Internationally acclaimed Norwegian-born singer, Sissel, performed the Swedish folk melody "O store gud" ("How Great Thou Art"), arranged by Håkon Iversen, during the 2019 Pioneer Day Concert with The Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square.
Lyrics:
O store Gud, när jag den värld beskådar,
Som du har skapat med ditt all maktsord,
Hur där din visdom väver livets trådar,
Och alla väsen mättas vid ditt bord:
Då brister Själen ut i lovsångs ljud:
O stora Gud, O stora Gud!
Då brister själen ut i lovsångs ljud:
O store Gud, o store Gud!
O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout the universe displayed;
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee:
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee:
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
How great Thou art! How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Audiences still have not forgotten Sissel’s stunning performances at the Choir and Orchestra’s 2006 Christmas concerts and still regard her as one of the favorite guests of the Choir. The concert was shown in 2007 on PBS stations to 4 million viewers around the country. The Christmas CD, Spirit of the Season, was #1 on Billboard’s Classical chart for nine weeks and was nominated for two Grammy® awards.

It's very precious to me, being a Swede, that she is first singing in Swedish! This song was originally written in Swedish by pastor Carl Boberg in the small town where I grew up!
my mother loved Sissel and this wonderful song....she died when she 96 years old and almost every day she would sing this song with a very weak voice but a very strong soul....we sang this song in her funeral....hearing this song brings all these memories back and a lot of tears too

My grandfather's parents were born in Sweden. He loved this hymn.
What a great honor for all of Norway that they invited our Sissel to sing with them again.
Wheb Notre Dame in Paris was in flames we began to see all we had lost when we abandoned the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
"How great thou art" is a version of this, which is the Swedish original with words by Swedish poet and reverend Carl Boberg. Only many years later and after many translations into other languages, did the English one come to us as we know it today.

This is truly the greatest version of How great thou art I have heard. Simply a PERFECT performance by both Sissel and the orchestra. Beautiful! ❤ First Sissel sings in swedish if anyone wondered.

The best version ever
A young lady sang this song at my missionary farewell when I was leaving for a mission in Sweden. I did not know that the song was written by a Swedish composer. I am glad that she sang the first verse in Swedish. Då brister själen ut i lovsångsljud: O store Gud! O store Gud!
Saw this concert in person, hard to believe it was live and not a recording. Truly one of the best Pioneer concerts of all time.

I was in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, 1985 for my first real Christmas. This song brought a new light into my blood, I felt a strange warm hitting my feet, and flow up. That's my first Christmas.
I think God's angels are singing with you.... beautiful 🕎
Tears in any language , no matter your faith or belief .
Crystal clear and beautiful voice. Sissel is an awesome singer. I love her voice more than anything else. Greatings to You Sissel from Finnish Lapland....We love You ❤❤❤❤❤ The best crossover soprano in whole World.❤❤ This song means a lot to me when times are hard and no light in sight. I pray when I listen Sissel singing this song. ❤❤

Finnish Lapland? Nope, she is from Bergen on the western coast of Norway. By the way, did you know that Sissel was featured on seven of the albums tracks and is often referred to as 'the voice of Titanic. ' Sissel has performed on several occasions with The Tabernacle Choir.
I was grateful to see the camera pan over the orchestra members. The lovely voice of Ms Sissel, who would not be moved? But didn't the musicians warm your heart and edify your spirit as they did mine?
Jesus you are the most beautiful living ever I have seen your eyes Soo innocent so beautiful Soo deep whit love no one can compare your inner beauty I have seen you and love you above everything at erth
Have you ever had an angel sing for you---Sissel is that angel
The original Swedish (and indeed some other translations of this song) are so much more powerful than this popular translation... the chorus is more like "And then my soul bursts forth in sound of praise - O Great God!"... what a powerful thing to sing!

Yes,true. But there's more to it with Sissel. Her ability to put a song over is way better than average, and no doubt it is so because she is a sincere singer and in the case of faith songs, she is a believer. It gives her an advantage over other great singers.
