    I bought both. My main use for a mechanical keyboard is to type on it for hours on end. For that, the Lofree Flow wins for me. The typing feel and sound, no clackiness, sleek sexy aluminum case all around, slimmer, and gasket mount feel. I don't need key customizations, I actually like how the backlight partially shines through, and bluetooth has worked well for me despite my preference for 2.4ghz wireless. My Nuphy Air75 v2 went back in its box.

    I think the low profile keyboard comparisons are few and far between, so I really appreciate your videos! I ordered the Lofree Flow linear a few months ago during the WhatGeek sale, but it still hasn't shipped yet. I assume it's because I also ordered the 8BitDo keyboard, which is taking longer to ship. At any rate, I am still interested in maybe purchasing the Air V2, as I was not interested in the first version. The Lofree Flow looks, sounds, and feels nicer without a doubt, but without VIA and switch swapping compatibility it’s a nonstarter. I could overlook the lack of VIA in this layout, but the switch support is a hard dealbreaker. Kailh and Lofree really guaranteed I wouldn’t consider their product by intentionally designing their switch pins to be incompatible with other low profile switches. For the same reason I won’t consider a keyboard with Outemu hot swap sockets or Keychron optical switches, etc. I won’t consider the Flow. Being locked in artificially to a certain brand’s switches (rather than being able to choose the best ones for me on their own merit) is pretty antithetical to what I enjoy about mechanical keyboards in the first place.

    All Kail switches are suitable for LoFree. And these are 3 for their special keycaps (keycaps will need to be replaced) and 3 new formats already available on the market. Plus, these two are special for LoFree and if you look there are also pink and some other limited versions. Therefore, it is possible that Kail switches, on the contrary, have the largest differnt types. Another thing is that they all have single-stage springs. I have no idea what the difference is between them))))

    This comparison is one of the most helpful I've seen! I'm considering both of these right now but mainly informing purchase on finger pain where impact of tactile feeling or kinda solid feeling keyboards, as well as heavy switches... So I'm unsure about the heavier actuation force of the switches on the Lofree compared to Nuphy's linears but at the same time the Air75 not having any flex seems like it may be an issue too 😅 Loving seeing the new innovation in this space though!

    Is linear > tactile for these low profile mech. keyboards? I love my Cherry MX blue switches in a "normal travel" keyboard (like my Varmilo MIYA Pro), but perhaps for low profile you get the same sense/punch with linear? or is the difference the same (for low profile vs. "normal travel")? thank youuuu

  • @semiprotech

    @semiprotech

    6 ай бұрын

    Great question, I have noticed that with the shorter travel of low profile switches it is easier to bottom-out linear switches, so I'm getting that feeling as the feedback vs. really needing the bump midway through the press. As a result, I tend to have fewer errors while typing on linear low profile switches compared to high profile linear switches. I prefer linears for the smooth feel, but tactile & clicky low profile switches still offer significantly more feedback so if typing accuracy is one of your main priorities, you'll likely still get better results with a tactile or blue low profile switch.

  • @vwmusicplaylist1935
    @vwmusicplaylist19357 ай бұрын

    Interesting and timely video as I recently bought the Lofree and am also considering the Nuphy v2! Here's my take on the Lofree Flow. PROS: 1. Nice typing action - definitely different and more 'plush' sounding compared to every other low profile keyboard I've tried. Keys sound like proper lubed switches. No hint of rattliness, which is great. 2. Adding 'O' rings (40A hardness/1.5mm thickness) to the keycap stems significantly reduces the noise on each keystroke - useful if you work in a share office, at night, or simply prefer quieter keystrokes. 3. A sound dampening mat underneath the keyboard also reduces the noise/resonance through the aluminium case/desk - you can even use the including foam pad supplied in the box. 4. Compatible with many other keycaps. The Nuphy ABS 'shine through' keycaps actually work with the Lofree and vastly improves the backlighting due to the shine through key legends. XVX low profile keycaps also work and they come in different varieties and colors including PBT and shine through etc. 5. Well built and feels like a quality product. 6. Power management, wake from sleep, bluetooth connectivity etc is good and with no issues (I've been using this keyboard for the last couple of months using bluetooth to switch from desktop to 2 other work laptops on a daily basis). CONS: 1. The Phantom tactile switches produce a very definite key action (you know exactly when you've hit the key correctly which touch typists may like). Personally, I feel that the actuation is a bit 'heavy' with slightly more resistance than I would like and I don't love the feel of the keys when they bottom out and strike the backplate as its doesn't feel that cushioned to me (though I'm probably used to laptop membrane/scissor switch keyboards). Phantom tacticle advertised at around 50gf but I wish they were slightly lighter eg. 40gf or 45gf actuation. I think I would prefer the Ghost linear switches over the Phantom tactile switches. Make sure you order a set of each switches if you're unsure! 2. There is NO Fn-Lock on this keyboard. In other words you cannot change the default function key action only using the keyboard. My keyboard has F-Keys as default. This drives me nuts as I want media keys enabled by default. Some other users have reported that they have media keys enabled by default which is odd. The comments from Lofree on this issue on Reddit makes absolutely no sense. They simply have not enabled any sort of FN-Lock or switching on this keyboard at all. 3. The backlighting is useless but this can be cured by getting some shine through key caps (see above). Shine through keycaps make a HUGE difference to the legibility of the keys in darkness. 4. No QMK/VIA key mapping option. You can use Windows Powertoys and the keyboard remapping function within that but this only works to some extent as you cannot replicate certain keystroke combinations. Remapping single keys is easy enough though eg. mapping F3 to say CTRL + . (period) for an emoji popup or some other CTRL+SHIFT+KEY type function. However, you cannot map say FN+Volume Up to F12 for example. 5. Only 2 switch options. As mentioned above, personally I'd like to see a lighter linear switch option. OVERALL If the Lofree could be combined with the Nuphy, ie Lofree POM/gasket/dampening etc, with Nuphy's wider range of options, you'd have the perfect keyboard! At the moment, both are good, but neither are perfect....

