My great-grandfather was an air raid warden in Minnesota during WW2. According to family lore, he took his job very seriously, even though when you look back on it, Minnesota was at no risk for a bomber attack.

When the war broke out my great grandfather was hot to trot about enlisting. Fortunately for him but maybe not for his pride, his bad eyesight kept him out of the service but he was assigned the job of air raid warden in the Boston area.
