My grandmother used something very similar to make her kraut every year. It was a big old metal slicer/shredder that was old when I was born in 1952. She used to make up about 50 gallons of kraut every year using that old machine. It was also used when she made slaw. She would run hundreds of heads of cabbage through it every year.

I have a similar one that was my nan's. It is a 50s one it's not as fancy but still works a dream

Omg you need a presto salad shooter! Maybe not for your show but it’s seriously the best thing since sliced bread! No crank, plugs in-does all the work for you, nothing ever gets stuck I love mine soooo much! If you ever shred your own cheese it’s a must have. We don’t even buy bags of shredded cheese ever anymore because it’s so fast and easy. For $30 on Amazon I think it’s the best gadget I’ve ever bought

I would recommend the salad shooter. Got it from my grandparents but it plugs in and does it without you wasting energy. I think they still sell them and I love it.

We love it !! We use it while camping ! And great for shredding zucchini for bread.

It's a hand cranked Salad Shooter! My Mom would start every year when the salad shooter commercials would play for the Christmas season. She's always tell us she didn't want one. I finally told her I was going to buy her one just to shut her up. Funny thing is, she bought me one for my soaping hobby and it worked like a charm.

The first time I saw this item in the commercial it reminds me if a old cheese grater in the 90s just with a suction cup.

I bought something very similar from eBay, but it was green. I was using a knuckle buster, until I got carpal tunnel. There's a bit of a learning curve to it, but it works. Each thing I've sliced or shredded requires a different amount of pressure. I paid $15 for mine & it was worth it.

I just got a similar product and I LOVE LOVE LOVE it over a box shredder. I use for cheese and making homemade hash browns mostly lol. I'm making hash browns all the time bc of this lol. My blades come apart and is 2 pieces that click into the rotary wheel so it's even easier to vlean and has like 6 different blade options.

’allo, Vivian...Long-time viewer, first time commenter. I specifically went looking for reviews and better video after seeing the A.S.o.TV commercials. This one was of particular interest to me. I have and still use a vintage (as in, well over 60 years old) SaladMaster slicer the basic design upon which this unit is based. Mom got it early in her marriage, and used it ALL the time as we were growing up. It came with ***five*** different barrel/cone slicers. I don't know what alloy the steel is, but those blades are completely rust free and as wickedly sharp now as they ever were. The base is in sad shape (3 suction cup feet no longer work well; the melamine handle has dried out and cracked-some pieces broken off and missing). BUT!!! That thing STILL makes short work of all kinds of slicing needs. I came looking to see if this base would allow me to use my old slicing barrels. Alas, the coupling to the handle/crank mechanism isn't the same. I really should buy a new (used) one from ebay, or whatever...JUST for the base. But I can attest-as long as they don't skimp on the blades’ alloy and initial sharpening, these things ***can*** work well...but personally, I wouldn't get a cheap plastic one...I'd go find an original, metal-based SaladMaster similar to the one seen at the link below. Hey Vivian, I know you have a very extensive light collection I just bought the ASOT Atomic Beam Flashlight. I thought to myself "Its just a flashlight" but by me not having a physical flashlight and if the power goes out, imma need me a bright ol' flashlight, so I bought one and I think you'd like it. I even ordered the rechargeable battery & charger for it. Also if you see the battery powered lights that look like light switches, those are cool too. They're SOO freakin cute, I have like 5 of them lol.

Hello from Maine! I think the machine would work best if the veggies are placed in a certain way, like against the grain rather than with it. Like when you put the smaller piece of cabbage in, you had it standing in a way that the blades could cut across the grain so to speak. But I SO agree that an electric device is much, much better! I have a gadget that attaches to the front of my Kitchen Aide mixer that grinds meat up very well, I bet they make a shredder too. I'll have to look. Plus all their stuff is VERY well made. Thanks girl for all your videos, LOVE THEM!
