Anyone who thinks lyrics should be off limit needs to stop and think. If a killer writes a letter to his friend telling what he did it would be evidence. Why does putting a beat behind it suddenly make it art and off limit?

it's crazy because we've had decades of gangsta rap where the artists have avoided making reference to specific crimes they've committed but the audiences desire for rappers to prove-ably live what they talk about has created this issue

I agree with you but I'll shoe you why it can't and shouldn't. A lot of rappers/musicians essentially fabricate their lives. Some live vicariously through their friends. Some embellish their past lives to seek validation, and some do it because it makes for good art. Once it's art, it can be anything. You can always argue that it's freedom of speech and only art.

@@kemarhamilton8813you can’t make that argument when lyrics can be connected to specific events and people. Jay-Z rapping about selling drugs and shooting people is a lot different than king Von for example, because Jay-Z wasn’t naming specific people and events that had actually occurred. “I gave out 100, boy I bet they coming.” In reference to Duck’s murder. “Man that shit crazy, Krump was doing all that woofing he ain’t even make it, Melly got shot in the party, started Harlem shaking.” Von was referencing real crimes and events. Jay-Z never did that. Ever.

@slimdiddyd I would agree with everything you said. This fact I made clear; however, you are missing one vital part of this, and that's the legality of it all. Von, had he been alive, could make the argument that he is recycling rumors he heard from the streets, and he used it for his music. Once there is no direct evidence of him participating in the crime, he is free to say what he wants on wax. I promise you this; any judge who allows this will eventually have that case appealed and retried. Once said admission wasn't said to law enforcement or primary sources during an investigation, then it's hearsay.

Our people are being weaponized against themselves. The sad part is our love for money removes our love for humanity. Most music leads you somewhere. I remember times when you could listen rap or Hiphop then feel inspired to do good. Nowadays, after listening to certain artists your mind fills with dark thoughts.... Music today reminds me of the music used in the Rwandan Genocide. Black people are the commodity of the earth in so many ways. Our demise equals the payday of many. I hope we wake up soon😢😢😢

That being said…. He’s one of the more put together channels who try’s to fact check as much as he can from a distance… you think he’s gonna come on over to the most dangerous place in the us and ask around … when y’all keep threatening poor dudes life … when he’s only trying to do justice to a situation. You can tell this man actually try’s to be factual and do the story and all those involved his due diligence. And let’s be honest they snitched them selfs right into the hands of the fuzz. Maybe he connected the dots a little better and quicker then the feds 🤷🏻‍♀️ but don’t fault the man for having some solid investigative skills. Give him his flowers and stfu 🤫

I think the law has to be clear cut on whether song/rap lyrics can be used as evidence in court. If the law allows for lyrics to be used in some cases, but not others, there's going to be problems. I think it either has to be that lyrics are allowed to be used, or they're not allowed to be used, otherwise how do you decide? What are the factors that would have to be met to allow an artist's lyrics to be used as evidence against them? You have to remember that a lot of rappers lyrics are cap and it's just an image they're portraying. Just because someone's lyrics might contain things that COULD be true (example: I'm in the kitchen water whipping with the pyrex) how can anyone say if those lyrics are talking about something that person actually did or not? You don't have to be a dealer to know how to cook cr@ck, m€th, etc - there are videos on yt literally showing how to do that, and anyone can watch them.

I’m 50/50 with it. Because yes some raps could be cap and some could be real. But let’s say you weren’t even involved in the shooting and you talk about it then what? So that means you should get arrested because you know about it? Even if you weren’t in the gang? But idk I feel like it’s a slippery slope but at the end of the day. They shouldn’t have even said shit if they actually did it. Loose lips sank ships.

I think a good precedent to set for using is lyrics as evidence is if there is already evidence that they are apart of a gang/know about crimes. A good example is the YSL/Young Thug situation. You can tell he is apart of YSL from his posts to his affiliates to his hand gestures to numerous things he does. Basically the rap lyrics should be one of the last things used in a case cause there is already a lot of evidence that can actually be used as evidence.

Muwop never said "I shot FBG Duck" those actual words are never said. He did say he walked over that guy from 63rd but the thing is he could be talking about any 63rd member many have also died ducks not the only member that's been walked over. So in reality it's 2023 and all rappers are talking about murders that have happened that doesn't mean they pulled the trigger or were there at the scene. So in reality most rappers not all but most are talking about what there homies have done so more like trolling....

Let’s be clear here, if you’re dumb enough to brag about the crimes you’ve committed in your music, then you 100% should be prosecuted. No other genre of music has this issue and to hide behind “black music” as if you’re implying the people that criticize or agree that you should be prosecuted for talking about your crimes in song as “racist” is disgusting.
