Good to see the bearded giant no. 4 (and not only him) putting all those Watts into the water with an open outer hand, relaxed arms and the delicacy of someone repairing a watch. Must show to all those club rowers grinding teeth and clinging on the handles like they were falling from a balcony. You're doing a great job also for the "ordinary rower" with all these videos.

Thanks Giovanni. No tension in the face helps relax the upper body. Hold the handle like a small bird. Strong enough it cant fly away but gentle enough you dont hurt it!

Great composed rowing. Regards gate height I usually find the actual measurement is an outcome of process. Blade buried 30com up the shaft, handle to the finish "comfort spot" around the bottom of the rib cage and you've got it. Arbitrary measurements are a good starting point but crew weight, boat mould and athlete torso length necessitate customising - above all we look for an outcome. A sustained loaded blade face, catch to finish.

What have you got the heights set at for most the guys Tony? Seems a low rig compared to many of the other international crews. Probably similar to Germany

Hi Axel, We set them based purely on comfort and what looked correct. It's a fairly basic principle. I like to use a decent length of slide, get the shins fairly perpendicular and all that. No real state secrets, just common sense. The gate to seat heights varied a lot. 201mm for big Matt in the stroke seat. Three of the boys had theirs in the 170's and 4 in the low 180's. Seat to heels were as follows 193 204 205 204 240 (Dan long shins) 226 219 185 We also used the Filippi adjustable seats which gave us plenty of flexibility. Again we set these based on comfort and ability to reach the correct position at the catch.
