NYC Subway HD: Budd R32 A Train Railfan Window RFW Ride (Dyckman St - Lefferts BLVD) 6/24/15

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

As of Summer 2015, a single R32 set ran on the A train during the PM rush hour. It enters service as the 5:04 PM put-in @ Dyckman Street to Lefferts Boulevard. Once at Lefferts, it turned as the 6:31 PM train back to 207th. I believe it runs one more round trip after that. Had another great T/O for this run in addition to a wonderfully operating R32 3615 (no dead motors, fully dynamic braking, very smooth ride), so enjoy the ride =)

    I lived in Rockaway 50 years ago. I'd stand at the front and watch as often as I could. The first thing that I noticed on this video is the lack of newspapers flying about in the tunnel. I remember trains and platforms so packed that sometimes I could not board having to wait for the next train. Of course now all the trains are air conditioned. Nice ride but I still have to change at Euclid Ave and I don't have to pay to get off the train now either!

    Lived in Rockaway eons ago. My father got tickets to the opening day ceremony at Howard Beach. Rode the first train to the Rockaways. Trip was a slow, molasses slog from day one across the Bay. My father used the service the next day. He was so late for work that he never used it again. Through, rush hour trains from Rockaway Park ran as "E" Trains; made every local stop between Euclid Ave. and Hoyt/Schermerhorn St. Through, rush hour trains had to change crews as Euclid Ave,; the wait was almost intolerable. Rockaways got the "middle finger" with that service; from what I hear and see it ain't much better now.

    Most times, the R32 (A) does two round trips. On the return trip, it gets back to 207th Street between 2230 to 2300 hours. It depends on what time it leaves Lefferts Boulevard.

    Thanks for posting this. I miss the Redbirds, which is from the same generation and am glad the R32's are still running. Although I'm a RedBird fan, to me the R32's were the prettiest subway trains on the MTA. Was always enjoyable being able to stand at the front door window of the first car. Can't do that on the newer trains. Will be saddening when these classic old girls are retired. Hopefully some of the cars will become a part of the "Train of Many Metals" set.

    1:15:27. Interesting how the signal is set for green over green. Usually, a diverging switch will be green over yellow, but that's apparently the setting for the Rockaways. Probably because Lefferts was the original route.

    The R-32 didn't have factory a/c they had fans; air conditioning was installed in the nineties . I was a conductor for 30yrs, in the eighties they were in bad shape like most of their equipment , years of poor maintenance and nyc near bankruptcy in the seventies. The R-32 was in better shape mechanically than some of their other equipment, like the R-27 and R-40s.

    28:40 That 50th Street station those people are waiting on the upper level "C". What's interesting about this is that the lower level served by the "E" see's most of the train traffic. I use to miss a lot of trains and than someone told me.to wait on the lower level. At times, the "E" runs better than the A and C combine. As you continue to watch, this is a very fast point for the "A" and very slow for the E. Also, out of all the trains, the "C" is the only one true to itself. It is a Local all stop train surrounded by semi and full expresses. Only the "D" (was or is) a full-time express if you are old enough. It was express over the "A" during the midnight. Over the "F" (and B and M when running) all the times. The B is designated as a 6 Avenue express with.the D. And it probably have the best express run in Brooklyn except for the "A". It is like the E and F in reverse. The E is the express n Queens, but local in Manhattan. It's always dependable when you need it or don't need it.

    Unpopular idea here: I think the 8th Avenue Express trains that run to Lefferts should have a different Label. The R46 fleet has had major flaws with its electronic destination signs not working and the announcements suck. My idea: all Lefferts Boulevard A Trains become K Trains, this also gives the subway a good label for all shuttle trains on late nights. Changing the symbol in the front of the train actually can do a lot for indication. So if the R46 destination signs fail, when a person sees an A in the front of the train he/she will know "To Far Rockaway", when a K, "To Lefferts Boulevard" and maybe if you want to take it further, a diamond A, "To Rockaway Park" just my idea, I think nomenclature makes a good difference.

    Chad M I think designating a whole new line that only exclusively goes to three extra stops would be too confusing, instead what they should do is have two different A headsigns- one that says Lefferts underneath the A and the other that says Rockaway. That's long overdue in my opinion.

