Kishore Kumar was the brother of Ashok Kumar (who was a famous actor in Bollywood at that time). He never had a formal training in Indian Classical and that's the most amazing and beautiful fact about Kishore Kumar. He had a natural voice and he brought yodelling in his songs and made them hugely popular in Indian songs which is essentially a Western thing. Also, Kishore Kumar actually wanted to pursue acting but his elder brother Ashok Kumar told him to pursue singing(and we are fortunate that his brother told him to do so) and that's why Kishore Kumar pursued both acting and singing due to which he's known as the "Elvis Presley of India". Kishore Kumar is probably the GREATEST singer India has ever had after our independence. He's literally the idol of almost every singer who came after him. You should DEFINITELY check out his song Main Hoon Jhum Jhum Jhumroo to fully understand what he's actually capable of. It's probably the hardest song in Bollywood till now because the amount of variations that Kishore Kumar has done in this song is absolutely insane. Another song like this Pag Ghungroo from the movie Namak Halaal starring the megastar of Indian Cinema Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. That song is also insane because of the amount of variations that Kishore Kumar has done in it. Kishore Kumar has himself said that Pag Ghungroo is probably the toughest song in his singing career. Unfortunately, this legend passed away at the tender age of 58 but his songs remain in our hearts forever 🙏🙏 P. S. Kishore Kumar was a Bengali too 😀😀his full name is Kishore Kumar Ganguly 👍

Classically untrained the, not completely untrained. He was self trained. There is nothing like untrained when you sing that well. Same was the case with KK sir too

I think SD Burman had played a big role in Kishore Kumar singing career he not only have him songs for Dev Anand but also trained him how to perfect his singing and helped him to come out of saigal style singing infact Rafi and Mukesh also had very limited classical training only Lata and Mannaday were very much trained in classical music

So glad you finally listened to Mohammad Rafi. Even the legend that is Lata Mangeshkar acknowledged him as the greatest Bollywood playback singer ever as did Kishore Kumar. Rafi lived each word that he sang & not just sing the word. No one could emote like he did. Sadly he passed away in 1980. Every male was inspired by him; Sonu Nigam to name just one. Rafi could sing every emotion & genre. Check out ‘Jaan Pehchan Hai’ from the film Gumnaam. It was used in worldwide adverts for Heineken beer and became widely known around the world. So many non Indian artists have covered it and sang it in Hindi, what a lovely tribute; there are rock, country, jazz, alternative versions all on KZread.

The sad thing is that whenever one of these singers is mentioned, it starts up a whole new debate on who was better, every single time. The were Legends in their own time and they always will be. Both have left a remarkable legacy behind them, and they shared a very loving freindship, a lot of mutual respect. They sang many duets together, a lot of which went on to become classics. There was a few cases when Kishore Kumar was given a song to sing, but Kishore Kumar new his limitations, and if he knew he could not do justice to the song, HE Himself suggested to the music director that only Mohd Rafi can sing this, and no one else, that's the kind of friendship they had. It's a pointless and silly debate, both singers were blessed with beautiful voices, and their names are Legendary. If I can suggest a duet of these two, Please could you react to one of my favourites, the song is called "EK RAASTA, DO RAHI" from the movie Ram Balram, its an absolute favourite of mine, and I hope and pray you do get a chance to do a video on it.
