Nutrition Basics - Micronutrients and Macronutrients

Nutrition Basics - Micronutrients and Macronutrients
Schedule a FREE Consult: www.justinhealt...
In this video, Dr. Justin Marchegiani discussed the basics of nutrition. Learn about what macronutrients and micronutrients are in order to figure out the best diet for you. Customizing your diet should always be based on your needs, goals, and desires. Still, your diet should fulfill these three criteria: nutrient dense, low toxin, and anti-inflammatory. The foundation of nutrition basics includes learning about micro and macro-nutrients. In today's age of processed food, it is possible to eat a lot of calories with very poor micro-nutrients. This video will break down the essentials of micro-nutrients and macro-nutrients and how you can use them to help customize your diet.

This video is designed to help the general public understand macronutrients and micronutrients in its most basic form. However, starting the video you immediately start discussing really specific details about macronutrients that an individual just starting out wouldn’t necessarily understand. Since your video is titled Nutrition Basics, one might think this video would give them just the information they need to know to understand the main concepts. However, this is a very informative video for someone who is interested in the deeper understanding. Also this video does a good job about discussing the macronutrient’s subcomponents, which are very important for any audience to know.

What is really important to remember here is to do what works for you, specifically you! All health and nutrition information consist of broad spectrum generalizations, that resulted from observing millions of people. But people are not generic. As individuals we all have a unique biologic makeup that will react differently to what we eat in what portions. Remember, before making ANY major dietary changes. consult a physician, they are familiar with your body and far more familiar with what nutritional balance is optimum for you.

Ask your Physician how many hours of nutrition training they had in med school. These are the same physicians instructing t2 diabetics to eat X amount of carbs per meal and a snack and then pushing more drugs on them when their blood sugar levels are high.

What are your thoughts on how Dr. Calldwel Esselstyn suggests that people should be eating a completely plant based diet to avoid cardiovascular disease. He's had people follow his protocol and avoided going under the knife which never really works unless its a dire emergency. I'd love to hear your feedback as I keep hearing mixed messages regarding this subject! Loving your podcasts.

  • @TheLuconic

Diana Garcia this is a first that peeps say vegans are unhealthy. That simply isn't true but isn't a way one should dedicate to. We are omnivores and we need things that meat provide as well that we need what veggies and fruit provide. But there are some people who can't tolerate meat like my cousin who dislikes the feeling and taste of meat in general. But people should t say vegan is best when a person who eats lots of meat is much stronger but of course is fatter. We need a balance which is why the food pyramid exists. People always over do everything and claim one is better than the other and refuse to see balance.

I am 6'6" 210 lbs and workout 5 days a week. Strength training and running. I run now only about 15 miles a week since marathon season is over. I macronutrient calculator is sizing me up at 5460 calories (then converting that into grams) a day to stay the same weight. "Nobody ain't got no time for that). Does this sound right?

i have a question. i recently read an article (jn.nutrition.org/content/127/10/2000.full) about gorilla nutrition which says that they supposedly derive 57.3% percent of their energy intake from short chain fatty acids (SCFA) which they get from gut bacteria by breaking down fiber. my question is now whether or not the same mechanism is present in humans. if yes, why aren't fibers also considered a macronutritient?

  • @billytowney1303

    @billytowney1303

    7 жыл бұрын

We don't have the gut bacteria required to break down cellulose like most herbivorous species. A gorilla also has a longer, larger intestinal system, which can host more gut bacteria and gives plant matter a longer path over which it can be digested. The arguments vegans use regarding how healthy and strong plant eating animals are is really quite ridiculous when used in comparison to us, they might as well say sprinters shouldn't wear shoes, look at the cheetah.

Organic is becoming more accessible. The USA requires 70 % of ingredients in the product to be organic. The other 30% with an honorable manufacturer must be quality ingredients. Otherwise products will have the potential to be Organic but toxic.

Anyone that talks about proteins as an essential nutrient are still parroting the old BS. Humans don't need protein! We need amino acids and then make the required proteins from the AAs. The best form of AAs for humans is from enzymes from fruits and veggies. The larger the protein chain the harder to digest. This guy is clueless. He says animal proteins are the best? He is using the disproved term "complete proteins"? Animal proteins are the worst to digest and destroy your liver and kidneys. Carbohydrates is not the correct term either. They are technically called starches. I would search elsewhere for your nutritional information.

  • @stephenhouwen6569

Umm, no the term is not "Starches." Carbohydrates include sugars on one end and cellulose on the other. Simple vs complex. And proteins are made of Amino acids. How about you look at the terms "monomer" and "polymer." And please show me peer reviewed research that indicates that reasonable consumption of proteins damages liver and kidneys? Finally (not really, but there is no time to discuss all of your bias here) long chain proteins are easily broken down by the enzymes that we have in our system. That's what they are there for. There are reasons to be vegan, but you have posed NONE of those here. YOU should search elsewhere for your nutritional information. Science over blogs buddy. (I have a Masters in Physiology btw)

    1) humans need amino acids.... which are contained almost exclusively in protein so humans need protein in correct. enzymes are proteins 2) The difficulty of digestion of animal protein means it will provide a low level of energy over a long period of time which is ideal for avoiding insulin spikes. so small amounts of meat is a potentially good source of protein 3) Complete protein refers to a complete amino acid profile, as in it contains all the amino acids that a human needs. as you educated us previously humans need amino acids. 4) starches are constructed from carbohydrates, so it's the same issue as before you've confused the brick for the wall Your criticisms are circular and nonsensical. Im not even saying this guy is right, im just saying your criticisms make no sense if you understand even early highschool chemistry/biology
