New Zealanders know how to design modern homes so much better than most folks on Earth. I'm always blown away at how Americans toss up cookie cutter homes (especially in California) vs. how other states and countries take pride in what they build and take the time to set themselves apart from their neighbors and surrounding homes. Thanks for sharing Josh!

This house in New Zealand has their walls made of thin plates on isolation, it is not rigid or tough at all. In Europe, builders know how to build solid homes with both inner and outer walls made of bricks, with isolation in between.

Lol, they survive storms here in the states. They do better with earthquakes around the west coast. Also easier to renovate for a home owner

im more amazed how the half of the house has no concrete under it, only wooden sticks. Wonder how much they gonna sink under couple of years and moving the entire house or if they dont sink, how well those woods fight against the weather conditions.

I'm going to guess that termites are not much of an issue there. Seeing the wood posts directly into the ground is something that would not fly here, although in the far North, once into permafrost, foundations have to be wood.

Do you paint the houses in winter in the rain? How long does the foundation dry for? Here in South Africa you can buy a Woodhouse, it is known as a "Wendy House." I live in a brick house that was built about 60 years ago. Everything is over-engineered. I can build a 1st floor without reinforcement due to the strength of the walls. Then again, I must say I vacationed in an A-Frame Woodhouse, and I was pleasantly surprised in the warmth and the feeling of space with the wood around you and not cement and bricks.

What exactly is the wisdom in a house design where, upon entering, one immediately encounters the kitchen and a granite countertop protruding there like a bone? Such a flawed plan. Who would find it logical to have a house where one enters directly into the kitchen before everything else?
