NS, SNCF & EWS Diesels around Eurre, France in 1999 & 2000.
Ойын-сауық
In late 1999 & early 2000 Dutch NS as well as British EWS locos helped out with the construction of the new high speed link near Valence in Southern France.
We travelled down from England twice to film the 37s, but here are some unpublished clips we haven't used.
Watch in the 3rd clip how the train stalls on the immense gradient, despite having five locomotives on it, 2 at the front and 3 at the rear!

THANKS ! Brings back memories. Every day I saw these NS 2400 serie loco's pulling a heavy oiltrain from Schoonebeek to Pernis / Rotterdam to be made into ?? . The high speed diesels made a characteristic sound. Awsome !! Only a very few exist today in Holland in the hands of railway enthousiasts. Sad they are gone. You could see them from the ' 50 till '90's every where trough Holland
Wonderful footage, the sound of these hard working class 2400 loco's comes as close to my memories of the early 70's as possible. I saw them working in multiple sets of 3 and even 4 on heavy coal trains (60 four wheel minerals, 2400 tons) leaving the private sidings of dutch state coal mines in Geleen, the Netherlands, when I was a child. Later, in the 80's when the coal mines were all closed you could hear them shunting in the station yard in Sittard during evening hours.
Interesting! I think this is one of the few real life examples of British and continental European locos working together. Anyone could easily model this on any model railway or train simulator if they have a mixed collection.
Just seems like yesterday - top notch footage
Hi Stephen, The brown loco you see at 9.00 minutes is former NS 2501 ! You can still see the white NS logo on the hood... The 2501 ( SNCF 62501 ) will be scrapped by now. The VSM museum railway owns 2 of them, the national railway museum at Utrecht has 1 exampel in his collection. 3 loco's ( the last ones ? ) are rusting away at Rearen (B) You find pictures of them in the Internet, which gives me always a sad feeling..
The (6/66)2424, featured at 9:16 in this video, has been acquired by the Stoomtrein Goes-Borsele heritage railway in The Netherlands.
Man, they sure piled the power on some of these trains!
Great film
Can you please tell me the title of the music you used at the beginning of this wunderfull footage ? Thanks a lot ! Greetz from Holland, Tjerk

Hi Greetz, sorry for taking so long to reply. The title music was taken from a proprietory CD of film intro music that we purchased around 15 years ago. Sorry I can't be any more specific. Regards Stephen
Did not no they had class 37s in France

Not enough diesel locomotives for works the others were used for freight services so France leased class 37s and some from Netherlands for the LGV construction
Sorry Steve, I mixed you up with someone else... :-(
British locos so much better looking
