best 1440p gpu = 4090, you can't base best on cheapest necessary, best is and will be the best and if you want the best then everything must be able to be turned on to max also ray tracing and still have as many fps as possible. and not just necessary in single player games

All prices are coming down, but some markets are always going to be higher in terms of relative prices. If you look at AMD/NVIDIA Gaming Revenue (not AI), it is falling and that's why prices are coming down. No more GPU miners to buy everything in sight for a bazillion dollars.

Hi Jason, I built my current PC - Authello, almost a decade ago. I say with a heavy heart that it is no longer adequate for even the most basic of tasks. At the time of buidling him, I spent 2 weeks researching different parts though videos and forumns. Now that I needed a replacement, I went to youtube and stumbled across one of your videos. Spending only a couple of nights watching you was enough for me to decided exactly what parts I needed to satisfy my wants. I have ordered everyting and look forwards to my first 1440p gaming experience. Thank you for your videos, they were incredibly helpful

Nvidia is a company, it's not your friend. They are making a fortune off of A.I.. The fabs they use to make GPUs are the same fabs they use to make NPUs. The graphics end of the company is literally costing them a fortune right now. Unfortunately for them, they are forced to remain a graphics company... at least for a while. I would not be surprised, at all, if NVIDIA sells it's graphics division to Intel. Just my two cents.

I can see NVidia spinning off GeForce as a semi-independent subsidiary of NVidia, they would contract with NVidia for GPU designs but would handle the manufacturing, marketing and sales with AIBs while the parent company focuses on the highly profitable DC/AI sectors. You’re correct NV is actually foregoing some profits to make gaming GPUs, those wafer allocations from TSMC are both limited and very valuable to many companies. The H100s go for between $30K-$100K on the open market and places like China are desperate to get a hold of what they can. NVidia is literally leaving money on the table to serve the gaming market. But some gamers have a sense of entitlement and somehow think they’re owed cutting edge GPUs at low prices every two years or they throw a tantrum over it. NVidia is a shareholder driven business, their only responsibility is to generate maximum profits for those shareholders, not be to a gamer’s best friend.

@@FragbiteOeXistenz They basically test ran that scenario in the 40 series, AMD had a wide open field for almost a year to grab low-mid level market share from NV through ultra low pricing. But typical of AMD they fumbled the ball and played follow the leader. I think NV might stop at what is the 4070 Ti Super level (AD103) of card and give the rest over to AMD and Intel, it’s simply not worth the cost and headache.

I recorded this before NVIDIA published their insane Q4 2023 earnings report and AI revenue projections. It's possible they just say "screw gaming" if they really can push the insane AI revenue they are projecting, but their gaming revenue is down sharply and it is a function of not selling enough GPUs, so if they want to get the revenue up they need to offer better price/performance.

I recently built a new computer this past december. Since the build I had stability issues where I would get RAM failures where the debug light would have the "VRAM" light pop on, but more occasionally, I had the GPU just disconnect, I would besides my screen just going black, where my sensor panel would show the GPU at 0% across everything I was monitoring. I thought maybe to just re mounting it on the mobo, I also tried different speeds on the ram, and I turned it down from 6400 down to 6000. To a point where I turned off any clock on the ram and ran it at its native 4800, but I would still have crashing issues. I also have boot up issues where I would have to try and turn on the computer a few times. I was about to exchange the mobo but on a last ditch effort, I took off the cable mod gpu extension cables. That seems to have fixed everything. I haven't crashed in over a week since I just went back to my regular cables my psu came with. I'm pretty dissappointed with those cable mod gpu extensions. It appears to have causing my gpu to disconnect as well as my RAM to be unstable? I still have the cable mod extensions on my mobo 24 pin cable and EPS cables. Just no longer on my gpu. Did I get a bad set or something?

There are people even worse off than 3070/3080 buyers (me) because I got a 3070 Ti 8GB during covid, the worst deal of all ... but then again, I won the newegg shuffle so paid ONLY 45% over MSRP (I could have been paying DOUBLE) and I bid on this loser CPU specifically to have better odds of winning a the newegg shuffle ... maybe I'll find someone to upgrade it to 16GB ...

