I'm binging a bunch of NYC Marathon videos, as my partner just got in so I'm flying over to support but I can tell you something, as excited as I am to watch him speed his way through the 26.2 miles and be super proud of him I CANNOT WAIT to also head back out onto the streets and cheer on the back of the packers who run at speeds like me, and be in awe of you all managing the distance!! I'm tearing up to your video, I just adore the people like you who surround me at races (No way am I ready for 26 miles, I'm still on the 10K distance lol!) - what a celebration!!

The NYC Marathon has a more generous cut-off time than any other marathon I have done. The official cut-off time for the NYC Marathon this year was 8:30 p.m. Wave 5, the last wave, started at 11:30 a.m., so that gives nine hours to finish the race. Chicago cuts off at six and a half hours. NYC is very generous.

Congrats... thanks for this video. So many memories flooding back to me from this. Just awesome to relive it through your work! Thanks! 10:29.... this is my favorite neighborhood of the course ---- Oh man, that was awesome. I was DONE around 10k, then I got a second wind there. about 8 minutes: I remember that "you have stamina, call me" sign! Hilarious. They didn't leave a number though!!! 12:28- 13 miles... knew I was done! That was a hard several moments thinking "what do I do now... can't just walk away! And if I'm walking away, why not just keep walking forward instead?" 14:08 - Lightheaded, Yes. And feet feel like they are just exploding in the shoes. BUT -- you are wrong! Coming off the Queensboro bridge you FEEEEEEEEEEEEL The Crowds! Not just hear! I can't believe how loud that was. Unreal. 16:00ish - I don't remember ANYTHING from about miles 18-20. Nothing. None of that looks familiar. The Lightheaded is REAL! 20-21: You finished! AMAZING!!!! I didn't record nothing, but I'm pretty sure I may have reacted very much the same way. Did I thank you yet for posting this? Thank you.

@@passporttorun Yes, she can always get faster. I have gotten faster in marathons myself - but she needs to be realistic about whether she can do Chicago in their six and a half hour cutoff, or qualify for Boston which requires a 4-something marathon, depending on her age group, if she is now doing an eight-hour marathon. You can definitely get there later, but I know there was a major backup with the ferry this year. Earlier is better. I did choose to take a bus with my training group that was super early, but it cut down on the stress I felt trying to get to the start.
@cathynewyork7918
Жыл бұрын
She is right -- this year at the NYC Marathon, there was a terrible back-up with the buses taking people from the ferry to the start area. If you do this NYC Marathon, do what I do -- choose the option of the chartered marathon buses from the NY Public Library at 42nd Street and 5th Avenue. You get on the bus at the library, and get off at the marathon start. No mid-trip transfer from ferry to bus. If you're accepted in the marathon, a month or two after acceptance they will email you to tell you to log in and choose which option you want, the library bus or the ferry. There will be various departure times to choose from. Go earlier rather than later to be sure you have enough time. If you want to see the ferry-bus mess yourself, go to the channel "Christian Runs NY" and watch the last few minutes of his video entitled "I couldn't finish the NYC Marathon." He shows and talks about the ferry-bus problem, and said many runners missed their start wave.

Congratulations!!!
Im in the middle of my training and jist wanted to say you are such an inspiration. I was crying throughout your video. Thank you for sharing and thank you for being you.
We need more stories like this! Congratulations! You persisted! You're amazing! You won!

I have been struggling as a back of the packer wondering if I will be able to complete this challenge, but this video shows with hard work you can achieve your dreams. I hope to run into you both at marathon weekend and maybe even get to conquer some of the miles together on the dopey courses. Way to go and thank you for sharing the journey.

Thank you.

@@cathynewyork7918 well the good thing about running is that you can always work on getting faster. Just because something is "difficult" doesn't mean "don't try". That's no reason to cut down on someone's goals or aspirations.

Dream, yes, but be realistic.

You can definitely get there later, but I know there was a major backup with the ferry this year. Earlier is better. I did choose to take a bus with my training group that was super early, but it cut down on the stress I felt trying to get to the start.
@cathynewyork7918
