Hey It's Zach from 718motorpool and today we have this Federal Signal Smart Siren from the early 90s used by the New York City Police Department. These were used from 1991 until 2011 and were Iconic around NYC for decades. Lets have a look at it!

The push button "levels" prior to the slide always struck me as an interesting choice. I often forget the sheer number of vehicles NYPD had to deal with and keep standard. Very cool video!

Unfortunately the buttons for this gen keypad weren't really durable and after use and age aren't as responsive as the newer ones

god this siren sound awful thank god federal signal improved and made way better versions for this siren other departments that has smart sirens/pathfinders today didnt like this siren so they went with whelen on the crown vics, impalas, and old tahoes and other old units before federal signal made a better version of it in 2012

I actually prefer the older smart siren tones over the new ones most departments don’t buy sirens for how they sound it’s mostly a price thing. But if I had it my way, the NYPD would still be using the mark seven siren!
