NYS&W Cab Ride!
I hope you'll enjoy this video, and that you will come support Operation Toy Train next weekend, December 14th and 15th on the Morristown & Erie Railway! More information at ToysforTotsNJ.com
I'm excited to give you one of my favorite videos yet. The footage you are seeing if from my GoPro Hero3 Black Edition mounted on top on NYS&W 3022. As crew for that day's Toys for Tots train, I had the opportunity to film the entire trip from the yard at Ridgefield Park to Butler, NJ (with one exception due to temperature-related camera failure.) This may be the only legally obtained cab ride footage you may ever see on the NYS&W, so enjoy it, share it with your friends, subscribe, and come out to support Operation Toy Train next weekend! Thanks, and enjoy the video!
Operation Toy Train is a 4-day event, the requires months of planning and several weeks to execute. It would not be possible without the efforts of the following:
John Sobatka
Norfolk Southern
NYS&W Railway
Middletown & New Jersey Railroad
Morristown & Erie Railway
New Jersey Transit
Military Transport Association
United Railroad Historical Society
Volunteer Railroaders Association
UPS
Kuiken Brothers Lumber
and The US Marine Corps Reserve
Disclaimer: This video was obtained legally with permission. No electronic device was in use inside the cab of the locomotive, as per FRA regulation.

Awesome vid, but could you PLEASE upload a version without the music? I want to hear the sounds of the train :D
Right through my area of NJ; nice to see. Judging from the number of spectators lining the track, I'm guessing this was a maiden fun on the recently restored line.
Holy crap it's me at 1:55...Only place I got to see this lol. Great video!

Why can't people make these intriguing videos WITHOUT the obnoxious music???

They want it to go viral with the negative comments, I suppose. This individual should be shut down for spamming to generate comments.
I know I'm about nine years too late with this comment, but I'd really like to have seen the uncut version. As a model railroader, I saw so many interesting scenes that got cut off prematurely. Anyway, thanks for posting.
It’s nice especially when you’re familiar with the area
This is excellent. The fixed camera position on the cab roof creates a panorama that is graphically very pleasing. Thanks for posting.
beautifully done :)
Unedited version?
That was a great video. Loved the cameras view! 3x thumbs up!!
Could you make a full uncut version without music
Amazing video! Thanks!
First class video. Thanks for sharing.
Pret' good speed, thru a congested urban area. Nice to see all the preserved depots and considerable line-side industries.
I love watching these because you get a view very few ever see. But that was a very nice intro as well! Good cinematic feel to it. Nice choice of music at well.
Awesome cab ride!
Great video
Extraordinary Video & Measures
Superb videos !
Not liking all the scene switching...prefer a continuous run instead.
Great video, favorited
Sounds like a fun ride on a cab.
This video is so epic man! You've really outdone yourself. I see you got me twice in this haha.

Awesome video dude! Have you thought about uploading the entire trip at all? I think that would be a pretty epic cabride lol. I saw me at 03:58 on the hill at Matthews Ave in the blue/white varisty jacket !

Thanks! Yes I have, and there's a few reasons I won't. First, I have a gap in the footage from where the camera shut off. Also, my computer wouldn't be able to handle rendering that much footage. And think of any given train line. 90% of it is trees, which is especially boring after foliage season when everything is dead. I took out the good footage and didn't leave out anything I though people would want to see!
like it reason nice view and /education/history.
Very nice
Freaking awesome video Kevin!!!! Glad to see you included some shots of me :)

This is such a cool video! I wish I had the opportunity to shoot some videos like this. Or even just go for the ride without recording it :)
Best I've seen and I've seen alot
The snow shot in the intro is beaver lake rd in Stockholm right? And Bloomingdale was actually Riverdale. Awesome video and music
I can't tell you how great that was. Thanks. I grew up in the Hawthorne area. My Legion Post is a drop off for Toys For Tots also. We will take them to the arsenal ourselves. Our 1st Vice Commander is in the Marine Reserves there. It's great what is being done by all the volunteers. I would like to put your video up on the Legions FB Channel If I may.

