Another disappointing year of Judging, the women of AHA did a spectacular job in their performance of Hula Kaliko’s! What exactly are these so called Judges looking for as it certainly not individual interpretation of the Hula by the Kumu! I just wonder what Aunties Dorothy, Edith and Uncle Keoki think!

I love Kumu Kealiʻihoʻomalu and Hālau AHA. Although his style of hula is extravagant, it is untraditional and strays away from one of the key components for a "winner" in the eyes of the judges. Hālaua Ka Lā ʻŌnohi Mai O Haʻeʻhaʻe deserved every bit of points again, don't say it's a disappointment on the judgeʻs part because it certainly is not. These judges are all Kumu Hula who's had YEARS of experience with hula and ALL aspects surrounding it. Do you have credentials to be a judge? I believe not. Aloha.

@@Kava650 Um... these judges are prestigious kumu hula who can olelo, know the moolelo behind each hula, mele, oli, costumes, etc. Merrie Monarch is judged off of proper critique and authenticity, not whatever looks cool. So no, people shouldn't judge, only judges were know what they are watching.

@@ikaikaxkeahi you gotta stop living in the past kumu or not. I’m Tongan who grew up in the mainland. Every generation since my grandfather first migrated learn to adapt and evolve the culture. Same goes for Tahitian, Samoan the rest of polynesia. I can feel the mana when kumu Mark Ho’omalu chants. I did hula the traditional way as a keiki it’s beautiful, but times are changing. Thanks for the input Aloha 🤙🏽
