That solo is so technically, and melodically well written ... everyone knows who Eddie Van Halen is and Jimmy Page, and Hendrix and May and so on, but Nuno Bettencourt is so under rated

Brian May is a class act - he could not have been more gracious in his praise. Having a rock legend tell the world that is some of the best shit he has ever heard, don't get much better than that.

If a guitarist on the level of Brian May praises your playing, then you've achieved something that very few other players do. I don't think I have to elaborate on Brian's abilities...the odds are that anyone who posts here is already quite familiar with them. I'll just say that when it comes to the combination of tasteful licks and amazing tone, Brian May is easily IMHO in the top 5 guitarists in all of rock. He's obviously open to different styles, as this is not in the style of anything Queen ever did, as diverse as they were - but he appreciates the art and remains grounded and humble. Thanks for all you've given us, Brian and Nuno.

He didn't say it was the _best solo he's ever heard_ - he basically said it was an excellent solo which he really likes and that it is all a guitar solo should be - composed and structured but still giving an impression of spontaneity. All complementary but not saying anything like _the best solo he's ever heard_ though I can understand why a fan might want to quote it as such. Just futilely battling the proliferation of internet myths here, don't mind me.

Nuno Bettencourt has quite a few videos with some completely badd azz guitar playing....Sort of simulates EVH....Who is a legend in himself, and is frequently reproduced, by Nuno and many others, after much practice.....

This is BY FAR my favorite guitar video. Nuno, high on goofballs, doing a instruction vid, still plays 1000% better than I could if I had total consciousness from the Dali Lama, AND lessons from Joe Satriani.

True that Brian May acknowledged this solo as a one that should get a medal... it fires in and explodes it has so many cool parts... well constructed and played.

The greatest guitar solo ever…..doesn’t matter how slow you show us Nuno, unless you cut your hands off and give them to me, I will never in a million years get near this…

One of the most underrated players out there. Total monster.

It’s Nuno man. Extreme the band however is highly underrated. Definitely should’ve had even more success imo.

Pure genius...one of the best solo's out there and it fits the song perfectly.

One of my absolute heros... I don't know too many other players who can combine rhythm and lead guitar in a such effektive way. And his quite "dry" AMP setting prooves how soundy and dynamic bis play is... GREAT!

The best and humble underrated guitarist thanks nuno for sharing your music, greetings from philippines...

His playing is bluesy funky and very stylish...Love it...so does brian may apparently

I have never seen a guitarist with the most beautiful right and left hands movement in my life! So flowing and makes it look so easy

Not only a brilliant guitarist but an all round excellent musician and producer.

Got to say, I've ignored this song cause I thought it flew under my radar and it was another one of those "Glam Rock." But one night, I heard this song on the radio and just let it play instead of changing the station... I was blown away by the solo... The intense approach in the beginning, followed by the arpeggio tapping, then goes right through bluesy bends, then to chromatic play, then to just going to as high as you can on the strings... 10 out of 10!

What's striking, especially in this lower-volume context, is how 100% confident, full-force, and rhythmic his playing is, even when playing single-note lines e.g. 2:35

I am always amazed at people who be so baked and still function almost perfectly lol!!

Depends on the drugs and dosages. Nuno seems to be under opioids here, you can function perfectly on heroin/morphine, with the right dosage even better than sober actually. Also when you're used to it there are no issues really.

This guy is an absolute monster guitarist. All funk and soul. Unlike a lot of the big names from his generation he plays from the heart, not the head.

Also love his technique. It's like he feeds his pick to the string.

I like how he takes simple notes and makes so much out of it by how he mutes and attacks the strings. Great crunchy funk style.

Nuno is the master composer gone through a fine tooth comb, his brilliance is so extraordinary great executionist 🎸the new Eddie 🎸

I went for the hair, when I had sorta got there Male Pattern Baldness set in and I blame that singularly for my awful guitar playing.

You're mistaken. One can play it. The first step is mastering the art of time-dilation. After that, one needs to work on their pick-teleportation as he does at 4:09. It's not hard.

@@iamenobius2339 Nobody ever plays it like Nuno, maybe close, but not the same, and I'm not even talking about the solo. There's so many videos on here of people butchering that main riff lol, none of them get that groove. It's a lot like Eddie playing I'm The One, no one gets that swing going like Eddie.

The song is catchy, but the solo is out of this world, crazy..

I often wonder that for pure technique and iconic playing no one comes bear Nuno. His tone and approach to guitar playing is so unique.

I play in a classic rock band. We were finishing rehearsal today and they band suggested we do this song. I suggested they show me how to play it on guitar and it should be no problem. Should have it finished some time in 2030.

He is one of my favorite guitarists because of this solo, which is one of my favorites.

You just get the feeling that Mr Bettencourt is just the nicest guy you could ever meet.. He just gives off this really cool vibe.. obviously his insane guitar skills are on another level.. That pull off is perfection in motion 👏👏👏

I watched him live recently, and an audience member had the audacity to say his E was flat. Nuno tested it, told the guy he was fucking wrong, but he appreciated that the audience member was looking out for him. Genuinely such a chill and nice dude.

An incredibly talent musician and all around nice guy.

In the 90's I was a student so saw nearly every band live then as tickets were cheap and I had lots of time on my hands. They played this club in a five part of town for shootings and punk shows. It was not a band of which I knew much but those solos were blistering They were not punk but you can't follow every band so often used to turn up and hope for the best. Those were the best nights as no KZread for previews so the first time we heard the bands were when they struck the opening chord. I remember seeing Rancid on one of those nights so it really was a free for all.

Such an underrated guitarist.

Nuno will always be an admired guitar player.. always!

Nuno is one of the most diversed player too. I have always liked tapping part it is melodic not just fast. And that is key when play fast.

I think it was the year this song came out. I bought a mag with the tabs for this song and got about half way through the lead.. I was reading the interview with Nuno, in that same mag, and he said something about NOT learning other people songs "note for note" because it was better to give it your own flavor. So I quit learning Get the Funk Out and other songs "note for note" (because I wasn't in a cover band anyway). Now, here he is showing how to play it "note for note". lolol Fuk it, I'm gonna learn it. Brian May and I agree it is possibly the greatest guitar lead ever!

I love Nuno, but that is terrible advice. I hate when I see any musician give it. Music is a language. We learn to speak through imitation, and emulation, of our parents and idols. All of the great musicians copied their heroes. There is absolutely nothing wrong with it. Any time I meet a player that cannot improvise, it's because they didn't transcribe any solos, or rarely worked on learning new ideas from better players. If you don't do those things, you are relying on aural conditioning, which will generally yield pentatonic flailing, or chromatic and symmetrical nonsense with stiff, unsyncopated, yet strangely derivative muscle memory based patterns. Transcribe! Learn from the greats.

Nuno is the Guitarplayer who had to grow on me..when I was younger I was like..yeah..he is pretty cool...now I am like..damn he`s one of the best ever

I love this solo, I tried to learn this solo years ago and could never do it. By the way - Sept 1991 guitar magazine tablature solo shows at the start of tapping the Bb arpeggio, to be in 3rd position, Nuno doesn't do this.