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. Haven't heard from you in a while! Probably because I haven't posted to this channel in a while. I'm glad you're helping to support the cause. Thank you. And please, feel free to share the video wherever you like! I did this video in hopes to get the word out about the train next weekend. Take care, Kevin

I wanted to ask you before I posted it. Thanks. Our 1st Vice , as I said ,is a Marine. He's being deployed again, to Afghanistan, with his reserve unit. Have yourself a great Christmas, you and your family.
What a sick crossing at 2:37
Nice video. It amazing how tight the line runs thru hackensack and that it used to be 2 tracks there. Did anyone even show up to Rochelle Park? How did the rest of the stops do? How was it compared to last year?
@21stCenturyLtd

Thanks! We had a good turnout at Rochelle Park. (We stopped on the opposite side of the station.) The Bergen County Harley Owners Group stopped by with a whole bunch of motor cycles and a truck load of toys. It was definitely worth the stop!
AWESOME VIDEO BUT THE MUSIC WAS KILLED IT
Also made possible by the Norfolk Southern's very own H02.......
Great noteworthy video
Foamers everywhere! Great video ... could have watched all day.
Epic success....please if possible between Sparta Jct and Franklin. Keep the music, it's fine ... Great stuff..
I have a question what type of camera do you use for all of your videos?
Nicely done. How did you mount that camera on the cab and how did you keep it from shaking violently while moving?
@21stCenturyLtd
10 жыл бұрын
Thanks! Its mounted with the suction cup mount. The less "linkage" you use mounting a GoPro, the less it will shake so I had it right on the mount without any extra parts. The suction cup also helps absorb vibration.
What kind of mount did you use?
A lot of information here for a modeler!
Shit I miss NJ
why do bridges have a second set of tracks on the inside or outside of the primary rail?
@RicardoSantos-il3ee
4 жыл бұрын
kevin O In case the train derails on the bridge, it’ll decrease the chances of the train falling off the bridge in case of a derailment.
Could have been a great video. But, some moron decided to block out all the train sounds and that lovely whistle by playing some ghastly music over the top of everything. Next time just let the train speak for itself, please?

I agree get rid of the annoying music it takes away from the video. After about a minute or so had to go to something else.

None of the stop going through wyckoff???? :( i watched the hole thing waiting for that
@21stCenturyLtd

No, sorry! The cold temperature caused the camera to turn itself off just before Wyckoff. Those little cameras were not meant to ride the roofs of trains in the cold!
Awesome Video If you pause it at 4:15 and look to the right side of the video, you can see me.

I enjoyed the cab ride but could do without that back ground music. Justwould have liked to hear the sounds of the train.
Show the full set of footage and no music. Dislike.
Quality of the video was great. The music ruined it. Shut it off halfway.
Nice! See me a couple times haha
I thought the music was ok
id rather see the clips were it went thru the towns you cut off parts i liked to have seen how bout putting it on here in parts then
So I guess the general vicinity of the cab counts as a ‘cab ride’? Ok.
It would have been better without music though. 😀
AHHH damn, what's the deal with the music?? This is obviously not a rail fan that put this together as he/she would know that sounds are a large part of the railfaning experience and not ruin the audio with a music track disappointing. When I watch ride alongs I picture myself in cab but the music ruins the realism.

Thad ward you can literally just search any video of NYSW 3022 and hear the horn. The music is in the video for a reason

I agree! I hate that when they put friken music in the background!
Csx
Spoilt by the music!
Bad music choice...............Would rather hear the wheels clacking than that music.
You sure know how to ruin a great cab ride by cutting most of it out .Also nix the music . We want to hear the loco .
Remove the music immediately
STOP CHANGING THE SCENES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
+1000 on cutting the shitty no name band wanna be metal music. I came here for a cab ride, not a no name cover band concert. FAIL
