In cantilever slab one end is fixed while other is free. At free end there can be excessive deflection since it is not supported. Hence check for deflection in cantilever slab is a very important step.This video explains two methods of reinforcement detailing in the cantilever slab along with a numerical example, with a check for deflection and shear in cantilever slab.

What if reinforcement detail is not given and nothing about to calculate modification factor ,Then how to calculate depth as per deflection criteria. Most of the books like made easy and ies master simply devide overhang length by 10 . Usually we know this value is 7 in case of cantilever beam/slab if span lenth less than 10m , Do you have any explanation about it?

The value 7 is to be multiplied by modification factor of 1.3 to 1.5 to decide depth initially. If you calculate, it will come around 10. So made easy might be using 10 directly. Initially we have to assume modification factor and once you calculate reinforcement you have to check for actual modification factor.

We get overall depth after adding cover to effective depth. Cover is provided to protect reinforcement from environmental effect for serviceability purpose. So for any of strength calculations we take effective depth only.

Either take higher grade of material or increase depth and recheck.

Is this design is through the slab.madam doesn't it shall be reduced providing beam support.actually I m trying for 2.4m cantilever slab.does this shall be helpful for design of beam n slab both
