Hi Tammy, if fat functions as the main source of fuel for the body and carbohydrates is the primary source of energy for muscles and organ function, is that why people who are sedentary get fat because they’re not using as much fuel since they don’t exert as much energy? How does this relate to people who are in a low-carb diet? So they have more fuel but less energy? I’m confused.

@@nursinggrad421 Great question. This is part of the problem. The other part is that excess/ simple carbohydrates get stored immediately by the liver as fat, also adding to the issue of excess fat. Low carb diets cause the body to produce less insulin because the body doesn't need as much insulin to take care of the carbohydrates. Decreased insulin production and needs causes the body to burn stored fat for energy in place of carbs. This is what often causes weight loss with low carb diets. Basically, the body is converting its fuel (fats) to energy (which previously came in the form of carbs)

Thanks for the video! Like many others here, I too am taking a fundamentals exam. My clinicals at the hospital start this week and I want to know everything I can to provide the best patient care. I'll be in the post-op wing where constipation from narcotics and immobility is high.

Hello Ms. Davis. I heard that drinking two tbsp of apple cider vinegar with water in the morning is good for the gut. What are your thoughts on the effect of ACV in our GI tract? Thanks