I live in California where our electricity is $0.33 - $.060 per kWh. I'm using $0.39 as the average and plugging a KASA into the wall. If this is calculating correctly, my PC with a 7900 XTX is potentially costing me around $30-50 a month at up to 7 kWh per day usage. If I knew this, maybe I would've gotten a 4080 instead or maybe a lower tier card.

Those framerates are really only achievable on competitive shooters at competitive settings, so I like the 7800 XT or 7900 XT. 4070 Ti Super is an option but lower 1440p performance than the 7900 XT, 4070 Super could also be an option as those titles should not exceed 12GB VRAM.

I built my gaming pc based off your recommendations from an earlier video, b650 Wi-Fi, 7800 x3d, 7900 xtx, 1000w phanteks power supply, ddr5 6400, but have been getting nothing but driver crashes to desktop during 4k ultra gaming. I’ve tried reinstalling drivers, replacing gpu, PSU and same crashes. It’s weird because the fps is a solid 80+ and just suddenly will crash to desktop. I’ve even gotten a few blue screens and even a random shutdown. Any ideas what I could do? It’s my first pc build and I’m determined to get this system stable!!

@@mattzavala9456 I just read another article about this. Supposedly, the updated motherboard board bios's allowed the bump to 6200,6400, etc etc. but maybe your board doesn't have the latest bios that allows this. If it runs at 6000, then this may be the case. Initially AMD recommended 5200 to be sure of stability. So just in case you need to continue diagnosing it, you could use 5200 and go from there. What motherboard are you using? Has it been updated to the most current bios? I have never had to update a bios, and that process scares the shit out of me. If ya F it up, your MB is toast. That's why I recommended just rolling the memory back to something known to be stable. Please update us as I really would like to know if this works. Not that I hated amd, but at that time the hd7000 cards and r series were out and I didn't take the time to understand the series and models. My first budget build was a gtx 460se and i3 2100 I didn't need a new gpu until the 900 series. Upgraded to a 1060 6gb and a i7 2600k which lasted for years. Actually just retired the mobo and processor this year. My wife used it to play Sims. Gpu is still kicking. Built a new system 5 or 6 years ago 1660ti and ryzen 7 1700x l, loved the ryzen and skipped Intel for the first time. Has since been upgraded to a ryzen 9 3900x My next build in the very near future this year, will be my first dream build. Going full amd. 7900xtx and ryzen 7 7800x3d. Hmmm the question (~12:00) about undervolting your GPU with a weaker psu….. I feel it’s a ‘it depends’ scenario. the psu recommendation for gpus is based on an overclocked CPU situation for that generation and if you’re running a non-overclocked or an Intel non-K sku, then if your psu is a named brand you can run a lower wattage psu if within reason like 100 watts (GPU says 750w but your Corsair psu is 650w bronze) then your fine. It’s like you mention in your undervolting section that manufacturer spec’s are determining a working 99.9% majority of users and preventing as many user complaints/ RMA’s etc.

If you go 7800x3d then you will be on AM5 platform which has an upgrade path also. You wont have that if you build AM4 with the 5800x3d. The x3d chips are also a lot easier to cool than the intel chips so that keeps the build cost down

Not to mention, the performance difference between both cards isnt huge, and definitely not worth the extra 300$.

  • @PCBuilderChannel

Given that large a price gap, the 6800 XT used (as long as it is in good condition) seems like a great value as the cards perform similarly with the only real difference being AV1 encoding on the 7800 XT but that isn't worth the price difference!

