Ochun / Oshun / Osun the Yoruba Goddess of Love, Wealth, and the Truth about her : Our Roots Podcast

Ойын-сауық

Ifa and Santeria are at the forefront of popular culture. Oshun has become the most notable orisha because of her affiliation with love, money, and happiness; but most wouldn’t expect the other aspect of her personality to be the complete opposite. In This video Joseph Baba Ifa and Erica Oshun Poroye sit down to discuss the little known facts about their guardian orisha. If you want to really know who Oshun is, the characteristics of her children, her different paths, and about her turbulent relationship with Shango, you have to watch this video!

Osun to me is the most msunderstood orisha, because people paint her as this attention go getter, vain, superficial deity, but her story of cleaning the wash cloth at the river and sacrificing herself to protect her sister Oya or Yemaya from this man (in some Cuban sect) and losing her hair from the stress so her sisters gave their own hair to make her feel better after hearing what she had done. "You are a queen and queens always have a crown." The stories paint her so differently, so I am always curious about knowing more about her. Can't wait when you get into Eleggua/Eshu. 🥰That orisha saved me from so much.

Ololodi is pretty popular, im also crowned that specific camino. It’s a warrior aspect and as well as a diviner. Her animal in this aspect is the owl. This camino is very close to ifa and orula, and has knowledge on how to divine ifa. I would suggest on getting this that a babalawo would use and get it blessed then place it with her as well as a cowbell amongst other things that suit her.

Life is sooo amazing and crazy. I remember going to a botanica last May to go to Disney in Orlando. I remember shopping and coming to TEARS Hearing the drumming in the botanica for Oshun. I bought a lot of stuff too including this amazing Oshun perfume. As I was cleaning my room I found the business card from the botanica having no idea it was you guys!!! That is insane! Ive been watching Joseph on TikTok for months as well as youtube never noticing until today omg! Que bonita!

I actually NEVER heard ANYTHING even remotely nice about her at all, and it is messed up cause what if you are a Woman who might be able to use help from her but now all the talk shy you away, rather, RUNS you away from even TRYING to approach?

This is a very interesting topic. I have heard Her name mentioned a lot. I don’t think people understand the magnitude with touching things that they don’t understand. I have never practiced but the information that is being presented here is very informative. However, some of the characteristics of Her I kinda have seen in my self or actions around me. Specifically I love to smell good and know how to mix fragrance oils. The other thing is that when a man has misused my kindness, it has never one well for them. And I have gone through tough times with my son, and it pushed out the hustler in me.

As a person who was raided southern Baptist I’ve always been searching for completion in my faith walk. The way y’all described Oshun I have a lot of what I have in my personality and a lot of the things that I have had happen in my life it was like y’all were speaking on my life. I credit Omi In A Hellcat for even mentioning this faith. I wouldn’t have ever known or thought to look. But there was always a question as to who did my ancestors pray to and how will I see them in the afterlife to ask the questions

Just because my Baba Ifa's elders are Iyami elders in Ibadan, the way y'all describe Iyami is always wrong. No one in Lukumi knows what Iyami is, but you'd have to be given the true description and definition from an Iyami elder to have a glimpse of an idea of what she is and what her daughters do.
