"O Deutschland Hoch in Ehren" - German Patriotic Anthem
A patriotic German song made in 1859 just before German unification, it was one of the most popular patriotic songs of its time and was in use well into the Weimar Republic, however after the 40s the song fell out of use due to uhhh... well, you know.

Meine Oma ist 1945 aus Schlesien geflohen, da war sie 17. Sie kam nach Sachsen und war im Dorf das böse Flüchtlingsmädchen. Deutsche welche Deutsche wegen ihrer Herkunft diskriminierten, habe ich auch schon von anderen gehört. Als Mädchen hätte sie den Hof ihrer Eltern sowieso verlassen müssen, da dieser immer der erst geborene Sohn bekam. Nach 1990 ging sie in ihre alte Heimat, besuchte diesen Hof und stand am Zauntor. Sie gab den Leuten selbst gebackene Keckse, ein alten Foto von diesem Ort und freute sich das es noch gepflegt wurde. Sie hatte keine Absichten dieses Land wieder für sich zu beanspruchen, sie hatte erst in Sachsen und später in Brandenburg mit einem zweiten Mann ein neues Leben gehabt. 2014 starb sie mit 86. Ruhe in Frieden Oma und Frieden allen Menschen anstatt Krieg wegen dem Boden auf den wir leben.

Correct, "Ye Mariners of England", and this song was composed by Henry Hugh Pierson, an Englishman living in Germany who set "Ye Mariners of England" to music, and Ludwig Bauer, a German composer who wrote the lyrics, and later married Pierson's stepdaughter.

I'm a Pole with some German ancestry in me and I'm not sure why but this particular version of the song made me cry my heart out. Something about the way its sung is just so emotion-evoking it brought me to my core. It's beautiful, almost like one family singing about how they want to stay together and united through hard times. @@seronymus I don't like the state of my country today, but we'd be so much worse off if we aligned with the Slavs. Firstly, Prussians were pretty much exterminated by the Russians. They destroyed our castles, villages, and homes and slaughtered man, woman, and child if they were German. Those who survived were trapped in Poland where they were heavily abused and mistreated. They were even forced to wear bandanas saying "I am a Nazi". That's why so many Prussians have Polish last names today. They had to adopt a Polish identity to survive. In Russia even today, you can find graffiti of a Russian f*cking a German in the arse. Slavs literally despise us. I don't know how I'm friends with a Russian, but that's just a bad idea for a Germany together with Russia. Not to mention we're completely different people. I can only understand like two or three words in Russian from German just because they're similar. I agree, Russia is very morally aligned and I admire much about Slavs in general and I cherish my Slavic friends. But the wars are still too recent and there's too much hatred between Slavs and Germans. It'll be a few centuries, or more before Russia and Germany can actually call each other friends without someone on either side wishing for the destruction of the other.

Interesting. Long live the Kaiser. I've only met one German who would like to see the Kaiser restored. I generally would like to see the Deutsche Reich reborn as well, but many Germans I feel would be against that as many want to break away from that part of our history and not engage in it. I've even met Germans that don't like us honoring our tribal history XD

Dann habe keine Angst mehr, ist sowieso ein schlechter Begleiter und ein Werkzeug der Macht anderer. Die Germanen wollten lieber frei sterben als in Knechtschaft zu leben, und sicher nicht mit vollen Hosen vor dem Schöpfer stehen. Abgesehen davon glaubten sie an eine Wiedergeburt.

We're technically family, since Germans are one of the top two largest ethnic groups in the US today and the first of them actually came to Jamestown in 1608, just one year after it was founded. If Britain is our parent, then Germany is our uncle.

@@O0o00o0o0 I must agree. The "unification" of Germany in 1871 under Prussian hegemony was a fatal mistake for all Germans finally resulting in the post-WWII tragedy, which among others mostly affected us, then Austrian Sudeten Germans.

I have no idea why, the song has nothing to do with Nazism and actually spits in its face (since that scrawny Austrian painter and his pals in fact hated Christianity, considering it a weak religion). This song basically shouts "For God, For Germany, and Freedom!"

If they did, it might be the best anthem in the world, I'm being totally serious. It also would be one of only three of the top anthems I've heard to mention God, the others being South Korea's (which is also spectacular) and of course Great Britain's.
