@@selohcin Yep. a) I needed to update my 1080Ti and couldn't wait another 9 months. b) I feel that the new cards are not going to be cheaper, but rather even more expensive than the current crop, and c) I have it on good authority we are heading into another silicon shortage in the next few months. If that turns out to be wrong (I hope), I'll sell the 7900XTX and get whatever the 8900XTX is or maybe a 5090/5080.

Well if i can replace what they had for the AI with 1 i get from huggingface you might disagree just like have 9GB of VRAM to run the AI alone. That 1 requirement is why most games that use this will not use the best out there AIs. The 9GB ones are on the high side but they are of the TheBloke/CapybaraHermes-2.5-Mistral-7B-AWQ. The reason why i say 9GB of VRAM it is a AWQ model and 9GB will be enough for a high enough token number for it to run for the user to not think the NPC is forgetting what they just said. Though like with all LLMs it will have issues if you want to talk about something to far in the past in the log. How far is to far depends on how it is set up. Still using an LLM for the NPC speech gen is an idea that has been around for a while. In a few skyrim mods it has been used. The ones that require you to run it locally still work after OpenAI put a stop to it using their LLM of ChatGPT.

@@oswaldmosley6179 because most often this new feature to be shown in it's best light not how it would work in real game. real implementation by game developer end up being more complicated. mesh shaders? it exist since 2018 and one of the benchmark by futuremark (dev of 3Dmark) shown how it can improve performance significantly in their benchmark suite. then come the very first game ever use mesh shader: alan wake 2. it was the most demanding game to date. now they push an update so GPU without mesh shaders can actually run the game with higher performance. same thing with DX12 draw call improvement over DX11 before. it was something like 9 times the improvement with DX12. in the end using DX12 hardly improve the performance positively and sometimes it gives performance regression instead. in other words we need this feature to be used in real games to see the benefit and not just some hype from controlled demo.

I'm fine with the 4090. It's 500 dollars cheaper ($750 if we consider taxes and warranties) and I also got it back in mid-January specifically for Tekken 8. Had to have a new PC built for that release. But, considering I'm saving $750, and getting it a year earlier, I'm ok with it. Waiting for the 8090.

well at least regardless the tech is a success or not nvidia usually put an effort to make it happen like PhysX haha. remember bullet physics? it was supposed to be nvidia "PhysX killer" when AMD endorse that physics engine back in 2009. even said games using the engine will going to come out within a year or two. then nothing. most people don't even aware about it. then we have true audio. after one game (thief 4) it was never heard of again.

*I miss the days when you could flash the firmware on graphics cards to get it up a bin. Ie: Ti4200 to a Ti4600. Man!! Those were the days.*

The work graphs thing is probably designed for consoles. Consoles use amd typically and usually have weak cpus. This will let them cut cost even more theoretically. It's almost like a bizarro APU, a powerful gpu with an onboard cpu. Something like that might make sense for console

If you want a 5000 Card, wait, but the 40' still have good value, id recomend a 4080 super, or a 7900xtx if you dont care about nvidia, maybe if you are dreaming big, buy thertx 4090, or a budget card, 7600xtx-6900xt for amd or 4070 - 4080S. And buy a16gb one, it is sufficient for all modern games today.

I dont need a xx90 anything. When you get passed 60 fps its really a waste to me.

more excited about the work graph stuff, since that is something we can actually expect to come to the world and be actually good for games and such. while in most cases with nvidia stuff like that AI stuff it ends up doing more harm than good since nvidia has the nasty habit of making sure games and software have to be specifically designed for them and yet then also locked down for other hardware, meanwhile such AI npc's actually did already exist, the modders who did it now probably have more expertise in that field than nvidia, since atleast those modders could make it work on different mashines instead of locked down only to one gpu type. ofcource if nvidia ended up this time actually making it someting that you can use on any hardware then it is good, but for now nvidia really has something to prove to get my trust, actually so much that I actually generally avoid nvidia gpu's unless they are secondhand and/or very cheap. generally for new I first look at amd and intel since nvidia really has done to many anti customer and anti competition practices.

It is not a bad card but struggles nowadays depending on what you play, my old 1080 ti is living the rest of its life in a media pc. Just get AMD instead if you do not care about ray tracing and newer features? Personally the 4090 has given med almost a few good years and i hope the 5090 is a massive upgrade and that will do the same

Honestly, I stopped investing in Nvidia. They are moving away from working with the average consumer (gamers, creators, designers, etc.) and instead are focusing on larger organizations and governments across the world. Prices will only continue to increase tremendously and support for everyday consumers will slowly but surely come to an end. Time to make the switch (AMD) or have a new company, like Intel, compete in the market....

Additionally, this economy has brainwashed you to believe that it is "normal" to pay ($1,500 - $2,000) for a "Top-Tier" (RTX 3090) graphics card, even after the card has been out for several years, when new cards get released for even more ($2,000 - $2500). The GeForce GTX 980Ti was a monster at the time and only cost $649.99 - MSRP. If consumers would just refuse to pay the "Top-Tier" Price, I bet you could have bought a brand new GeForce RTX 3090 Graphics Card for $599.99 MSRP. Think about it...
