Nuclear Warning Control Point

After 11 years of searching, I finally got my hands on one of the rarest items for a Cold War collector.
This device would have sounded the famous ‘4 Minute Warning’ if there had ever been a nuclear attack in the UK in the 1980’s.

Brilliant I remember seeing the old version at our local nick during training in the Civil Defence Corps, back in 1964.

Fascinating bit of Cold War history you have there - I read something about this system and am really pleased to find a video of it in operation.

I remember seeing this and other such equipment at the Police HQ in Colwyn Bay when I did work experience there in 1992. I also remember there was an accidental activation of the air raid warning in Colwyn Bay when I was a kid, so it would have been in the late 80's.

Great video & explanation , this Control Point will increase in value over time as it is literally a piece of history. I remember as a kid in the late 1970's the police accidentally set off the sirens in my home town at the time ,Letchworth Hertfordshire. Everyone at their front doors wondering WTF was going on ....USAF radar / intelligence base , then RAF Chicksands , Bedfordshire just 5 miles away as definate target & RAF Henlow around same distance as possible target. The sirens are a chilling sound.

I am pretty sure that my local police CCP is now an exhibit in the Imperial War Museum.

Can I use the audio of your AWR tones as a background track for one of my Cold War book reviews?

Really sorry to hear that. Have customs explained to you why they stopped it? They have to give you a reason if it was UK customs. It has never happened to me.

The dosimeter was detained by customs because it is a military item and export is prohibited by law.

@@SurvivingTheApocalypse would love to see it. I don't think any photo actually exist of one, and certainly no video exists on how one works
