Thats because they were released in 1997. They were not underrated, nor were they in anyway unknown. They are just older games that young people didnt play...Like hundreds of other successful games from the past..The fact that they aren't played by todays generation, does not make them underrated, simply old.

For those of you who were discouraged because of the controls being on the analongs don't be because an update released a while back allowing old school controls.

Grid based? The notice on the Steam page made it sound like it just restricted control options to be more like the original, rather than actually binding your movement to tiles to restore the original's precision.

Good review! But he didn't mention that there is an option to switch off the "always run" function. You can set your running controls to the way they were in the original. And that was his only real criticism of the game!

Oddworld was probably one of the more interesting fictional worlds I've ever experienced. I want to see more.

Would rather the original any day of the week. Better control, art style and just feel in general. Something felt off about this game from start to finish for me. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it and hopefully it revives an excellent series, but it was too fast paced. In the original you get time to appreciate the art and environment.

Amazing series, so atmospheric, didnt know they'd remade this, loved the first oddworld game & abes exodus

Childhood memories, PERFECTLY remastered, the way a game should be remastered! I still love it so much

It's funny, but even with the updated visuals, I instantly recognise all the environments from the original game. In that regard, nothing's really changed; of course, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Some of the features from Abe's Exoddus have crept into the remake, too, I notice. 300 mudokons to rescue, compared to the original's 99. Quicksaving, I remember, was the main thing that made Exoddus easier than Oddysee. I wonder what they'd do with an Exoddus remake... ? Definitely picking this game up :)

I loved this series. I hope it comes to the xbone... if not enjoy it PS4 peeps

Good to see people not hating on other people because they have a different personal opinion.

This well thought out review video is spot on. It's gorgeous to look at, amazing to play and feels so familiar to the original I played so many years ago on my original Playstation. It was one of those Playstation games like Wipeout that truly gave you something you'd never seen or experienced before, and it's remarkable how well the original Oddworld's graphics and sound still look fresh. You absolutely, positively have to play this game. Oddworld; Abe's Odyssey is a genuine masterpiece and an unforgettable gaming experience.

I'm glad this game wasn't simply called "Oddworld".

I heard that Oddworld Inhabitants actually asked the fans what the game should be called. If you ask me, that is showing some real connection to the fans.

One of the best games of my childhood. The graphics look beautiful and IF i ever do purchase a PS4, this game is on my list!

Brilliant game, loved it back in 1997 can't wait to get this :-)

Even as a remake, I still think it's the best game I played all year. Hopefully they get enough people to at least remake the sequel, if not then a completely new game.

This type of 2.5d animation is really how they should have done Munch's Oddysee.

This is one of the reasons I absolutely live Playstation Now. I may never have even knew that a upgrade of one of my favorite games existed. Now, not only do I know that it's a thing, but I get to play it for very close to free.

Do you have to use the analog control for movement and not the D-pad? If so, I'll just play it on the keyboard.

The only gripe I have is the movement on the analog stick, but it's countered by sneaking if you want to make precise movements. An 8 is a fair score

I agree that the changes to the controls make things a bit worse. I also don't like how the game was made easier in a number of ways than the original game. It's still a very solid remake though. Despite the original game being so old, it still has more creativity and care out into it than most games made today. I reckon some of Mark of the Ninja's stealth mechanics even borrowed from it a little. A true masterpiece.

Oddworld abes oddyssey was 1 of the best games for ps1, I absolutely luv the new n tasty remake it brings back a lot of good memories.

First, a city builder. Now, a 3d platform game. What's next, Epic?

I can't help but want a complete remake of Stranger's Wrath with these graphics. Other than characters with the same voices, Stranger's Wrath was one of the best and most unique games I ever played. I loved just controlling Stranger- it felt SO GOOD when he'd break into a sprint and galloped across the landscape. Glad Oddworld is back. Gladly bought this. Anything to get away from the endless slog of shooters and indies too focused on being some ridiculous "arthouse" experience rather than just being a good, fun game to play.

I loved this game as a kid!

I definitely prefer the original. I suppose I would say that though growing up with it. My parents and I love the 2 originals and have played them since they were released. The remake just doesn't have the same feel. Splitting the environment into frames added to the feel of the game, because you didn't know what was coming up next and really had to plan, especially because it was a flat screen and you had to really search for the bonus levels. Ahh well...

Heart of Darkness was rated E and me personally don't think it should be rated E since all the deaths look pretty brutal. One of my top 5 favorite games to be honest

Anyone knows what the hell happened to the pc and xbox 360 version of this game?? Cause Im looking for them like crazy. All what I can found are only ps4 walkthroughs on youtube.

It's crazy to think that the in game graphics or just as good if not better then the original game's CGI cut scenes !

Nice review, it shows how the Oddworld creator Lorne Lanning love hes weird and violence universe of Oddworld. Near perfect game that shows even more with games like Strider that even on next-gen consoles, 2D platformers can still work greatly. My only negative is like say in your reveiw, dont understand why no option to inverse in using D-pad for movement. Analog stick are made for 3D game, NOT 2D (played in 2D even with 3D graphics)!

They did a really good job with this remake as 12 year old me loved the original on the PS1, It's really great but the controls got on my nerves occasionally.

It's cool that this game was made with Unity.but the cutscenes are a bit rushed..still, though.. It was a remake of one of my favorite childhood games.. so I have played through it twice already.

Kinda reminds me of the Clank secrions in R&C.

Can't wait for vita release though leery of the analog stick thing. Hope exoddus comes next, worship oddworld not least stranger.

hopefully dpad is an option if not i hope it will get patched in, i could imagine using the stick would be so frustrating

i still the 1st 2 on ps1 so i wont be buying this but im glad to see the series hasnt been forgotten.

i never beat this game before (too many copyd games maybe as 1 reason) so i will buy it again, still i don't think i beat it this time.. unless i use youtube all the time maybe. also too many other games that i still need to play or continue like gta 5, bayonetta 2, dragon age inquisition, assassins creed unity and sunset overdrive (yes i do have all 3 consoles)
