Sheesh considering the cost of the strap that is insane. The strap cost is already insane markup (like 10x or more), but to have it not even be good enough quality to last a week is incredible! Fit pack is crazy pricing too. Sure it's a new product and all, but it's for a device being sold to many millions of people; it should definitely have the savings of scale on it's side.

The fit pack isn't too bad considering you get 3 things but because it's rare to need them it's too expensive. Thry should put the wide or the narrow in and make it 25.

Mine is working fine, and we have lots of kids who also play it. Haven't had any issues, but then again, we aren't torqueing down the thing either.

@@VRCauldron They had to have really torqued down on it. I've gotten mine really snug, and it feels like the tighten mechanism itself would break before that strap would. I really tightened down on mine too. It was causing a lot of pressure on my face and I had to loosen it, not once did the strap seem like it could break. But yes, a max on how tight you can make it would be ideal.

I really like that they made the facial interface narrower that the Q1. I have a pretty big head and a "normal" width but I always got light leak from the sides on the 1. I don't have this problem with the 2

I bought the Costco pack which includes the elite strap and the fit pack. It only cost around $30 more than the standalone 256GB headset, and without the wide interface, the blur seemed really bad with my 70mm IPD. With the wide interface, which brings my eyes closer to the lenses, I can totally use it - still blurry around the edges, but it's the best I'm likely to get short of buying an Index.

I have an Elite Strap, but I'm looking into the Deluxe Audio Strap after seeing all the broken Elite Straps. I have a Reverb G2 on order since late August, so when that arrives it'll probably become my main, but I still love the standalone aspect of the Quest 2, and I hate, hate, hate the stock strap.

Do yourself a favor, I bought the DAS and originally got my Quest 2 with the official case, but no normal case will easily hold the headset with the DAS attached, order a Vive Cosmos carry case, it's a pelican type case designed almost perfectly for the setup, and it's only $42 after tax on Amazon as opposed to the $50, and it's got room to hold MUCH more than the official case.

If you dont want to carry your Quest around everywhere sure its not too bulky, but that's why I had to buy a case specific with the intention of holding the DAS otherwise I wouldnt have been able to USE the DAS, cause no case would have fit it.

I definitely came close to breaking mine day 1, pulled it up before loosening the strap, heard a loud crack - but luckily no damage. Great PSA video!

I definitely wanna get the thin cover. I tried my friends original quest and I loved it. I asked for a quest 2 for my birthday and I was pretty disappointed by the lower FOV. I can see around the lenses and It looks like trash and not really too immersive.I've gotten over it a little now but I still really want that FOV boost.

Velcro a power bank on the stock strap and it's much better. Balances the headset with the top band, and allows lower headband tension. I even found one with pass thru charging.

How is the comfort level with use? My headset slides down

When I use the stock one my forehead and cheeks are really red after, do you think this will make it more comfortable for me ?

Oooo! Halo strap ftw! That's one thing my Rift S has hands down, bar none, in spades, is comfort over my Quest 2. Even with a DAS, the Quest 2 is nowhere near as comfortable IMO as my Rift S w/ stock halo, cotton washable facial pads with no foam underneath.

The halo is really balanced but I'm not a fan. They are the most comfortable but I like being able to comfortably put my head back on a cushion. Though I'm sure it won't be a problem for many.

I think the material of the elite strap is definitely not strong enough, but it may last longer if the arms are parallel to the strap when wearing it.

Loving the content, just found you recently. I enjoy Oculus pushing VR like it has, but the cost has been....rough to say the least. Hopefully in 2 years VR is standard and FB has, ahem, realized the error of their ways

I thought the fit pack would be a waste but it turns out that the narrow interface is exactly what my wife needed to make the Quest 2 fit properly for her. I tried the Wide interface and it's definately too big and doesn't fit me comfortably (the left and right edges don't contour to my face - the exact issue my wife was having with the standard interface).

Glad to know the narrow interface worked well! I suspect I might need the narrow interface as well. I'm petite (5'0") and my IPD is only 56, so I'm already maxed out on the bottom end. I just wish someone made a version of the narrow interface for working out!

Was your fov tests done with glasses and the spacer in?

