It's a dream at this point to see Odesza live. I missed out on the cinematic experience last year, as I had to work. But I'm hoping there may be a future live tour in the UK.

Nothing beats when the live vocals sound better than the studio vocals, but I guess that’s true for every aspect of an ODESZA concert so I shouldn’t even be surprised anymore 😂 hats off once again.

I loved this. ODESZA’s growth really brings a tear to my eye man. These guys never disappoint. Massionair’s voice is so transcending live, this was absolutely perfect man.

It’s actually Yellow House’ very own Emile van Dango who sang on the album version. Jack just did the live version. Would be epic to see Yellow House join Odesza next tour!

Have you actually been to their shows? I’ve never heard of someone who’s ever been and said it was lame. As someone who has personally seen them multiple times, I can confidently say they’re one of the best live sets I’ve ever experienced.

Yes and no. While yes, Harrison and Clay aren’t doing anything super visually impressive. They are still performing a lot of parts live. For an electronic act to perform their music, and not just go up and DJ is the major appeal behind an ODESZA live show. But they also try to make the live shows as entertaining as possible and as live as possible. They bring out horn players, a drum line, they had a bass player and a drummer on the actual drum kit for a song, they’ll also play the piano and guitar on some songs. It’s extremely impressive for an electronic act to be so performative as they are, and their live shows are some of the best that i’ve gone to. I love seeing bands play live and I personally hate going and seeing DJs because of how boring it is to just watch a dude transition one song to the next, but these guys strike that balance of electronic music, DJ/mixing, and also live performing.

The drums are overkill

quite clearly not live, tho. unsure of level of deceit, you either pretend to play live performances with lip-sync etc, or you replaced the audio in this live-vid with studio audio. eg: 0:56 the singer's wildly changing distance from mic - but with ZERO difference in audio quality/volume. 🤷‍♀

The vocals are live. He's singing with a quiet backing track for the harmony. This is more audible in the actual LiB live stream. They definitely do fake other things, but the vocals aren't one of them.

I see what you mean too. Jack is good, but he doesn’t have the range and timbre of voice like Emile van Dango of Yellow house. It does make sense why the studio harmonies are louder than Jack in the live shows.

If you listen really closely you can hear the increase in lower frequencies in his voice when we get his mouth closer to the microphone due to proximity effect. They have harmonies in the backing track to fill out the vocal sound. This is a very common thing to do in modern live music. But Jack is still singing this song live. And when you have a really good audio engineer that knows how to process vocals well, you can dial in compression really well to reduce the inconsistency of level from when he’s singing further away and when he’s singing right on the mic. I mix live sound and i’ve had vocalists who are really inconsistent with mic technique that i’ve dialed in really well to be super consistent with really good compression.

The problem with this version is that it's not long enough. And there is something about that look at 2:22 🫠
