first, he intended to destroy the leaf, 2nd he didnt have the rennigen as its possesion was still in hands of nagato which was assigned to get 8 other bijuus, obito wanted to tame the kyuubi inside him til then, but he knew minato wont be easy so he just immediatly crashed the bijuu and due to his intentions it is 2 birds by 1 rock. though minato seperated him from the bijuu.

Minato would better bring Naruto to the other place instead of sacrifice his body

His main plan was to capture the Kyuubi, but then we see him coming to Minato from behind to kill him. I think he wanted to take revenge on Minato for what happened to Rin. Poor Minato he was a genius that died young. He surpassed his Sensei and his Sensei's Sensei at young age, then had to die because of some psychopath.

@@jaja3914 He just captured it and then used it for his revenge right after, he wasn't planning to give the nine tails away but Minato seperated the nine tails from him at 7:40 Otherwise Obito would have killed Minato, destroyed Konoha and went back with the nine tails.
