    The thing with the North Melbourne 50 metre call is players can't assume it's play on. They are taught from juniors to play the whistle and did not listen clear as day 50m

    There was a moment in the Lions Saints game, where Darcy Willmony gather the ball from a tap down, and got sandwiched by two saints as he tried to run, resulting in all 3 going down. The umpire called it 'in the back' but AGAINST Willmont. Somehow the player in possession pushed a saints player in the back? The only explanation i can think of is the umpire meant to call 'holding' and just misspoke.

  • @shanaggy
    @shanaggyАй бұрын

    Agree with other comments here, Scott tried to draw the 50 tbh. I've seen some arguments say he was sprinting and had to come to a stop and momentum and all that, which is a load of shit. The bloke dumps it inside 50 about 1.30 left to go in the game and stays on the wing until he gets it back, so you can assume he was doing a light jog at best. Umpire was shit for taking too long to call anything, Scott dumb for running the few extra steps. Not Sidebottom/Beau. None of this would be talked about either if Scotts shit kick back into the 50 was a mark.

    I think landing on your feet makes a mark better! And I disagree about the 50 at the end of the game - the NM player with the mark clearly started to play on and stepped off the line, then changed his mind.

  • @Ryzi03

    @Ryzi03

    Ай бұрын

    I'm with you on half of that. Sticking the landing 100% makes the mark better. If you've got the control and skill to not only run, jump and mark but to also stick the landing on the way down, that's miles better than only having the control to do the run, jump and mark part. I'm biased as a North supporter but it doesn't matter whether he started to play on or not, the umpire never called play on so you can't just run over the mark because you believe it to be play on. Might as well not have umpires at all if we're going to let the players decide when it's play on or not. The reasoning that the AFL gave that it's not 50 because the umpire didn't call 'stand' to indicate the mark is complete bullshit as well. If that's the case, what's stopping anyone else from crossing the mark before the umpire calls them to stand. No amount of shit umpiring can excuse us dropping a 9 goal lead though, we just don't have the legs for a full 4 quarters of hard effort at the moment

  • @CalculatedPsycho
    @CalculatedPsychoАй бұрын

    The media and people eating it up as an 'umpire call that cost north' is tiring, absolutely no one in their forward 50 takes a mark, immediately continues to take 4-5 steps off their mark, gives up when they see 2 defenders approaching and expects to be rewarded a free by pointing out the mark they just left, so why would it be any different on the wing or anywhere else on the field? He was JOGGING when he took the mark and had clear intention of playing on (BECAUSE HE DID) and even played on once he realized the umpire completely distracted the two pies after him. None of them thought it was a mark, THEY ALL went to play on and by the time they stopped for the whistle that's what it was, you don't get to revoke your choice to play-on and get rewarded for it because you stopped for a call that lost its effect the moment you kept on running with the ball? Play-on everyday of the week regardless of who you support and it's hard to believe this is even an argument considering how many other free kicks that were legitimately free kicks got missed and no one talks about it because the underdog lost.

    Yes, North should not have blown a 54 point lead. Also though, North were slaughtered by the umps. And when you are a bottom side trying to beat Collingwood AND the umpires it is freaking hard. The Qaynor throw, the Daicos throw and the non-50 metre penalty were all terrible calls that should have led to shots on goal for North. As well as Collingwood being given a goal that was touched and should have been over-turned. As well as a pretty harsh 50 metre penalty resulting in a goal to Collingwood when Powell took 3 seconds or so to give the ball back to the Collingwood player. End free kick count was 24-14. It was uneven to say the least. I think the North lads deserved better, but I am not salty because it was the best footy North have played in about 3 seasons, and when the younger kids have a bigger tank we will not get over run so easily. The green shoots are finally starting to sprout. Go Roos!

    3:14 i think it would have been 50 if the Umpire said "Stand" or something like that, also he did go off the Mark when walking back so that is play on. thats just my opinion tho im not Responding to any Replies

    @shatogirl she's talking about the steps he took after he stopped running, he was going to play on, changed his mind when the pies players ran towards him (pretty sure they didn't hear the whistle the crowd getting pretty loud might need a fog horn) by then the umpire had already decided to call play on....

    @@shatogirl the error was in the umpires lack of communication not the fact that a 50 wasn't paid, but all that aside in the confusion Scott played on with full unfetted access and couldn't convert, 3 more shots on goal after that and neither one was converted......on a side note that "mark" was after Nick Daicos was pulled away from the ball by the scruff of his jumper and should have been a free for holding but we won't talk about that will we? No because it doesn't fit the narrative that north was robbed or that Daicos is umpired differently (was held earlier in the game too and soccer kicked the ball into his opponents head)

    You can go back they do it if the ball is touched, they will take the ball back for a kick in, and in this game I think 1 qtr Harry sheezle pinned #no 19 and 20 seconds later he gets his free kick, and there is also a third umpire mate.

    You make great vids, longer the better. %100 disagree about the north 50, he took the mark jogging and then took 5 steps, at least 3 of those steps weren't necessary. I think he was trying to draw the defenders toward him to try and milk a 50, %100 played on. Also (not wanting to disagree with you too much ...but) with everyone complaining about bad umpiring, surly if the further away umpire gets the call right then that's a good thing, no? Again awesome content, I only watch 1 game a week if I'm lucky so i miss all this stuff, cheers.

    That's all good mate, you can disagree with me. That's no issue at all. I guess that's why everyone has differing opinions on if that should have been a 50m penalty. I agree that it should have been a mark and Larkey knocked it out late, sometimes that's play on, sometimes its a mark and sometimes its a 50m penalty.... so who knows!

    could not fucking agree more with both of your crows swans gripes- the 50 absolutely needs to be paid and is a disgrace to stop play and florent come back, and using out of bounds as a "oh all I need to do is get out of play and im safe" is infuriating

    If a player feints a handball to try and milk a 50 like keays did then the umpire is required not to pay it. That's been the case since the stand rule was introduced, perfectly umpired in this instance actually.
