Obesity is a medical condition in which excess body fat has accumulated to an extent that it may have a negative effect on health. People are generally considered obese when their body mass index (BMI), a measurement obtained by dividing a person's weight by the square of the person's height, is over 30 kg/m2; the range 25-30 kg/m2 is defined as overweight.Some East Asian countries use lower values. Obesity increases the likelihood of various diseases and conditions, particularly cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes, obstructive sleep apnea, certain types of cancer, osteoarthritis, and depression.
Obesity is most commonly caused by a combination of excessive food intake, lack of physical activity, and genetic susceptibility. A few cases are caused primarily by genes, endocrine disorders, medications, or mental disorder. The view that obese people eat little yet gain weight due to a slow metabolism is not medically supported. On average, obese people have a greater energy expenditure than their normal counterparts due to the energy required to maintain an increased body mass.

    I saw that you included medications as a source of weight gain, and this is so true and highly overlooked by many. There are 3 other potential causes, though rare, that can cause obesity as well; 1. Tumors on pituitary glands 2. Thyroid disorder 3. Hormonal disorders affecting dopamine, grehlin, leptin, & cortisol My advice to any doctor treating a *morbidly* obese patient, is a full lab assessment and full body MRI. Each "morbidly" obese patient is different and have varying determining factors to their particular body.

    Thank you! We have some really large members at our church. I used to feel guilty less often but since turning to Christ and church groups I have started to feel guilty more often. When driving away from Jesus I feel more confident but when returning to church, the guilt comes back. At church we bring it up sometimes and our group agreed that part of faith is to celebrate our guilt, because it keeps us clean and beneath Him. Encouraging guilt is be part of our Christian culture that we inherited. I would not be ashamed of guilt as it is part of being a good Christian, and those that are not guilty might not be forgiven and thus might not reach heaven. I myself often have guilty feelings of not enough faith in God but I use this guilt to ask for forgiveness so I can be saved. I don’t think we should try to overcome our guilt but recognise it as part of being a Christian, even if it is difficult to live with. Even if we feel worse with this guilt, it I better to have it and know that we are true Christians. It brings us down, but it brings us together. Together, and down. Only then we can be saved. Being fat, well I’m bot fat to myself but if you choose to identify 558 pounds as fat, then that is your choice, but being like this does make me feel guilt but from my faith I think guilt is not an unholy feeling even if it means pain. It is like turning your cheek when struck as we are taught and deeply a part of our faith of tolerance our sadness and sickliness - including being large. Faith also why I love America 🇺🇸 and we are unique here, and an exception in the world that can spread faith to others to help them to tolerate guilt of sin, guilt of leaning away, and guilt of being large.

    Between ages four and seventeen, I was heavily overweight. Aged eleven, mild breach of a medically prescribed diet made me faint. At seventeen, I lost five stone by counting calories. However, some nights, having run out of calories, I forced myself to go hungry - *I can't advise how safe this was*. Exercise alone, while healthy in moderation, doesn't burn enough calories for weight loss. Rob Grant's "Fat" (2006) says past age sixty five, being overweight by even forty pounds improves life expectancy; that cholesterol can't actually enter the bloodstream, and epidemiology standards have lowered to a point where just about anything can be "proven" to cause just about anything else. Apparently, weight is gained not simply through blatant gorging, but by even slight calorific excess. Some skinny people eat loads. Some brains, it's thought (such as on the autistic spectrum) don't process pleasurable sensation as closely, so feel a need to eat more.

    Technically it's 25-30 being overweight for men with 30 + being obese. 23.8 to 28.6 for women with 28.6 + being obese. 20 to 25 would be healthy range for a man. 18.7 to 23.8 would be healthy for a girl. That's "Technically speaking" tho. BMI isn't 100 percent accurate for everyone but for the general population it's not a bad tool to use as studies show that more people who stay within these ranges that don't excessively drink, smoke, abuse drugs or have major mental health issues tend to live longer.

    Oh what a day I remember on 2016 my weight was 210 pounds for some reasons I desided to take over exercising for 4 month until I reached 143 on 2019 but on 2022 I became the same the past even worse which is 260 pound 😭

    Last year I got totally addiced to junk food the more I fed the craving the more I craved. When I whent to the Doctors he looked at my massively increased waist line he got the scales out I had gained 140lbs of pure fat in 140lbs. Very scary

    Yes. That’s why BMI is inaccurate. It doesn’t account for things like how broad you are or how your body shape is. It only bases your BMI off of weight and height.

    Fat passes through your body naturally through pee/poop, exhaling while working out, and sweating. I would recommend cutting down/out sodas and high surgery foods/drinks. I know it’s hard to control everything you eat depending on the household, but choosing to not consume Junk food and sodas can help if you eat those things. It’s ok to have it occasionally but you shouldn’t eat it 24/7 every single day, moderation is key. Water can and is your best friend, research how much water you should drink every day and strive to drink close to that amount, don’t worry about chugging water especially when your busy with school cause you will have to pee, a LOT. And start implementing 45mins at least of cardio/exercises, that would be walking, jogging, going up and down the stairs, running in place, jumping jacks ect. As long as your moving and your heart rate is raised, that’s good. I recommend grow with jo, she has a lot of relatively easy cardio workout videos that require no equipment. To lose weight in major areas, you must workout your body fully, not just targeting abs or legs or arms. Full body. When starting out, feel free to do this every other day, and between on rest days, MAKE SURE YOU STRETCH. It is very important that you improve your flexibility and to ensure the grow of your muscles and the mobility of your joints. Make sure you stretch before and a bit after workouts so you don’t hurt yourself. Good luck young human.

    More than likely, people won't be going out of their way to make fun of your weight. I would recommend trying not to let this fear stop you from living life. Easier said than done, I know. Tons of people are fat, so it is not like people will single you out to make fun of. If someone does start to make fun of you, I recommend to try not to let it bother you. The way I see it, their opinion of me doesn't matter. If you are OK with being fat or chubby, don't let bullies get inside your head. There is a difference between losing weight for you health, and losing weight because of being self conscious. worrying what others think of you will only make your life worse. Again, easier said than done, but I recommend at least trying to keep this in mind.

    Don't fall for it. My BMI is in the obesity II class at 36. I don't look like I'm 260 (now 250). The numbers don't lie though. I got here because I didn't look fat. Don't fall for the eye test. From my understanding 25 BMI is not obese but overweight perhaps.

    Yes, you BMI is 29.8 you are very close too obese. Search up BMI calculator and 160cm is 5.2 and 71 kg is 162 pounds, that is considered very over weight and close to obese. For normal weight you have to under 25 BMI. My BMI is 24.2, I am 4 10 and 116 Pounds and 53 kg that is not obese or over weight it is considered normal weight and healthy weight. Hope you have a great day. A tip is stay away from high calorie foods, and get in calorie deficit. Hope you stay healthy!

    I eat 5+ times a day (besides my dessert and other small meals) but I'm still thin (not skeleton thin but ectomorph kind of thin). Docotors have got it all wrong - there are several factors that cause obesity besides overeating... I am a living witness (and no, I don't have HIV)