    I have both of these keyboards - Lofree with the linear switches and the Nuphy with the Aloe and Cowberry. Both keyboards have the frustrations - the Lofree because of its lack of features and the Nuphy because of how rattly and hollow the switches/keyboard sounds. I'm half way through a project of taking apart the Nuphy to lube the switches and stabs with some krytox and add some pebax or similar into the case.

    No way, perhaps quality control failed on your keyboard? I learned that the first step of the foldable feet is not very tight, if you place V2 with the first step plucked out on your desk, the feet may easily move back into its case if you push it forward, that may be a problem😳

    I recently got the Air 75 v2. I've only used cheap membrane in the past, and was getting frustrated by how sluggish it felt, as someone who dabbles in rhythm games. I wanted a smaller mechanical keyboard I could put over my laptop keyboard and also set on my desk, and the Air 75 fit that perfectly while having way more customizations and features than I expected. I don't really care about how the switches feel right now since I'm coming from membrane, but I don't like the sound of clicky keys and I heard Cherry reds were good for rhythm games, so I went with their Gateron red option. Since getting my Air 75 v2, it has completely blown away my expectations, and I'm very easily beating my old scores with it. It feels like a whole new league compared to membrane, and it's even replaced the Bluetooth keyboard I use with my tablet. I just wish Nuphy sold seperate low-profile numberpads. I chose the 75% for portability and space, but I miss touch typing the calculator with the numberpad.

    I'm using the Lofree Flow. The battery will be a problem if you guys want to bring it outside a lot. I'm fine with it cause it sits still on my desk. The real sound is not like in most of the videos, it's not that thock, can't blame cause it's a low-profile anyway. I'm getting used to it cause before that I used a very creamy high-profile mechanical keyboard. I change to this one because it hurts my wrist and I'm tired of using the wrist rest.

    are linear switches not pleasurable in terms of typing experience? I always hear people talk about mistakes but darn the sound of those cowberry switches sound so much better than the tactile moss

  • @semiprotech

    I personally love typing on linear switches. I generally do find the likelihood of typing errors increases from Clicky to Tactile to Linear. I personally could not stand the sound of clicky switches all day long, but there's no doubting when you've registered each key press. Tactile has a big range of mild to sharp feedback - the new moss switches offer much more feedback than typical brown switches. I still type accurately on tactile but sometimes just want the smooth feel of linears. I do make a few errors here and there with linears because I'll try to go too fast and won't fully press down a key once in a while, but it's not like a huge ratio of errors. The amount of switch travel also makes a difference - with shorter travel linear switches including low profile, they will bottom out relatively quickly so that helps reduce errors. I've noticed I make a few more errors on high profile linear switches with a traditional 4.0mm travel, and slightly fewer errors on low profile linear switches which have 3.0 to 3.4mm of travel.

    just bought white nuphy air75 v2. I specifically bought it to replace my previous linear normal profile keyboard, which sounds to my liking - but introduces typing error due to minimal linear resistance - when I'm just chilling and not thinking when typing, I would have aaa, ss, just extra unwanted characters due to the nature of linear switches. now I chose tactile moss switch, and it is as I hoped it would be, just perfection for me. it literally boosted my wpm by 10-20. I rarely have typing error, and the sound although not as marbly as my linear kb, it is just perfect, it grows on me. and lastly, I replaced the alphabets, arrows, pgup and pgdn keycaps with xvx seethrough keycaps, and now I can see the legends lighted beautifully.

    Skipped to the conclusion. The Nuphy is the better keyboard especially for gamers with cowberry switches and low latency wireless (everything else is spot on as well for 75% vs the rest of the market other than no shine through PBT keycaps).. with the caveat of requiring re-lubing a thin layer under the switches due to Nuphy being unable to layer it on precise enough leading to key sticking (QC issue). If the Lofree doesn't have that issue then its potentially better out of box (unless there's other flaws not mentioned in your review), but will likely require relubing in its lifetime if it has lube under the switches as well. Well worth the potential the to re-lube the Air75 V2 especially since its cheaper.. not much a comparison here man.
