Oak Creek Canyon - Wild Brown Trout (Sedona, AZ)
As a brief respite from my time in the 'dry heat' desert hellscape known as Scottsdale (AZ), I found myself up in the beautiful, majestic, and incredible red rock scenery in and around Sedona. Entering into the Oak Creek Canyon, I began fishing this wonderful spring-fed Wild Brown Trout fishery. Catching 10 or so Wild Browns up to 10 or 11 inches as well as a Stocked Bow over the course of a few hours (using single barbless hook spinners), I cannot say enough good things about Oak Creek and the surrounding area. Whether driving through Coconino National Forest, hiking through the Oak Creek Wilderness Areas, fishing Oak Creek, or walking the quaint (but tourist-y) streets of Sedona, I had a truly unforgettable time.

Yep, very underrated trout fishing in Northern AZ!
It's a great creek to fish with a Tenkara fly rod . There are a lot of big browns there too .

Heck yeah! I've caught a 16, 17, and 18 inch brownie out of there... And I know they get bigger!
Very Nice!
“hands are soppin wet” “let’s get him right out of here” “super ethical” dude i can’t get enough of your videos 🤣 incredibly entertaining! great catches my friend.

Thanks man. Appreciate it. Glad you see the humor. I purposefully emphasize all of that stuff to troll (but also I believe in it). Thanks again dude!

oh hell yeah man, i believe in it too. keep preaching (and trolling lol) ethical fishing techniques 💪
Dude you were in a couple of beautiful holes! You walked thru them? Waters clear they will see you, so get above them right when the sun starts to heat the water, and float the spinner/fly down to them. Or when it gets hot get they sorta gather in the shade, in some of the deep pools, so you have to go down to them with eggs or worms. They used to stock the heck out of that creek with Rainbows, that you would catch all day with power bait, cheating but GOOD eating. This was 25+ years ago no idea how it is now.
haven’t fished Sedona or arizona. Badass

We got some pretty awesome trout fishing in Northern AZ!!
I know this is old but when I've fished those areas I've just waded up the creek in the private property areas. As far as I understand the private property is the area off the creek and not the creek itself. Private property may extend to the water but usually doesn't include the water, stay in the water and you're good.

So I'm from Pennsylvania and I don't like to mess with private property in other states just in case. Private property is the bedrock.
Nice trout release on first one!
Banjo Bill or Bootlegger access here? Nice video brother.
They don't own the waterway, just the land to the water
What month was this ? And I appreciate fellow fishermen that understand the concept of giving space to other fishermen. So many people in AZ that fish for trout dont understand this and will toss a line right next to you. Cool vid

Hey Joe - this was early May. Water was low but still productive.
Hey man love the video. Do you know where along the creek that deep pool was you caught that nice Bow? I’ve been fishing there recently and that looks like a great hole

So if I recall correctly, I'm pretty sure it was right up past the West Fork Oak Creek trailhead before the Cave Springs Campground (from looking at Google maps). If you park at West Fork and work up you should get there pretty quickly. They definitely stock right there, lots of bows.

Sad turn of events.
Also the rare gila
Those are fingerling trout. Your from Pennsylvania you know not alot of places can compete with the great lakes fishery
You lost me at spinners!

Yeah, we are all scumbags...us that use single barbless hook spinners instead of fly fishing (which I also do 50% of the time)

why does anyone care? lol. let him fish how he wants, especially with the single barbless hooks. it makes no difference.
You need to ditch that spinning rod and spinners with "single barbless hooks". Commit yourself to fly fishing bro.

I couldn’t have said it better myself 😂. And I hate to break it to this tourist but Oak Creek is stocked & heavily pressured, not a “wild trout fishery.” There are wild brown but far and few between.