I already have a 2x16 GB 7200 MT/s RAM and a ryzen 7 7800x3d. What motherboard should I buy? or better, which values should I look after when choosing which one to buy? The memory clock of the MB should be 7200 or more (for the RAM) or 5200 Mhz (for the CPU)? Is there anything else I am not aware that I should check as well? Thanks anyone that will help

Love your channel! I have a question about a cpu/gpu combo I’m looking at for a build in my Amazon cart. I’m currently looking at a 7600x ($220) paired with a 7800xt ($500) which has a 0.0% on the bottleneck calculator. However, I recently found a 4070 for only $30 more ($530), but that has a 4.5% bottleneck when paired with the 7600x. So I was looking at a 7700x/4070 combo. I found the 7700x for $290 new and $230 used. So my question is which combo should I go for? Is the 7700x/4070 combo worth the $40-$100 price increase?

i5-4460 + R9 280 + 500W PSU. I've never done anything related to overclocking. Everything worked normally for 6 years out of the box. R9 280 broke 2 years ago, bought a used RX 5700 XT half a year ago. In some games everything worked normally, in some games my whole computer restarted. I found out that power supply is too weak for the RX 5700 XT. In Adrenaline, I reduced the power consumption of the graphics card to 50% using the slider, and that solved the problem. Two months ago I bought a used 1200W PSU and reset the graphics card settings to default. Everything works normally. I want to say that you can solve the problem of a weak PSU if you reduce the power consumption in Adrenalin, if your PSU is strong enough for that reduced power consumption. Of course, in this way you will reduce the performance of the graphics card.

I pulled the trigger on the 7900xtx nitro+ when the price was as low as 1086€. To behonest, I would have bought it, even if it was at the same price as the 4080 super, cause 16 gigs of VRAM on a 1200€+ card is a bit low and will get in trouble in 4k in probably 2-3 years already. RT sucks up waaaay too much performance for minimal visual changes in a handful of games and Nvidias new power connector is a massive design failure and not worth the stress and danger atm. For me personally the 4080 doesnt provide much value with all those flaws, whereas I have a peace of mind in every aspect with the 7900xtx (for gaming). Undervolted it so it pulls 280W on full load while never ever getting hotter than 50C° in my fractal torrent case. Feels like an amazing deal tbh, so I dont think AMD has a reason to cut prices.

What I'd recommend depends on your budget and yes I would say AMD GPUs are better if you don't care about Ray Tracing.

my current build is 2700x and a 2070. the 2070 has ray tracing and honestly i couldnt tell you if i even notice a difference. my issue is i am now down to about 150 fps in cs2 (which can sounds like a lot for gaming but better fps really helps in that game) but newer builds are something like 500+. @@kelley09162

@@jeffserbin8216 so since you're already on AM4 you could go with a 5700X3D or 5800X3D if you don't want to upgrade your Motherboard and RAM. The 7800X3D is a great CPU though.

@@kelley09162 that was actually my plan, just upgrade to the 5800x3d and probably get a 50% boost. However, i am having issues updating my bios. ive tried all the forums and cannot figure out why my bios wont update. if i can figure it out then ill definitely do that to get another couple years from this build. but if i need to get a new motherboard i might as well spend another $100 - $200 to get on AM5.

I don’t recommend the 4070ti, terrible price to performance. Check out our latest Best CPU/GPU Combo 2024 video, I think that will help you out

They had a Sapphire Pulse 7900xt on Amazon for $530 for a couple of days. IT's back up to 700ish now but damn what a steal. The xtx was in the 700s too. Too late now, but keep your eyes open if you're in the market for a GPU.

It is a good time, just note Ryzen 9000 will come out sometime this year and later in the year Intel 15th will come out and that will be a new socket.

Yes! Prices are going up on several components and there are no big launches coming anytime soon. I would build asap

Same in the US, it's approaching a much more competitive price and I'd love to see it under $500 soon.

Problem is 5XXX series gonna use 3NM or 3+ (withc is tweaked 3nm) witch cost wayyyyyyyyyyy more per wafer than 4+nm so i think prices are gonna stay the same. There's only one foundry that can do that and it's TSMC, so they have no competiton really, there Samsung, but their power envelop is way less interesting than TSMC (we saw that with 3XXX series vs 4XXX)

Their margins are quite insane for what they charge the board partners for the GPU die. And they've already used the trick of pushing up weaker dies into higher model tiers (e.g. 4060 should be 4050), and they could easily revert that.

Get the 7900 XTX down to around $850-900 and I would think a lot of people would be all over it!