    Apesar dessas estações serem muito mais feias do que a do Brasil, dos Trens serem mais velhos, a linha é extensa e cobre uma ampla área e a distância entre estações é curta. Despite these stations are much more ugly than that of Brazil, the trains are older, the line is extensive and covers a wide area and the distance between stations is short.

    That is possible, but it HAS to be done correctly. The key to this is a new tunnel connection between the Whitehall Street station and the Hoyt-Schermerhorn outer tracks, and another connection between Broadway-East NY on the A/C and Cypress Hills on the J and Z. This allows for the R and W to be rerouted from Southern Brooklyn to the Fulton Street Line, with the R going to Euclid Avenue and the W taking over the J to Jamaica Center. The J would be restructured as to operate between Broadway Junction and 95th Street. Meanwhile, the R and W would also operate together on the Astoria Line, which would be extended to LaGuardia Airport. This allows for the N to move to 96th Street with the Q. At this point, the R would be based out of Pitkin Yard and the W out of East NY Yard (to be expanded). To replace Queens Blvd Service, a new K route would operate alongside the E, F, and M, operating between 71st Avenue and World Trade Center via QB Local and 8th Avenue Local. The M moves to 63rd Street and the C would not only be express north of Canal Street but would also swap roles with the D to maintain express service on both branches north of 145th Street.

    This is a fun video! We actually overtake several locals en route. Why is Utica a "Fast Station" requiring train operators to start braking before entering as the sign at the stop before it warns? Is there a downward slope? Is the platform unusually short?

  • @FanRailer

    @FanRailer

    8 жыл бұрын

    Yes, there's a downhill section of track leading up to the station. They've installed a timer before Utica anyway, so operators are forced to slow down to about 25 mph before entering the station.

    28:39 It is interesting to see the 50th Street station full of waiting passenger. Common Sense always told me to wait at the lower level, because that is where trains run more frequently. Than to see an "E" being passed 29:03 tells me that it already served that station. I hope those people on the upper platform is going to Brooklyn (C) line. By the way, this is a slow point for the "E" as anything on the upper level is sure to speed into the 42nd Street station (even the "C") if it ever arrives.

  • @TheRailLeaguer

    @TheRailLeaguer

    4 жыл бұрын

    qolspony The upper level serves local trains going to Brooklyn via an imperfect service pattern that involves these local trains switching between local and express tracks. Things would be better if the lower level was served by 24 trains per hour and the upper level served by 0 trains per hour.

    BAM. "F" train right from this "A" after West 4th Street. The "A" train drops far enough to see the back of it. The "F" is coming up to make a track connection with the "C" and "E". 37:50. "F" 37:52. Now it is behind the Wall 37:55. Below the "A" tracks is the "B" and "D" which can be seen by the "C" and "E". Take a look at this "C" video: kzread.info/dash/bejne/k46t1rl8YZOaqaQ.html 30:55. The "M" comes up. Than as it goes behind the behind the beams, it starts to descend downward for the turn to Bwy Lafayette. This is why the descend of the "A" is never on the level of the "F" or "M" (6th Avenue) local tracks. Because this "F" has to go underneath the "A" (8th Avenue lines). The only reason why this exist is for reroute flexibility. There is also a track left of the "C" that connects to it once the track connection with the 6th Avenue Local tracks is made "F" and "M".

  • @qolspony

    @qolspony

    4 жыл бұрын

    49:39 There's the same "F" at Jay Street (across the platform). Often times, the "F" will beat the "A" from West 4th St. to Jay Street. And this is an indication. This is also a Fast point for the "F" line always beating the "A" from York St (F) High St. to Jay Street visa versa.

  • @qolspony

    @qolspony

    4 жыл бұрын

    You got to give it to the "F", if you put it up against another train line, it will beat it. But it service can be unpredictable at times, because of all the services that it interlinks with.

    I feel sorry if the operator had to use the bathroom. If this was any other subway in the universe the ride would have been half as long. why are their trains so fricking slow? whats their top speed? 30? they should easily be able to go 60 in the flying junctions. I don't see why they have to crawl along. then again half the signals don't change until the train is right on top of it.
