O Holy Night - The Creation of an Icon from Concept to Completion

This icon of the Nativity of Christ was inspired by the icon of the Nativity found above the altar in the Grotto of the Nativity in Bethlehem, depicting the birth of Jesus with the angels, wise men, and shepherds. The Blessed Virgin Mary and St. Joseph look on with wonder and adoration.
The video shows examples used in the conceptualization of the icon, and the various stages in the painting of the icon, some in time-lapse photography.

Beautiful. Thank you. The only problem I have with all of your “baby” Jesus paintings is that He was a baby not a little boy. I won’t ever buy any of those that are like that… no matter how much I like it.

He seems more like a toddler than a little boy. But, you still got a point.

I’m so sorry that I feel this way. The artwork is beautiful and I truly like it. It’s just that baby Jesus belongs in the manger not toddler/little boy.

In iconography the tradition is to combine youth with Divinity, to show a fully conscious being in a young body. It is not meant to be naturalistic, but symbolic. Thanks for your comment.
