@jeahavvalentin980 O my dear, during the 80s, 90s, into 2000s Flushing was a night from today's. It was also very crowded but a poor Flushing. Today, it is flashed with new money and wealth from newly young Chinese to Flushing, and they spent their wealth. That's how these Chinese developers built these malls, high-end luxurious residential condos and apts who are banking on these Chinese newcomers to a vibrant Flushing.

We stopped by this new mall a couple of times this summer. The food court was very busy on the weekends. The mall was, I think, for the college-aged kids to take their dates to impress with their pricey venues. The open concord in the middle where open up to skylight, I think, wasted a lot of space with different levels and ramps, which it broke away from the formal way of American mall layout. Not to mention the cost of cooling or heating in the giant volume of space for the summers or winters. We ended up back to lunch and dine in the basement food court of New World Mall.

That was my take on this mall too. So much space not used; rather strange for NYC where I thought a foot of space was very costly and if not used, non-productive.

As an old school native New Yorker, Malls are for the suburban Midwest. We did have shopping centers such as the green Acres mall but each store was independent. From the play world where I got my micronauts, Shogun warriors and six dollar man action figures too Mays, Gerzts and Alexanders for clothing as well. One great place in the early to late 80's was QPs shopping center. I got a ton of Japanese giant robot toys from there. The individual shopping in old NYC was the best. The whole city was a vibrant shopping district, no need for indoor shopping prisons. We only had one Chinatown with incredible food, 3 different movie theaters where one could watch Kung Fu movies straight from hong Kong in the original Cantonese. The shopping there was incredible as well I can't begin to tell you. This mall looks like a sterilized version of something I would see in Singapore. The gentrification has hurt NYC culturally, spiritually and financially. I just saw the completion of the Brooklyn tower absolutely atrocious. Who has 1 million to 14 million for an apartment I have no idea. I am happy I grew up in the time I did in my old beloved New York, unfortunately I have no desire ever to return. New York is a shadow of its former self. Living in Japan suits me fine.

Interesting and very luxe especially how most aren’t certain of the future of malls. Most malls in the US are closing. I guess there’s always so, where for the families living upstairs in the condos to go to. That area of flushing is always busy so they will probably do well. I used to take the 7 train to that flushing stop and bus to my job in College Point snowy days Non snow, I drove.

4:22 Chinese restaurant menus continue to be a great source of entertainment. For instance, clams are $9.99 but if you want them *fresh* that’s an extra five bucks. If you’re OK with smelly, mushy, past-expiration-date clams you don’t have to pay that extra fee. I can think of quite a few people who could use some “smart brain” and I’m sure you can too. The “kung fu potato” sounds scary-I don’t want to try to eat something that is better at martial arts than I am. Though, it also sounds like a Mr. Potato Head decorated up to look like Bruce Lee, which could be funny. I also like how, mixed in with all the complex fancy types of meat, seafood, etc., there is just “frog.” “I’ll have the thousand layer beef osmium.” “Give me the crispy grass carp slices.” “I want the frog. Yeah, just plain old frog. No I don’t particularly care what kind of frog, or what part(s) of it, or how it’s prepared.” Also, while I *do* know what a geoduck is, I suspect that to someone who doesn’t it sounds maybe like a Pokemon. It’s actually a clam that sadly is neither a duck nor an earth elemental.
