Bridges and tunnel are high use infrastructures that need an incredible amount of upkeep. Taxes cover only a portion of the bill, and even people who don’t drive pay those taxes, because our goods are shipped using those roads. It’s the same rationale behind the subway and bus fare. The answer is simple: driving a personal vehicle is a luxury, and you have to pay your fair share.

No one is stopping you from obscuring a plate number/letter. If you are registered, have insurance and valid drivers license; and they decide to pull you over for obscured plate the max fine is $300, but if you travel these bridges very often the $300 ticket might be an investment (lol), since the tolls add up >$300 very quickly. Again, unlikely to get pulled over because as the video said 9000+ people do it daily and only a few will get pulled over in a day, and even FEWER will actually get towed/arrested because those are the ones without valid license, registration, insurance, and fake plates. Make sure to have all prior toll balance cleared, and have no pending tickets/fines. So they can't tow your car for prior balance if you do get pulled over for obscured plate when toll evading.

AAA used to give out transponders in the early days of their inception,now you have to pay at least $150 for one of them and this does not include the tolls.

Cross the GWB is 18 bucks, if you got EZ-Pass and your payment is late, that toll turns from 18 to 65.

They take tax payer's money to build shit like that and make them pay again. Such BS.

It’s all about the money, the city is now talking about this because the new toll is coming up, these drivers including the illegal taxi has been doing this for years and many of them with no insurance, all you need to do is to just stand on Flatbush or Church avenue in Brooklyn and you will see lots of paper plates. I do agree with the city for doing this but not for the reason, because of this and what the city has become I am moving to the south in 2024.

I've been thru that NY Bridge lots of times and i too haven't received a ticket yet because i too cover my plate/i use different types of plates to go thru that Bridge... but if they want my address I'd be happy to pay that bill i think i owe at least 5 grand of un paid tickets. They ought to lock up the MTA / TBTA with the prices they charge. The Verrazano Bridge cripples the working commuter.

In the Bay Area not only do you have to pay for the bridge toll but they've also turned the far left lane into a paid lane that can cost a little over $1 per mile to travel in during rush hour. Fucked either way. Pay almost $30 to cover 20 miles or sit in traffic for 90 minutes.

Hate ny I live in ct an I haven't received a toll in mail an then 3 month later they charging me for 220 for a 20 for toll fee an I called them saying I never received it I'm not paying 220 fee you crazy

this is how to discourage 'ghost cars' have a crew of officers drive different highways to look for these violations. have a few tow trucks with them. I ride the grand central parkway often and i'll see rear plates completely worn away but when I get to the front of the vehicle the front plate is cleaner than a preachers sheets. On a short ride at least 10 can be seen with obstructed plates. It's not only to avoid tolls alot are not in dmv ,no driver license, no insurance time for towing and if no fine is paid no car.

or we can lower the price of the bridges and tunnel so it's affordable for all.... but yeah higher fines is the way to go.

My friends drive fast BMWs, they have motorized plate blockers/flippers, they never pay a dime for redlight, speed and toll cameras. If any staties do decide to pull them over then they just take off and since NYC has a no-chase policy, it is more than likely that higher-ups for these state troopers and highway patrols will call it off.
