Everytime Croc stars hovering I can only hear in my head throat singing. Such a powerful visual

i love how croc looks like some sort of ascending yoshi when he hovers. fantastic video, i love learning about games like this that have a community i never would have stumbled upon otherwise. great editing work too! :D

Fun fact, Croc was originally pitched to Nintendo as a 3D Platforming Yoshi game, but they turned developer Argonaut Software down, as they were already planning Super Mario 64. Argonaut then pivoted to Croc. Argonaut had previously worked with Nintendo on Star Fox for SNES.

@@eccentricbass3730 That being said, the hover might not actually be a glitch but a leftover piece of code.

I remember playing this as a kid, where it distinguished itself from Crash and Spyro because I had Croc on PC. Strangely, the version I played had no music, so I've never heard the soundtrack. Still don't know how I managed to get through a 3D platformer with tank controls. I wonder what 100% speedruns are like, since I remember some of the bonus Gobbos being a huge pain, especially the "move the cauldron to catch crystals" types. (I think there's only two in the game but you have to control it by strafing onto buttons and you can't miss even ONE crystal)

This game is so nostalgic for me. My grandparents had this game for us kids on PC when I was a kid and I could never get much further past the first boss and I never saved because I would just exit out of the game and just turn off the computer.

Always thought that the sand dunes in level 3 were too close to the doors and prime material for skips, but seeing the freefall on that section of level 4 was really something else. Nice thumbnail, by the way, really cute!

My god I remember this game. Holy moly I got such a nostalgia hit right now. I was so young and I couldn't remember it the name at all, and I figured I probably imagined it or confused with a random game. But it exists. My god I need to find where to play it

Considering that Croc was originally gonna be a Yoshi game, that hover mechanic might not actually be a glitch.

That Diagonal Movement is just like the SR40 and SR50 Movement in classic Doom. Instead of capping speed at 100%, the Strafing Speed just adds to the total.

That was actually one of the most fun speedruns to watch ever. All the glitches make sense visually. Not really related, but I really liked this game. Besides the awsome music which you could listen to on a CD player, I remember the instruction manual being laugh out loud funny, at least to a kid. "Rufus the Intolerant was feared by his neighbors for his name alone, but if they had known his full name was 'Rufus the Lactose Intolerant,' they would only have feared him after a big bowl of cottage cheese." For some reason that sentence always stuck with me. Dont rememeber the rest of the story.

I used to play a lot because Croc can swim, I love games with water levels or swiming mechanics, although it felt impossible to beat as a kid

you gotta do croc 2 next man. there was a really great period of community discovery and some incredible skips were found. it's the only game with an exploit called "baby surfing" that I've ever heard of.

an oversight in how it was made as well as the lack of analogue input, many people weren't used to diagonal movement when it was first introduced would be my best guess