No spacer, with and without glasses, made no difference

Have you tried removing the cover completely and held the Quest 2 into position? I know you wear glasses but for me it made such a big difference. I don't know if it's just that when you remove the frame you see the environment around you which fools your brain into thinking your not wearing anything or if the lenses are actually closer to your eyes and it actually is increasing the FOV. I think maybe a combination of the two help out allot. I think maybe having a black frame around your FOV makes it seem like your looking through binoculars making you feel trapped. Someone should make a thin cover for the Quest 2 which allows your eyes to be closer to the lenses, maybe a cover that is clear someone-how allowing you to see your environment. Hmm I will experiment.

I have an elite strap with battery but did not test it yet. Before I bought the quest 2 I watched a lot of youtube reviews (because it's my first vr headset) and almost all reviewers said the elite strap was a nice addition. I wonder why nobody of the reviewers managed to crack the elite strap. Did they get a better one?

The seller is kind enough to provide the 3d print file on thingiverse for free. But he said his design doesn't have enough thickness for severe prescriptions like mine. I paid $44 for my 16.4ft active USB C to USB C CableMatters cable, does 5gbps. 49 doesnt seem like much of a better deal unless it's like 25ft lmao.

Thanks, a local Argos had one too, picking up later. Anyone given any thought to the best way to share their device safely? Thinking specifically about CV and passing round a device with a sweaty sponge they have to put on their face, probably not the best idea at the moment. This is the main reason I have purchased the Fit Pack, two more that can be used for showing family and friends. Is there a good sponge cleaning regime??

Either a VR Cover which is made of fake leather and easy to wipe, or a cheap silicon cover when they come out. Both very good options for sharing as can be easily wiped with some antibacterial tissues.

Isn't the fact that you have glasses affecting the FOV? Don't you have to put that glasses spacer in that moves your eyes further from the lenses? I haven't seen this covered if you've already discussed it.

I actually did the tests with and without and it made no difference apart from being harder to read the numbers without glasses.

I own a Elite Battery and haven't had issues with it. Approx, 15 hrs of gameplay since I've gotten it. I hope I'm one of the lucky ones and I ordered from Amazon. I have a Q1 with a DAS that I'm considering porting over. As for facial interfaces, I'm waiting on VR Cover :(

You would think the elite battery straps that are breaking now would still be under some kind of warranty, and/or Facebook would just replace them if they are defective. I have the battery one, and haven't had issues so far, but I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it.

Yeah same I haven’t had any issues with my elite battery strap. I always loosen the dial before taking it off though. It’s also possible that it was just a bad batch of straps but not all are affected.

Do you think the lens light blockers are capable of scratching glasses?

I think the narrow facial interface is for people with heads shaped like a tapered poo. I have had the elite battery strap on pre order since day one, so these breakages concern me. I don't have a problem with the standard strap as such, but more with the pressure on my face. I was hoping the battery on the elite strap would balance that out. I certainly won't be over tightening it. Otherwise I could cancel my order and wait for a halo strap which would solve everything. The whole situation is so disappointing though. I have been able to use just about everything VR headset at my job, which has given me a good basis of understanding of what I want from my own personal VR set up, and the Quest 2 appeared to it. I just want to play fun games with no hassle with friends. We've done all our faffing with older headsets, graphics cards and light houses at work. I want to show up at my friend with everything in a neat carry case in one hand and my beers in the other. I don't want uncomfortable straps, breaking straps, IPD issues or chrome casting problems. Is that too much to ask? The Oculus promo videos told a different story. I should have paid more attention to Carmack's dialogue on launch day, but I probably would have ignored him. Don't get me wrong, I am well pleased with my Quest 2, but I sense more disappointment on the horizon. All the best, Rich in Sweden.

@@VRCauldron I am digital sculptor in the Automotive business, formerly a clay modeller. We are heavily investing in VR for viewing exterior and interior concepts, and trying/testing modelling in VR. We are mostly using Valve Index right now for that. We are also using MR for safety testing where we can, for example, superimpose an animal crossing the road and test the drivers reactions. We use Vario headsets for that.

Now I've had it for a while It is definitely a great upgrade from my original Rift, I am playing Population One almost every day now!

