Oboist's Perspective on ReedGeek! | unboxing and review of the ReedGeek Bullet and DoubleGeek

Hello oboists and oboe fans! In this week's video I am unboxing and using two tools made my ReedGeek for the first time to adjust oboe reeds and to attempt to scrape an oboe reed from scratch! The tools used are the DoubleGeek Gen2 Black Diamond Set and The Bullet. Stay tuned through the entire video for my review and thoughts.
Thank you to ReedGeek for sending me these tools! Please check them out here: www.reedgeek.com

I'd like to see a video after a couple of months of use to see how you like them after figuring them out a little more for sure! As a bassoonist who hates to sharpen her knife something like this is really appealing.

The reed where you eventually nicked the corner, I kind of saw that coming, because the play-through before then sounded so clean, then you were like, "I think I'm going to try going further," and I was like, "No. It's there already. Don't get greedy."...and then you nicked it. The ReedGeek sounds like an excellent tool for adjustments on the go. Are you still using it now, two years later?

Hey Ron, great video! I’ve been thinking of getting one of these and this has ensured that it will find its way into my bassoon case. Best of luck with the channel!

Hi Ron ! Very interesting indeed ! I was looking for some explanations about the ReedGeek for oboes. But since I am French I was reading the comments in French although I quite manage in English . I don't know who translated you comments in french bur in this case, ' tip ' must not be translated by ' pourboire ' which is the extra money you give to a barman but by ' pointe ' which is the extreme end of a reed. In the same way ' reed ' is translated by 'lecture' and should have been translated by ' anches '. Confusion between reed and read !!! But that's not important if you understand english. I follow you on KZread and congratulate you for all these demos !! Friendly and oboistically yours !

Does it need to be sharpened?

Great question. I believe you cannot sharpen it yourself, but ReedGeek claims that it should for last several years with daily use.
