PACU is the country club of nursing units😅 That’s where I work. One of the nurses I work with used to work in the ED, and when they made the move to PACU, their ED friends said, “I didn’t know you retired.”😅

Does PACU really hire new grads? In my area, it seems most places require at least a couple years of ICU experience to get into the PACU.

Kind of...unless you end up with post op unstable patient... very scary and stressful... anesthesia has severe outcomes...better know ABC.... trust me....

No NICU? 😂. It’s the best decision I’ve ever made. Been at it for ten years now and I love love love it. My coworkers have been pushing me to be an NNP but I’m still thinking about it. Preemie power!!!

I worked L&D for 5 years prior to specializing in ICU. Let me tell you, L&D is super stressful. I find ICU and ER (I have done both) to be less stressful than L&D. Unlike the ER and ICU, L&D nurses do not have a doctor readily available (OBGYN). Yes anesthesia is always there but without the OBGYN you are on your own managing the situatiin until the doctor arrives. There are a lot of emergencies that can take place...like abruptions, cord prolapse, etc...You also work in the OR and PACU. Believe me, they deserve that pay.

How is there no dr there? I did a clinical rotation in LD and there were always doctors there. It was by far the lightest rotation we did the entire time. Some days there weren't any laboring mother's and the nurses just read their kindles. Even slower than that was NICU. I'm in a large city too, not some rural area. On the other hand, because it's a big city there are tons of hospitals so I guess it's possible that there is just enough space to go around. That said I'm pretty sure I don't want to do LD because while the good days are good, the sad days are sadddd.

Thank you so much for your videos and content bud. I'm finishing my first year of the RPN program here in Canada and plan on becoming an RN eventually so it's nice to see these videos to get thinking about options eventually. I love how diverse the field is and how easy it is to transfer to a different unit. Thanks again!

Awesome video!! Another difference I barely noticed as a new grad is that only the ER has mid shifts! I thought that was awesome since I thought it was always 7pm-7am and vice versa! other units may have those shifts also, but where I live I’ve only heard that for ER!

Lmao on your description of OR nurse; you should def check it out more for future videos! I'm a surgical tech, thinking of nursing school. I love my nurses 💓 it's a unique field. But NOT boring!! Everyday and every case is different, eventhough you still have your standard of care. Great video, thanks!

I went to an OB clinic because of the M-F schedule but I hate it. It’s sooooo boring & I feel like I’m wasting my education. I worked in the hospital for 3 years as a float pool tech but as a RN idk what floor to go to but I know I gotta get out of the clinic ASAP!

Will you please talk a little about wound care nursing. I'm in my last months of clinicals and I am so interested, but there is very little information out there about it. What type of people do you think will be happy in this specialty? I love everything really and I'm having a hard time choosing. I love Psych, ICU, CPU, and ER! I don't know where to start! Lol!

Specialize too. CVICU is probably the best for Crna school. Like 90% of your patients require invasive hemodynamic monitoring and pressors or htn management with clevidipine drips. All qualities Crna schools look for.