There is 2 options. Eather make strap stronger or strap holders easyer to turn. That's making problems headsets strap holders are too tight! If Oculus replace to same strap design it's question of time when new will snap! It's best for company and customers to refund it without chance of replacing it and wait for upgraded version.

Oculus John car he said the quest 2 is the same fov as the quest 1

Hopefully they recall the elite straps

Lens fogging generally happens because your head is hot and is close enough to the cold lenses to cause them to fog up. You could try the glasses spacer to put a bit of distance between you and the lenses. It's all about distance and the heat difference. You could try heating the lenses over a radiator. I used to wear my gear vr on my head for 15 mins before I wanted to use it but it's annoying having to do that.

I decided to hold off on getting the elite battery strap and waiting for 3rd party options that'll probably be like £50 cheaper (with a 3rd party carry case too).

I was thinking about that too, but I'm glad I splurged on it because I honestly couldn't stay in the headset long with the stock strap. The elite strap is so much more comfortable. Having said that, there is a good chance I'll upgrade to one of the 3rd party options once they start coming out and there are some comparison reviews. I can totally understand why people would wait, but for me it was worth the $ to be comfortable until something better comes out....

Instead I went with the DAS, and bought a Vive Cosmos pelican case, it's literally PERFECT for the FrankenQuest2 mod, I mean PERFECT lol. Only $42 for the case. Sucks though, cause now I've gotta wait until those adapters for the FrankenQuest2 mod become available again to order :/.

Just use a HIJIAO Quest 1 pad from Amazon, works brilliantly. Not going to bother with the elite strap now, no point

60+ hours of gameplay so far and my elite strap is fine, but it worries me that it's a ticking time bomb. jan 21 return window with amazon so at least it will be easy to return if needed. Oculus seem to have taken it off sale now, maybe for a recall?

The only reason I got an elite strap instead of waiting for a 3rd party halo strap is because a halo strap won't fit in any carry case. And it will take about a month for one to arrive. Just be careful I guess.

Yeah that's one reason i didn't get a halo for quest 1. The other is that I don't really like halos which is why I'm disappointed about these breakages.

I would get the fit pack but its $59aud here and I'd rather wait to see what VR Cover comes up with, or one of the other many other companies doing face covers. Me personally, I prefer to get one that can breath better via vent holes etc like what I had on Quest-1 (thought the sponge cover was a bit thin).

my elite battery strap has already gotten a crack after only 3 days of super light use. was babying it following all the precautions and I went to put my headset on today and theres a crack. I don't think this is a matter of being careful, it's something that simply will happen

You were standing at the same distance from the menu screen both times right? If you didn't reset your view each time you may have changed position between tests, I'm sure you probably did I'm just making sure

@@flatbat13 what I don't know though is the actual increase in angle. It might actually be the result of 2 degrees extra but it feels like more.

@@VRCauldron if you have a free wall maybe you could mark it with masking tape irl and use the pass through camera to get an exact measurement? No sure how the video feed is processed tho that might not work

@@VRCauldron one of my first games I assumed you could melee, so tried pistol whipping someone when I ran out of ammo... I must have looked like a right pillock charging him and flapping at him like a manta ray. needless to say I died. I just added you (dreadpirateflappy) hope to see you on there soon. :)

the fov on the Quest 2 seems alot better and wider than the Quest 1 especially with the elite strap, after using the Quest 2, I can't go back to the Quest 1, the fov on the Quest 1 seems to small and narrow and has to much of a binocular effect, and the screen resolution is crap compared to the Quest 2, might as well just use my Quest 1 as a paper weight now

Yea, the strap can get your eyes closer, so can have a better FOV. In my case, with the regular strap my eyelashes almost touch the lenses, so I can't get any closer than that.

