So kind of you to share this, the Green Hell is on my bucket list as car driver. This was very useful knowledge, much like in my younger days "driving" the ring in race sims, but with "where the heck you get the ticket" and other real world details. Now perhaps I have to try a bike as well during the theoretical vacation. I always remind myself of Lauda's crash, one must remain sensible.

I did some laps of the 'Ring back in April 2010. I was on a long 7800 km tour across Europe from Finland to Spain and back and found myself there a bit unexpectedly as I hadn't planned a visit. The ticket buying was a bit different, but access to the track and the general rules of behavior was the same. My fully laden Hayabusa with touring tires and rear box and me in flappy textiles (with full protectors) wasn't maybe the optimal combo, but the experience still was the best thing I've ever done with clothes on. In one long and fast downhill most sounds disappeared as I had lost altitude in such a short time that my ears kind of locked. First I didn't know what happened but on the following laps it happened again and then I figured it out (I have slightly troublesome ears). No amount of trying to learn even the most famous parts of the track on a console or game can simulate that🙂. I also learned that while I could accelerate out of a corner as fast as a lambo, the same car came into the corner at least three times as fast as me, so I kept to the right and held a constant eye on the mirrors as well. Thanks for bringing back memories, great video!

Nice! I once did a lap with girlfriend and kids in my 85hp Alfa Romeo. Track had been closed for hours, so my first lap ever was brimming with supercars eager to get on after a few hours delay. Got overtaken every 5 seconds, my right indicator was on full-time, after 5 minutes I started to smell my brakes. Saying it was intense was an understatement. But it was cool! I don't think I'll try it on my bike however. Too many cars that don't seem to get a motorcycle takes very different lines, oil spills, etc. I'm not gonna risk my bike there. But it's absolutely an experience to lap the track if you can! Nice of you to point out a few details I wasn't aware of last time :-)

Great vid Dale. The best (definitely) "how to" Nordschleife video out there (possibly the only, but doesn't detract from the point! ;) :) :D ). I guess there are a lot more things you need to know about Touristenfahrt before going on the first time than we remember, because many of us, our first time is shrouded back in the long far distant past, so you listing them all out was a great idea!! ;) (plus they have changed a lot of things over time). Nice to see on a moving video, the new Fuchsröhre resufacing - looks lush! :D (in a car, could you still take the left curb on the uphill left kink, before Adenau Forst starts proper?)

Good job, Dale. I've been amazed at the number of people (bikes and cars) that arrive for their first lap of the 'Ring without the first clue of the laws, rules and driving etiquette for touristenfahrten. I did my first laps in the quiet days before Top Gear, and even then it was a pretty formidable experience for a newbie. Since Top Gear it has became more and more chaotic. That was ok to a point, as I was gaining in experience and pace, so it felt less dangerous, but the idea of starting from zero in today's conditions is really scary. That could have something to do with my advancing years, of course!

If it hurt for me, on my knobbies, on a 660cc trailie, imagine being the M2 driver 🤣 but that's the Nürburgring. Knowledge is greater than power

@@btgmoto Super! I LOVE that about the place... I once overtook a Ferrari 355 at Flugplatz in my Mk2 Golf, and a Subaru Impreza and EVO6 in the wet, on the same lap, in a Megane 1.6 hire car :D :D I also got roasted on my first trip in an Audi TT (hire car) by a local in some shitty Opel Belmont Estate on it's door handles.. (or similar....) ;) :) :D :D - THAT inspired me to learn the track!!! :D :D

Slightly off topic question, how do you find that Halo Jacket?

Love it to bits. Great in Summer, and I even used it all winter by wearing a proper base layer (Brynje of Norway!) and using the supplied waterproof over-jacket as a windbreaker. Last year we did Slovenia to Nurburgring in one day, via snow, ice and nearly 40-celsius! Was a crazy long day, but the jacket did it all.

Good video Dale, Makes it appear approachable on a bike but your definitely right about chaos on a weekend now.
