Nujabes wasn't a sampling master, he wasn't a beat master or a melody artisan: he was above ALL a mood inventor, a mood manipulator. He created atmospheres, areas, spaces of pure nostalgia and golden introspection. I personally don't think I can count more than 10 people that can do this. To me he reached the ultimate goal as a composer.

every verse on here is just poetic and the spirituality and science wordplay, the poker wordplay, the beat, just all of this song is insanely well-done, structured, and captures what loves feel like perfectly.

Have been listening to Nujabes since about 2014. 10 years I listen to the love sic tracks and try to remember all the previous times I've head the songs. "when ever you are" always got me as a fire line as it refers to time rather than a location. I try to remember middle school me stressing about that test, or in highschool stressed about that crush. I'm a recent college grad and now I'm stressing about getting a real career job. Maybe I'll be stressed about marriage, having kids, or some other thing and recall all my previous stresses. Remember who I was at that time and who I am in the present. And maybe the two will connect and it'll be like connecting the past with the present and future. RIP Nujabes the goat, and shout out Shing02 still going strong doing tours of the hexology.