Interesting. I think I might also find that wider mask better, as the original doesn't hug my face enough. I can see 3 other issues though, in addition to those you mentioned. (1) I can already see the edges of the screen on all IPDs, so this might only make matters worse. (2) I want a silicone mask when someone starts making them for the Q2, and a non-standard one might be more difficult to find/expensive. (3) I've forgotten No.3! Damnit! BTW, I noticed we had a friend in common, so I found your ID and sent you a friend request. In Oculus, I'm War_Radish, if you feel like accepting. PS. My Elite strap is uncracked so far. Hope they send me a new model anyway, as a spare! :D

Nobody mentions that Oculus has terrible customer service. I'd bought a new OG headset but it had some stuck pixels. It's been 2 months of going back and forth with Oculus to finally get an RMA and there is a 90% chance they will replace it with another used device(refurbished). I still haven't gotten my VR headset. Don't buy anything from Facebook/Oculus. There are many more people like me, just check the reviews. If you have a Quest 2 expect the same treatment.

If you put in the glasses spacer, even if you don't wear glasses, the god rays become way less

Are you talking about the red and blue ones or the ones from the fit pack? Oh I think you mean the one that comes with the headset for the face plate. I did notice that if I pull the quest off my face just a bit, god rays are way less, but the FOV decreases a bit, so I guess compromises.

I think the "vr cover" is one of the most highly recommended accessories for oculus quest 2, and unfortunately you cannot use the Fit Pack with that.

You can use the light blockers but yeah since it's a facial interface you need to choose. Hopefully the vr cover is the right size for you.

It’s ironic how Facebook made the stock strap so poor you needed to buy an elite strap and then that strap is not fit for purpose. On the plus side having made the strap easily replaceable it won’t be long before third party makers can produce something cheaper and better!

good thing oculus didint manage to send my product in time , so i cancel it and rebuy it on amazon and guess what ill got it soon already . And instead of taking the elite strap i took the ''vive audio strap'' with adaptor . All i need is a baterie now , all those cheap 3rd party got random review i dont know wich one to buy .

I cant buy the quest 2 due to IPD... so dumb that they don't have a slider, my ipd is 66 and I've read in forums that users with 66 ipd like me are having issues with it being blurry

66 might be ok. You could try 'setting 2.5' too. If you buy from amazon it's really easy to send back if you need to.

I got like 5 different IPD results from different eye tests in different places lol. They vary from 62 to 65. I did a test on a phone app and got 66, even though I am 5'6'' and don't have a big head. I do have a clearer image on setting 3 or in between 2 and 3, so you should be fine. When you adjust the lenses, the screen image adjusts as well, but not only for the 3 settings, it has at least 5 and you can see that if you push the lenses while you have it on your face.

My IPD is 56, so I'm also outside the default settings. The only thing I've really noticed is sometimes I get some chromatic aberration (especially when there is high contrast), but it is not too bad and is definitely still usable/enjoyable. I do really hope that in future headsets they allow for more range and accuracy in the IPD settings though, so that everyone can have the optimal experience. I'd be willing to pay a little more for better IPD adjustment and better black levels (but that's a whole other topic)...

There is a video of a guy with a halo strap for the quest 2 one and it’s literally the quest 2 one and it’s only gonna be $30 I think

Yep, go Frankenquest or wait a while I'm sure some clever clogs will be along with a better cheaper option. I cancelled my pre-ordered battery strap and have gone Frankenquest with a 10k mah battery(Oculus battery strap is only 5k mah) . An all round better solution right now. Comfort, top notch built in audio without having to wear bulky headphones and proven durability.

People are tightening the straps too much, or are over handling the straps with too much force. That's the only reason that they're snapping. Just take it easy on your devices and everything should be cool. My Elite Battery Strap is perfect, with no issues.

You are right, although at their cost they should be bomb proof. I've not heard any reports of HTC deluxe audio (Frankenquest) straps breaking which have been around along time, they appear to be a better quality product and solution given they cost roughly the same IMHO.

The thing is this product is going into the hands of non enthusiasts, most of if not all of the people on readit are VR people the general public on the other hand is a different beast, you can give them a steel ball bearing and they will find a way to break it. The point is they should be made so they cannot be over tightened they should be engineered better especially at their cost. At £120.00 the thing should better quality, just by looking at it, it looks flimsy.

@@VRCauldron it should be a non issue, there should be a mechanism in place to prevent over tightening. £120 for something you can over tighten and snap by hand, thats just ridiculous.

Pre ordered my quest 2 and it still hasn't shipped. Legit thinking of canceling my order and buying one in person. I hate when they sell more than they have in stock😡😡😡 has anyone else had this problem??
