancer of that name cannot EVER come down from a pose in that way... We should all stop admiring how GIFTED the dancer are, how big the coup de pie is, how high the grands double ronde de jambe are, and see the CONTROL that a strong technic give you.

Nunez is amazing...I love how she seems to fall out of her turns off balance..I rarely see it..I don't know the terminology...its glorious and so pretty how she turns and let's her head tilt, why don't they all do that .I imagine it's very hard to do.

Yes, I noticed that too! Those little touches really make a difference. That was the first thing I noticed in Zakarova’s performance, she stayed very straight in her turns and didn’t seem to float and flow through the movements as well as Nunez in particular. Also, I didn’t see her do the floaty attitudes early on like Lopatkina and Nunez did. Her ending was a beautiful position, but it seemed too staged to me.

Nunez looks like a pillar most of the time, while Svetlana and Ulyana show more curves and fluidity, especially at the beginning. Svetlana has the most beautiful arms, and Ulyana's legs amaze me. I like Nunez, but compared to the two Russians, she's more like posing than dancing.

I agree for the arms and the work on arms by Russian ballerine( i use Italian pluriel) that the reason why Nureev in Paris said the perfect dancer has French foot and legs and the head and arms Russian😤🤩

They are three top dancers, pure excellence. There is nothing more to say.

Whole of them are great artist!

Definitely Svetlana Zhakarova!!! She has exquisite beauty of line and suppleness and breath of movement, plus shows exceptional technical polish and control. Mariana Nunez is lovely, too! (Personally, Lopatkina leaves me cold and lacks the technical polish and control of the others.)

They are all EXQUISITE! ✨ What a question! 😅 But I would say Lopatkina is most feminine/spiritual, Nunez is most expressive, and Zakharova is most technically impeccable. Zakharova could afford to communicate more with the audience and take some expressive risks. Her extensions are killer, though 😍

1. Lopatkina, 2. Nunez, 3. Zakharova. I'm basing my rating on use of upper body (arms, head) and fluidity of the jete/arabesque diagonal sequence. Lopat comes out top, she conveys swan-like credibility. Nunez doesn't quite have the romantic lyricism, or extenuated physicality of Lopat, but is very polished indeed, with nice fluidity. Zakharova reminded me of a clothes peg in the jete/arabesque sequence--far too stiff.
