I will start some thought provoking comment to make you begin to think critically: Zuheir Mohsen of the PLO: "The Palestinian people does not exist … there is no differences between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians, and Lebanese", though Palestinian identity would be emphasised for political reasons. In a March 1977 interview with the Dutch newspaper Trouw he stated that "between Jordanians, Palestinians, Syrians and Lebanese there are no differences. We are all part of one people, the Arab nation [...] Just for political reasons we carefully underwrite our Palestinian identity. Only a pity the UN has about as much credibility, still less power, on the geopolitical stage than Sesame Street Productions. The UN can be likened to an anxious old aunty who never grew out of the ridiculous idealism of her hippie heyday. Even when it is given peacekeeping duties, it ends in partisan posturing, followed inevitably by cowardice and complete capitulation when things hot up. Costly club membership, too, wherein the main activity is endless black tie bun fights in between dull, sanctimonious speeches and negotiating bribes for votes. Nothing whatsover united about it.

Just a question on something that I didn’t understand even though I tried to re-listen to bits!! When he says some civilians crossed the border that night, who does he mean and from which direction? And how did that impact the breakdown of the numbers? I didn’t get that bit. Very interesting documentary though. It’s tempting to believe all of it, is it that reliable? I’m trying to be healthily skeptical of things, of course AJ has a particularly special relationship with Israel, let’s just say it like that, but this seems pretty legit???

Civilians from Gaza crossed into Israel. Not all were armed or ready to kill, just the opportunity to see what’s on the other side of the fence. I think from a world away you will never get the whole truth from either side, which is disappointing. I suggest looking at both leaning media and come up with your own conclusions.

'Hamas were taken by surprise as to the scale of what they did'. What a load of apologia for Hamas' carefully planned out attack, and the role they played in killing civilians. You can make all the excuses for Hamas that you want, but the truth will come out in time, and I don't think that those trying to take away from the severity and horror of that day will stand in good light in the end, but that's just my opinion. Al Jazeera is a product of the Qatari government. That's fine, but don't blame the victims and try to minimize that day of horror, please.
