The way you describe the path to Hatred's Soul/Heart really makes me realise what the Hero of Kvatch went through, having to close all those portals, almost all the time by themselves. The dragonborn may be strong, and the nerevarine may be immortal, but the Hero of Kvatch has got to be the bravest, to delve into Oblivion itself over and over

Dragonborn: I slayed Alduin the World eater, Killed Miraak the first Dragonborn, and Killed an ancient falmer vampire, and I can destroy anything you throw at me by just yelling at you. Nerevarine: I destroyed the Sharmat Dagoth Ur and saved the land from the corprus disease, I also fulfilled the bloodmoon prophecy and killed the Tribunal Almelexia fulfilling the Nerevarine prophecy, there is no disease, or poison that can kill me and I am immortal. Hero of Kvatch: I am literally just a normal dude who stopped the gaping jaws of oblivion from destroying Cyrodiil, became the second coming of the divine crusader stopping another Aylied dynasty as well as killing Umaril the unfeathered permanently, then I mantled the mad god Sheogorath, stopping the daedric prince Jyggalag and the Greymarch. I think we can all agree that while two here have done many things and saved the world, one really carried the whole of mundus and oblivion on their back.

  • @__jonbud______________________

The way the Hero of Kvatch acted doesn't exactly fit the idea of bravery. They had Lucien Lachance (based on the people he previously picked it takes more than just murder to get his attention) actively keeping an eye on them as a candidate for the Dark Brotherhood after escaping from a very long prison sentence (although Valen Dreth might not be a trustworthy source of information about the length of the hero's sentence), they were oddly familiar with laws about necrophilia AND graverobbing (it comes up in dialogue with an alchemist in Skingrad and in the journal durring a side quest in the Imperial City), they became a stand-in to continue the legacy of the exceptionally violent mentally unstable legendary warrior known as Pelinal Whitestrake (who had unusual anatomy, uncanny knowledge of future events, went on crazed rampages, and made references to knowledge not usually known to the sane), then there's the fact that the hero willingly entered the madhouse that is the Shivering Isles, and most telling of all is the fact that Lord Sheogorath happily accepted the hero. (Also the hero is unaffected by magical fear from demoralizing spells/effects, but that's for gameplay reasons) Bravery wouldn't get someone into the Shivering Isles... Things like delusions of invincibility and macabre or dangerous obssessions might be enough though Depending on circumstances, going into Mehrunes Dagon's realm to fight could be considered brave or selfless by the standards of various cultures of Tamriel but going into Shegorath's would not be. There's multiple cautionary tales across Tamriel about the consequences of having anything to do with Sheogorath and even a few about the risks one takes in underestimating someone he favors. It's a widely held notion that for the sake of sanity and one's continued health, Sheogorath and those touched by him should be treated with caution or avoided. Even in the Shivering Isles, the phrase "they dance a little too close to Lord Sheogorath" is a way of calling someone foolish or irrational. That context could show why the Hero of Kvatch's decisions and thought processes might have been consistently irrational enough for them to be able to mantle Sheogorath. Funnily enough this likely annoyed Meridia and Mehrunes Dagon since it means Sheogorath (now having been the Hero of Kvatch) can now truthfully talk about personally defeating their minions and during Skyrim mentions directly witnessing the Oblivion Crisis when talking to the Dragonborn.

@@__jonbud______________________ personally I think going into Sheogorath's realm is brave in itself. It's entirely possible that THoK entered with the intention of closing it like they had closed other oblivion gates, as this is a gate to yet another oblivion realm. Ultimately the reason behind it remains to the player, as does the knowledge of necrophilia, if they're a murderer or not, etc. Personally the only things I consider main characters in elder scrolls games to have canonically done are the main quests of the base game and DLCs. As to why THoK became Sheogorath, without a God the realm would have been destroyed, causing a massive imbalance among the Gods, he keeps a lot of them in check with his shenanigans. THoK could also have been going crazy at the time as simply being in the realm too long causes madness, but ultimately I think their intentions were always good. They were a normal, probably Imperial, person, who had done wrong in the past. The Emporer gives them a second chance, and they turn a new leaf as they get pulled into the plot to save the world. Like Parthurnax says, "What is better? To be born good, or to overcome your evil nature through great effort?"

This is why I, to this very day, always say “oblivion is the game that really taught me how to play an RPG/Game!!” It wasn’t until my third restart from scratch that I created a character I was extremely proud of(Khajiit) and had learned enough about the game to be able to go through and keep all my stats under check at all times as well as be able to find and loot everything!! I mean, there was a few things in this video that I missed but, when I played this game in 2009 I have to say that I got most of them!! I’m still trying to see if there is a “soul tomato“ in Skyrim also? Haven’t found it if there is? Love Oblivion!!!

@@turismofoegaming8806 hey I see your comment is rather new so I’ll answer your question. As of now yes there are soul tomatoes in Skyrim. They were added by the mod (which is now given out with the game for free as added content) Saints and Seducers. It’s a blast to play too. The soul tomatoes are found on an alter in one of their camps IIRC. Also, the final battle is in the solitude sewers and is modeled to look *exactly* like shivering isles. The creator knocked it out of the park.

Please don't ever stop making your two hour long Elder Scrolls videos - I love them. It's also interesting how much of this stuff you'd never find just by virtue of risk/reward. Like the chest in the arena - most containers just sitting around in the Imperial City aren't going to have much in them. They give a pretty low yield. So you'd NEVER think it was worth it to go for a really difficult theft when you don't think there's going to be anything of value in there. Probably just an iron sword or shield, as far as you know.

I also find Calliben’s Grim Retort to be a retort back at Agarmir. Agarmir gathers a bunch of rather mundane things for Thoronir, meanwhile Calliben has the “last word” by hiding something sooo valuable right under his nose. It’s almost like Calliben was rooting for the player - and I’m sure he dreamed that the player would use his weapon to kill Agarmir!

One that was left out of the video is the Yellow team's arena raiment. If you collect enough paintbrushes (and I mean a lot) you can bet on a match, use your paint brushes to get over the invisible barrier where you view the fight from and you can actually get down to the arena floor and loot or kill the yellow team combatant to get their raiment. But you will need enough paintbrushes to make your way back up top as you can't fast travel out. I used to do this on Xbox and it was so neat having an item like that.

The time and effort you put in your videos keeps impressing me. I Always learn something new and it's fun to watch. No doubt a great example / inspiration for other creators too.

I love the Blackwater Blade. At high levels, it's as good as damaging as Umbra, the design is cool, and the drain endurance effect can floor enemies before they are killed.
